Supposedly, the feds control enough of the Tor Nodes to effectively make Tor useless, proxies and proxy chains are easy to follow back for a state level actor, and VPN/VPS's are risky, since even if they reside in a nation that is not friendly with the nation you reside in, you pay them in washed Bitcoin or privacy coins, and they don't keep logs, it is always possible that the VPN provider could become compromised at any point in time, and then they could record logs, and then you're fucked. I am by no means an expert in any of this, as any of you experts reading can certainly tell.
