Tax Strategies
-
Potential emergency medical costs in the future
-
An emergency fund plan consisting of:
- using any money in my checking/savings accounts
- selling some investments if necessary likely tax/penalty-free and putting that money into my checking account (from my understanding, if I do have to pay the penalty or taxes, I generally do not have to pay them until 6-12 months later which should likely be enough time to get back on my feet)
- help from friends and/or family if necessary and/or using my credit card if necessary
An economical, minimalist, slow FI approach to personal finance (retiring when no longer able to work)
-
A long-term relationship in the future (possibly marriage) (haven’t dated yet, though I’d like a long-term relationship)
-
An unknown SWR (currently 3.5%..maybe more..maybe less) (could change in the future)
-
Self-employment, contracting, freelance, or entrepreneurship (being employed by a business that’s not mine or the government if necessary)
-
Likely not having the same job(s) or business forever due to a rapidly changing job market
-
My age (22 years)
-
A significant decline in real returns of US stocks for the next 10 years.
-
Planning on ideally using a non-profit hospital in the event of an emergency (and possibly asking for financial forgiveness)
-
An HSA (for non-emergency medicine, plastic surgery if ever needed, vaccines, and emergency medicine)
-
Possibly using my parents’ private health insurance for emergencies, plastic surgery if ever needed, and vaccines (planning on paying for the portion of deductible that I use in order to be autonomous) (saving all receipts to possibly decrease tax liability with medical bills)
-
A desire to have holistic care rather than conventional care if it ever came down to it (nursing home, assisted living, etc.)
-
An investment portfolio (which will likely change over time) of…
- FNLIX (S&P 500 index fund with 0% expense ratio) (80% of portfolio) (likely will lower allocation of this and increase allocation of other investments)
- FZLIX (international index fund with 0% expense ratio) (18% of portfolio)
- Alternative Investments (Bitcoin [1.2% of portfolio], Ethereum [.8% of portfolio], Individual Stock[s], NFT[s]?, Sports Card[s]?, Comic Book[s]?, Video Game[s]?)
