Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, made a bold statement during the MENA Bitcoin conference held in Dubai on December 9-10, 2024. In the session titled “CZ VIP Session,” the former Binance CEO claimed that cryptocurrencies will “go to the moon.” This statement comes just days after Bitcoin hit the historic milestone of $100,000, an event that has been dubbed “100k Day.”
During a roughly 30-minute talk, CZ expressed optimism not only about Bitcoin's value, but also about its practical utility. The Chinese-born, US-based entrepreneur emphasized that Bitcoin represents much more than an investment or a store of value: it is the future of money.
How far away is the moon?
According to CZ, Bitcoin’s value as an investment will continue to rise because more and more governments and individuals are accumulating the cryptocurrency, a phenomenon he described as “pure mathematics.” However, he stressed that in the next 5 to 10 years, Bitcoin will have a much greater utility value than people imagine today. To illustrate his vision of Bitcoin’s future, he cited a famous quote from Microsoft founder Bill Gates:
When asked by interviewer David Bailey about the possible value of Bitcoin in the coming years, CZ avoided giving specific figures. However, he did highlight that Bitcoin has the potential to become an asset of unlimited value and reiterated that it will “go to the moon.”
A key figure in the cryptocurrency sector
Changpeng Zhao, who transformed Binance into one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, is one of the most respected voices in the industry. Under his leadership, Binance introduced innovations such as staking and a wide variety of trading pairs, fostering global adoption of cryptocurrencies.
CZ also took the opportunity to reflect on Bitcoin’s role as a global medium of exchange, with the potential to replace gold. He also praised the recent news that the United States could create a strategic Bitcoin reserve. According to him, although countries such as the United Arab Emirates already hold Bitcoin in their reserves, the involvement of a global power like the United States marks an important milestone for the future of cryptocurrencies.
Asked about the possibility of his home country China doing the same, CZ said it was difficult to predict, but acknowledged that the Chinese government could move quickly in this direction if it deemed it strategic.
In addition to CZ, the Bitcoin conference in MENA will feature other prominent names in the sector, including Eric Trump, son of President Donald Trump, who will make a special appearance on Tuesday, December 10. This event reinforces the global interest in cryptocurrencies and their role in transforming the global financial system.
