Merged mining (AuxPow), could this be another solution?!

It seems like everybody just forgot about Merged Mining. To me it looks like another option, to protect the chain. I remember long ago Dogecoin was faced with the same threat (then nobody attacked) and the developers implemented Merged Mining, as a solution to the same threat. (it was only "theoretical threat", but as we see now it could have been real).
