Wednesday at 6:30pm, the Edmonton Bitcoin Meetup will be hosting Steve Barbour of Upstream Data coming in from Lloydminster to talk about utilizing flared (i.e otherwise wasted) natural gas for mining. It is a unique situation where consumption of energy can be moved to the source, which allows tapping into sources of energy that aren't connected to the energy grid to provide security for the network:

Steve was also recently on the Stephan Livera podcast, which is a great listen if you are into this kind of topic: https://stephanlivera.com/2018/10/20/slp27-turning-stranded-natural-gas-into-bitcoin-mining-hashes-with-steve-barbour-of-upstream-data/
On Saturday from 9am-5pm, we are also hosting a Bitcoin Hack Day to get people together to build stuff and explore project ideas. A casual, non-competitive event where the goal is to simply get productive on something you are interested in.
