I've really enjoyed this show since the beginning one of my favorites on HBO, great cast, great humor, and jokes about the tech industry. This season to me was a huge let down. Jared leaving the first episode showing his disloyalty to Richard so he can work with Gwart (who's not even a character, she's a plot device) and when Gwart fires Jared, he comes back to Pied Piper like nothing happened, and BTW, the way they got rid of Holden like that was really shitty, it's like killing a character off screen and never mentioning him again.
After all the hard work they put into this company, 6 seasons worth and finally making it work with Russfest where it took all the combination of Richard, Dinesh and Gilfoyle, the very next episode they decide that they shut the whole company down and fail because it'd be funnier than closure. Pied Piper didn't even pave the way for their actual decentralized internet where in they are partly responsible for creating a new internet that everybody uses, their legacy was trashed because the writers turned it into a joke. These characters deserved better and Pied Piper deserved better.
It would've been better if Pied Piper succeeded and their documentary was about how the founders became like PayPal mafia creating funny companies in the valley that make fun of the future tech like Bighead's psychic phone idea, personal jet packs and stuff like that . Russ would be doing his interview as a member in the 4 comma club at Russfest 2030. Gilfoyle would have the largest bitcoin mining farm in the world, Dinesh dressed in a solid gold suit, with supermodels around him. Monica might run for president or something. Richard and Jared would still be at Pied Piper with offices right next to each other.
There was no real closure with Gavin and Richard which was disappointing, arch rivals throught the series and they never share the screen together again . They could've met a charity event , Richard and Gavin having a bidding war to win a date with Senator Kid Rock or something absurd like that.
They had Bill Gates, but didn't use him with the rest of the cast? That would've been great to see them all together, or even a photoshopped picture with them in a room together would've been hilarious. Bill could've mentioned how Pied Piper surpassed Microsoft in value and they donate billions every year to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Also what happened with Laurie? She's in prison but for what? I guess it's funnier that none of us know.
I know that TJ Miller and the producers had problems with each other and knew he wouldn't return for the finale, but they could've brought back his character as a gag, like casting a lookalike as Erlich having plastic surgery after leaving Tibet or when the lady answered the door, it would be Erlich as a woman who had a sex change so he could get ahead as a female because everyone in the valley thought Erlich Bachman was a joke. Running an actual coding camp for women.
In season one they took a picture of picture near the pool to show the beginning of Pied Piper, they never went back to that either...
I also didn't like how they kept dumbing down Bighead throughout the series. The writers mistook lazy and not a genius to a complete moron who failed upwards because it was funnier.
I loved this show and it bugs me because this will definitely effect the re watchability, I know how the series ends now, feeling rushed and unsatisfying just like Game of Thrones.
Just my opinion.
