Reflecting on Gensler's MIT Course

Since Gary Gensler is now the SEC chair and he has that MIT course on blockchains, I figured I'd watch his classes. In 2. Money, Ledgers & Bitcoin starting at about 41:43, he discusses ledgers and general ledgers. I got goosebumps when he says, "... the master ledger, or general ledger, at the Federal Reserve." I feel like I could sense that he knows that the beast needs vanquished. I'm eager to continue onward in the lecture series.

Bitcoin has really pulled me in recently. I've been hip since 2012, but throughout this past year have been many events that have compelled me to finally get off 0. Not just that I've bought in, but my spirit has heard a call to action I have never experienced before.

I've been so animated and inspired, but I'm wandering aimlessly. I want to learn programming so I can build tools and hopefully have a positive impact on our community, but am unsure where to begin. I have considered learning Python and have purchased a course on Udemy, but it feels inadequate. I've been discouraged recently because my progress feels hollow.

Is anyone aware of a resource I could utilize they found highly effective? I am more than happy to pay for knowledge, especially if it includes some level of active mentorship or a small group. I can learn on my own, but it's much easier if I don't have to go at it completely solo.

Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!

What are your thoughts on the podcast by Charles Hoskinson from this podcast? [Quoted]

"Hi everyone this is Charles Hoskinson broadcasting live from warm sunny Colorado. Always warm, always sunny, sometimes Colorado, even when I have snow on the ground so the topic of today's video is DOGE DOGE DOGE, the crazy crazy coin that never dies and has been around our industry for quite a long time.

The first time at a conference I got a question about DOGE, I'll never forget, I was on a panel with Dan Larimer and David Johnston and it was being moderated by Jason King and it was a mastercoin versus bitshares versus ethereum panel and at that time I was still part of the ethereum project. That was January of 2014. Very long time ago and there was a joking comment about DOGE getting smart contracts before us and conquering the entire world.

DOGE has always been for our industry kind of a an inside joke, a pet rock, a fun mocking cryptocurrency light-hearted thing and it just always seems to be around but it something we, for the most part, have never taken seriously recently due to the efforts of Elon Musk principally and market manipulation by clever whales DOGE has become stratospheric and has become a haven for new entrants into the cryptocurrency space. Let's be very clear this is a bubble! The price of DOGE is not sustainable, it's going to collapse and a massive amount of retail money is going to be lost very quickly. My belief is that after that bubble bursts, it will be a catalyst for regulators and lawmakers to get involved in our industry and hurt the entire industry.

It's not a good event and by no means is this sustainable. You know when you look at the third generation of cryptocurrencies the ALGORANDs, the TEZOS, the AVALANCHEs, the CARDANOs, the ETH2... Each of these projects have large teams, capital and accountability. People wake up every single day to try to get the software the protocols and the ecosystems to the next level. They have the aspirations or reality of use and utility. People use these systems to do interesting things or promote new business models that we've never seen before.

DOGE does not have a stable development team, there is no original technology in DOGE, it's a copy of bitcoin. If at two o'clock in the morning a major flaw is discovered there will be no one who's up late at night trying to find a way to fix it. Maybe a volunteer but no guarantee. It is a pet rock, it's not real and if this is the gateway for retail investors to enter our ecosystem at massive losses, at some point it's going to hurt each and every one of us. After the bubble burst, because it will, there's going to be congressional inquiries, there's going to be senate hearings, there's going to be SEC running around, there's going to be all kinds of regulators running around saying this is proof that crypto can't control itself.

We need to come in and save you and you're not going to like the outcome and the people leading the third generation were the ones who are going to have to clean up the mess and endure the consequences of the coming regulation as a result of the bubble bursting. It's a mockery of my life's work, it's a mockery of the hard work and effort that so many people put into this industry. In space there is an enormous difference between the TEZOS and the ALOGORANDs and the AVALANCHEs and the CARDANOs and DOGE.

The science alone, the papers alone, the code alone, there's nothing that's a copy. It's all novel and original and people put so much effort and work into it and to have this surge be what defines our industry and the perception of our industry where does that lead? So, I know a lot of people are celebrating on that side of the aisle and they think this is just the best thing ever and Elon Musk continues to post and post and post and really seems to enjoy doing this but what goes up will come down and our industry is going to be worse for it.

So, my warning to anybody who will listen is don't buy DOGE! Get out of DOGE! If you've made money, great, get the hell out of it! It's a bubble, it's not real, there's nothing sustainable there and to the industry as a whole stand up to this behavior, this manipulation, we have grown beyond this. If we continue doing these things we will be regulated to a point where we no longer have freedom in autonomy and we're no better than the banks!

You'll have to get a crypto charter just like you get a bank charter. It'll be an invitation only club and controlled by the top down and any freedom that we have managed to pull back from the legacy financial system will be lost because of our stupidity and avarice. It has to stop and it's getting too big!

45 billion, 50 billion, what happens when it gets to 100 billion? To 200 billion? These numbers bring lawmakers in, these numbers bring international regulation in, it has to stop and it's not!

No one seems to be calling it out and saying hey let's slow this down, hey industry be careful, there's no substance behind what's happening here, it is what it is. I guess the caravan moves on and the work continues and I'll be here tomorrow and the day after and the day after and the day after even if there are hard days even if we get yelled at, even if we have to somehow deal with new regulations even, if we have to deal with bad perceptions of the industry going into yet another crypto winter.

We endured a few before, we'll endure another again. I'm just sad and sorry for all people that are going to lose money and I'm sad and sorry for all the people in our industry that are delighting from this event knowing full well what it's going to do. Until next time, talk to you guys later..."

How to maximize your chances of finding what you're looking for: CashApp Gold

Follow these simple guidelines:

1) As a general rule, be as much specific as you can, every little detail counts and may help us find what you're looking for.

2) Specify the time frame the game came out, at least the decade . Can't remember? Try thinking of other games you might remember playing around the same time as the one you are looking for.

3) Specify the system you played the game on (which console, PC, operating system). If you're not sure, telling us which systems you owned in your gaming history narrows the field down considerably. If it was a flash game that you played on some website, don't say "PC game", say "flash game" or "browser game".

4) List any distinctive qualities you can remember: what genre of game was it (FPS, RPG, Plat former...)? Was the game 2D or 3D? What did the characters and enemies look like? Was the protagonist a male or a female or multiple characters? Was it first person or third person? If third person, what was the camera angle: behind the character, from the side, top-down, isometric? Was the game really bloody? How many players in multiplayer? Post anything you can remember, even if it sounds insignificant.

Sticking to these ground rules will not only help others find the answer to your request, but ensures that the first answer given is more likely to be what you are looking for.

Lets talk about the acala build event and what a disaster it was for many people

Firstly:

"Participants are marked based on their community contributions and involvement" Still waiting for this to be true.

Like many who are here I've been a long time follower of acala and karura projects and I took the time to sign up to their newsletter a few months ago and received the invite for the build funding. Following this I did KYC straight away and have since been waiting for an opportunity to invest in what I think is a promising token. Following todays events I'm actually happy that I didn't send my bitcoin to the project and I think I'll be choosing to bond a lot less to there crowdloan based on the events. So what happened?

  1. Queue it the system they used for the funding had lots of bugs and allowed people to game the system for better slots in what was advertised as an equal opportunity. Personally I think this was handled dreadfully and they could have easily taken steps to make it fairer or just not ran it at all publicly. Also following this there post has made it sound like it was done well and people are happy about it, tell the 200 plus people in discord upset and frustrated after waiting 2 weeks for this.
  2. They were only accepting bitcoin and not dot, which they claimed as 'logistical reasons' time and time again, personally I think something fishy went down here but who knows. We also won't probably ever find out what those reasons were.
  3. You get a better than expected return on initial investment for waiting, like really good. Each dot that was sent priced by bitcoin returns you back 100 aca which they priced at 0.016 dot, so you effectively make 60% based on the returns at the start of the market if you were to sell. Now they also send you 1 KAR as a 'gift' which I presume is worth at least 200 of whatever currency you use. All of this just seems too good to be true and I think investors will be critical of this on receiving their tokens and the price will reflect as there's no terms and conditions set on these tokens unlike the crowdloan equivalent.
  4. Money talks and everyone else takes the bus. The acala team love representing themselfs as a community and talk about being community first but there lack of safeguards that were easily implementable leave me thinking in this case they didn't care about you, I or anyone else who believes and supports there project enough to be active in there community.

Honestly I've watched the podcast and beta'd there products and I'm starting to feel like there might be better projects to bond my tokens for out there, that care more about the people using the product than getting money behind it. I'll probably still grab some tokens, but I've lost a lot of faith today.

edit:

Proof that multipe tabs worked for some:

There's a lot more, just to far to scroll, maybe others can post the screenshots that were posted.

edit 2:

Good explanation of what went wrong with the voting process:

Queue-It waiting room was quite an experience, mainly due to very unfair lottery based selection. People could get multiple places in the queue by opening the website in multiple browsers and devices, thus increasing the chances of an account to be selected in comparison to a uniform distribution based selection. Quite contrary to see teams building decentralized products, and yet allow sybil attacks in the community participation process. And, do not forget the invitation code fiasco for event registration.

edit 3:

Both Discord and telegram are fairly toxic with people who got in taking the time to post things such as "Wasting even more time? Didn’t you want to leave some seconds ago?" and "everyone could cheat with multiple tabs, didn't even need some bot just common knowledge everyone had the same chances in that regard." It's quite nasty to see people lucky enough to invest belittling others.

A friendly advice who's been here, done this. :)

Rule number 1 : Never cut the loss if the only reason you want to sell is the decreasing market price.

Short term market price is determined by supply and demand of shares. And there could be so many reasons for selling, which could be unrelated to the company fundamentals and long-term perspectives, such as new stock offering from the firm, some guys getting margin called, some people wanting to make cash to buy bitcoin, some hedge fund managers taking short position anticipating more incoming block sales from other hedge funds, et cetera.

Only cut the loss when there is an unforeseen event or news that permanently damages the business and the stock's value so much that your previous "undervaluation thesis" is broken.

Otherwise, just wait it out. No one knows when an under-priced stock goes back up, not me, not you, not Warren Buffet, not Carl Icahn, no one.

One can only know (without a 100% certainty) a company's stock could be undervalued if there are reasonable causes. In this case, shares worth billions were sold off thanks to a guy with 4-500% margin, and additional huge amount of shares are shorted.

This is clearly a case for a strong rebound of the stock price at some point in the future. The shorts will cover at some point, and we have a 100 million buy orders GUARANTEED. Also, once the market confirms that the shorts are covering, then all the buyers will come in, so the amount of buy order will be far much more than 100 million. (just don't know how much)

Therefore, it might not be smart to sell as soon as the stock price is just a little recovered...You'd be far better off by postponing the sale of your shares "until the amount of shares shorted are virtually gone".

We just don't know when it is going to happen...It could happen next week, next month, or even next year.

Just be patient!! Like everything in the world, buying undervalued stock and making money TAKES TIME.

Cheers,

NFT on Bitcoin: Stacks made it possible!

Just about a month ago one JPG file got sold for nearly $70 million. You must have wondered what was so unique about it? Its uniqueness was its authenticity, that it was original. Made by digital artist Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple, called ‘Everydays: The First 5000 Days’, the piece comprises the 5,000 pieces of digital artworks that he made previously over a span of 13 and half years.

The jpg was auctioned online and it was made possible through first minting NFTs or Non Fungible Tokens of the image. Non Fungible Tokens are unique tokens very limited in number for each asset object, the lesser the NFTs for each object the lesser would be the owners for the same. Eg: a limited edition music release can have only 10 NFTs per album signifying a maximum of 10 different owners of the same. The rights of the album would lie with the people owning the NFT. On the other hand, a house may have only 1 NFT. No. of NFT per object is defined by the creator of NFT.

NFT are units of data stored on a blockchain, hence certifying the asset to be unique and not interchangeable. A variety of real-world objects/assets such as photos, videos, audio, and other types of digital files can be minted as NFTs. NFTs are digital receipts of a physical asset, NFTs define authentic ownership of the object. Hence when ownership of an object exchanges hands, it becomes more authentic if NFTs are also exchanged.

Bitcoin, the largest and by far the most widely used cryptocurrency does not offer support for complex smart contracts. Moreover, simple contracts that can be executed on Bitcoin are often cumbersome to design and very costly to execute. Blockstack has solved this by introducing PoX based Smart Contracts. With Stacks its now possible to mint NFT on Bitcoin.

Applications and possibilities are limitless: NFTs on STX can be used to: sell a wide range of virtual collectibles from varied sports eg: virtual trading cards, music, digital images, video clips, admit passes to events, ownership rights to cars, ownership rights to houses, flight tickets, education degrees, etc.

Lessons from cryptocurrency related tax rulings

There are no Belgian laws specifically discussing the taxation of crypto-assets. The taxation is similar to other assets without specific legal rules: the profits of individuals can be tax free if normal management of private assets as good house father, or 33% taxed as miscellaneous income for speculative behavior, or up to 50% progressive tax as regular income for professional activities.

Which category is applied in which context, leaves room for a lot of interpretation.

There are 13 cryptocurrency related tax rulings published. 11 of the 13 - the 11 most recent ones - were tax free as normal management of private assets.

The only two things that seemed to have triggered a taxation were frequent trading and corporate investments.

Other things they seem to care about, without examples having triggered taxes:

  • Did you borrow money for your crypto-investments?
  • How much of your total (moveable) assets did you invest in cryptocurrencies?
  • How long did you hold?
  • Is there a relation with your (IT or financial) profession?
  • Is your trading a professional activity?
  • Do you use professional tools?
  • How active are you in the cryptocurrency communities?
  • Do you mine?

There are no clear limits to these questions, but from the 11 tax-free rulings we can at least learn a few acceptable levels. On their own, the following events did not exclude a tax free ruling:

  • 3 purchases in a year
  • Selling bitcoin
  • Selling altcoins
  • Selling less than 1 year after purchase
  • Being jobless during (purchase? and) sale
  • Using a web-based wallet
  • Having no other investments
  • Cryptocurrency investments for (presumably close to but) less than 20% of your moveable assets
  • Large profits (estimations 100-fold or 10000%)

Ruling sources (https://ruling.be):

nr. 2017.852 d.d. 05.12.2017: a student who created an app for the (frequent) trading of his cryptocurrencies got taxed as miscellaneous income.

5 Biggest Cryptocurrency Scams; brokercomplaintalert

In this article, we are going to break down five cryptocurrency biggest scams that ever occurred within the cryptocurrency world. Scams are graded supported factors like; quantity of users they scammed; the quantity of cash they stole; supported the impact it's had on the thought and cryptocurrency world.

1. OneCoin

OneCoin is such a surreal scam that it's to be initiated in our list. To begin it off it had been a cryptocurrency (means it got no blockchain) but for years to the present day it's promoted as a cryptocurrency with nice success. In keeping with unofficial sources they’ve scammed over $19.4bout of OneCoin users. Official sources are talking concerning $4.9b, however, the officers are working with leaked papers that have the info from 2014 to 2017, not as well as the boom in 2018 and 2019.

Yes, that’s true the OneCoin scam is functioning to the present day. Despite their original CEO going missing in 2017, despite their various chief executive officers being in remission for fraud and hiding. The scams continue. They're marketing pointless tokens within the variety of “educational packages” promising it’s members high returns. The scam was ne'er closed and there are still “leaders” that try to bait additional folks into the system to scam money from them.

2. Bitconnect

Everyone in the crypto area is aware of Bitconnect. After you think about a cryptocurrency scam you instantly think about a Bitconnect. It was thus standard due to their extravagant ceremony and massive scammy YouTubers promoting it. Terrorist Matos, the person who created the Bitconnect acculturation, it’s principally due to him that Bitconnect is thus widely renowned in the crypto area until these days. It was free in 2016 as a supposed disposition platform and a correct Ponzi scheme.

During the time it runs, it was promoted by vast YouTubers that were earning cash through referee links. They scammed around $3M combined from their communities. On Jan three, 2018, Texas State Securities Board issued a stop and refrain to the corporate, occupation it a Ponzi theme, and citing failings in user earnings transparency, and dishonorable statements. Solely fourteen days once the Bitconnect exit scammed and therefore the value crashed ninety-two to eventually drop to zero. Immediately the Bitconnect is generally remembered as one of the best memes within the area.

3. PlusToken

Another cryptocurrency Ponzi theme PlusToken was a “high-yield investment program”. The bulk of their presence was in China and Choson. Their approach was different than as an example Bitconnect, they targeted additional offline conferences and events to speak face to face with potential investors. In this fashion, they were ready to produce a giant user base of investors even outside the crypto world. At the top of June 2019, the primary issues began to occur. People were having a bother retreating their profits from the platform.

4. Bitcoin Savings & Trust

Perhaps most of the CT ne'er detected concerning this Ponzi as a result of it was launched within the very period of Bitcoin in 2011, however, it was a precursor that showed people whose crypto may be an excellent target for folks that can profit of latest area with countless uneducated folks. The scam was created by Trendon Shavers referred to as “Pirate”. He was claiming that he's selling BTC to some native consumers and he desires additional BTC to produce them liquidity.

People began to offer him their money. In theory, he would sell them over-the-counter and rebuy for a better an additional robust an improved value at the market and gave people the maximum amount as seven-members more weekly.

5. Pincoin and iFan

Pincoin and iFan wherever Tai ICOs go by an equivalent company fashionable technical school. The businesses were giving forty-eighth of a profit for investors simply once a month and full investment recovery once four months. 8 May 1945 commission for referral program may be a must-have for a correct ponzi scam. To lure people in they organized many offline events everywhere in Asia to collect a correct user base. iFan was purported to be a celeb app to attach with their fans and sell their merchandise.

Cardano Rumor Rundown APR 16 2021

Hey Everyone!

I've been consuming all the Cardano news and media on a daily basis for years now. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to share a list of what I'm seeing for anyone else who's interested. Feel free to make additions as you see fit. Many of your additions from yesterday are in the “Newly Covered” list for today. Also let me know if you think any of the “Previously Covered but Still Interesting” items are no longer interesting and should leave the list.

Check out the youtube companion to today’s post: https://youtu.be/VcWzja0oPBs

Let's go....

Newly covered today:

  1. The Cardano Foundation drops the Native Token Registry! https://twitter.com/CardanoStiftung/status/1382700374755323916
  2. Heavy criticism of the Occam Razer IDO continues. https://twitter.com/DCdoso/status/1382464770398371842 https://twitter.com/RichardMcCrackn/status/1382677290916712448 https://twitter.com/LiquidLandon/status/1382439109763891203
  3. Occam replied with an open letter. https://twitter.com/OccamFi/status/1382432862654369798
  4. You can now get Cardano exposure in your 401(k) and IRA accounts via iTrust Capital. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/cardano-ada-ira-401k-funds-113800620.html https://twitter.com/iTrustCapital/status/1382461184461271041
  5. Santo Staking Pool will be launching “Skullys” NFTs on Cardano. https://finance.yahoo.com/finance/news/santo-blockchain-labs-mints-50-134500914.html
  6. Yesterday was “Get ADA DAY” with the end of Epoch 259. I hope everyone straight killed it on staking rewards!

Previously Covered but still interesting:

  1. Charles posts a pic of a taxidermy African bird called a Turacos. He follows up that post by saying "Guys sometimes a stuffed Ethiopian exotic bird next to an old identity book is just a stuffed Ethiopian exotic bird next to an old identity book. Stop reading into things". Everyone enjoys speculating what exactly this could mean with the obvious implication being that the African bird announcement involves digital identity in Ethiopia. https://twitter.com/IOHK_Charles/status/1369397063583227911 https://twitter.com/IOHK_Charles/status/1369402020067766275
  2. It's announced that 591 different assets have been minted on Cardano in the last eight days. https://twitter.com/IOHK_Charles/status/1369347294324162561
  3. Catalyst Fund 3 Voting is ongoing, it looks like the Yoroi team has worked out the voting problem in the Yoroi wallet. https://twitter.com/YoroiWallet/status/1369050858546200585
  4. Charles says they are actually going to hire investigators for the IOG anti-scammer team. People with a law enforcement or intelligence background should feel free to apply. Should have a report on the team’s first investigation soon. Hopefully, this will contribute to scammers actually actively avoiding (those alliterations tho!) Cardano. Could also be a nice basis for an intelligence apparatus and private military when we build the Cardano Citadel. I mean somebody is gonna have to man the watchtowers if we’re gonna keep out all the no-coiners and ETH people. Kidding...kidding. https://youtu.be/6God9Xtzuqs
  5. Cardano hodler Ben Askren continues preparations for his boxing match with Jake Paul. Being a Cardano hodler, it is already a foregone conclusion that Askren’s aura will cause Jake Paul to refuse to fight before the opening bell even sounds. https://twitter.com/Benaskren/status/1286094545973846017 https://twitter.com/Benaskren/status/1376021472993480705
  6. We hit 100% decentralization of block production tomorrow. Breath it in, friends. Taste the sweet completely decentralized air. Many crypto ecosystems will never know that feeling. https://twitter.com/InputOutputHK/status/1376527930159816706
  7. Today is D-Day, d=0, complete decentralization of block production as covered in preceding days. Enjoy it guys!!!
  8. The Daedalus wallet now supports native tokens! https://twitter.com/InputOutputHK/status/1376936748715020288
  9. Charles recently mentioned Senegal in the Julian Hosp interview. I believe that is the first time this nation state has been discussed in the context of the pan-African strategy for Cardano. https://youtu.be/Zm6I1agqPWQ
  10. Yesterday, there was a dev community Q&A call with native token engineering lead and Plutus expert, Polina Vinogradova. Lots of good info shared there on all things fungible and non-fungible (including verification in the token registry and babel fees) in the Cardano ecosystem. To drive accuracy, only the party with the private key corresponding to the token minting will be able to make changes in the token registry as to that token.
  11. In the native token call there was also a very interesting characterization of babel transactions as incomplete transactions that will include offers to exchange as a means to complete the transactions. “So, you will do two transactions or no transactions.” These incomplete transactions are called “liability transactions”. A group of them is called a “liability group”. When they get completed they are called a “closed liability group”. Babel fees are still very much in the paper writing phase. The team is currently agnostic as to how these exchange offers will be announced to stake pool operators. For more details on babel fees, we’ll have to wait for the paper.
  12. Cardano Youtuber Big Pey just did two really good videos on the developing NFT scene in Cardano and how to accomplish manual escrow in discord so that you don’t get scammed trying to buy Cardano NFTs. The focus here was on the SpaceBudz series of NFTs. These kinds of manual procedures are probably the best that can be done right now. They also highlight how much easier everything will be once we get smart contracts with Alonzo since simple escrow like this is a prime use case for simple smart contracts that at the outset seem like they should be accomplishable even just in Marlowe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8Yj_dvh7OA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-1TKq7okhs
  13. Cardano hits 400k delegators! https://twitter.com/RichardMcCrackn/status/1377732956194766850
  14. Graph blockchain has announced an acquisition of $300k in ADA for staking purposes. Once the corporate finance world finds understands the dynamic around staking in Cardano, we may see announcements like this with dollar values that are orders of magnitude higher. Right now the corporate world is considering holding BTC on their balance sheets. But, yield on ADA holdings might become hyperattractive to a wide spectrum of companies once they understand the dynamics of staking and that a compounding yield is available for capture. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/graph-blockchain-announces-acquisition-cardano-110000210.html
  15. The Project Catalyst Fund 3 winners have been announced! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1X6BnuFBvNO8yF2DeUgBqA3yyYSvqeKvg/view
  16. Occam.fi is creating a defi launchpad on Cardano that will be called OccamRazer. Cointelegraph OccamRazer Article
  17. Orion Protocol is aiming to be the first liquidity aggregator on Cardano. https://coinmarketcap.com/el/headlines/news/orion-protocol-and-cardano/
  18. How hard is learning Haskell from scratch? Today’s youtube companion to this post describes my experience so far learning Haskell as a beginner with little programming experience. https://haskellbook.com/ http://learnyouahaskell.com/chapters Derek Banas Youtube Haskell Tutorial
  19. Charles tweets a pic of a Turaco and John Hancock. It seems safe to assume this means the minister has signed or is signing the Ethiopia deal! This could finally retire rumor #1 that started the Rumor Rundown. https://twitter.com/ArmySpies/status/1378416705282613253
  20. Cardano NFTs get some coverage on CoinTelegraph. https://cointelegraph.com/news/wild-west-as-developers-macgyver-highly-popular-nfts-on-cardano/amp
  21. Emurgo Academy for blockchain education? Has anyone heard of this? https://twitter.com/emurgo_io/status/1378346801598754816
  22. Onyx Stake Pool announces Cardano’s first Quantum block! https://twitter.com/onyxstakepool/status/1378848216578412547
  23. SpaceBudz published a great article on how they were able to distribute 10,000 NFTs. https://spacebudz.medium.com/how-we-pulled-off-the-sale-9dbe54c30ba5
  24. For those learning Haskell/Plutus, check out this awesome one hour video from 2012 with Brian Beckman that introduces monoids and monads in a very non-scary way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhuHCtR3xq8
  25. Sebastien was recently on Kaizen Crypto and detailed how Emurgo plans to deliver Proof of Keys for Cardano whereby users could sign a message to prove that they own the private keys to a certain account in a standardized format. All queued up to the exact spot: https://youtu.be/VcRlL-6YROY?t=625
  26. ...AND STILL....CARDANO=THE KING OF GITHUB COMMITS! https://twitter.com/wiSource/status/1379142670686294017
  27. Liqwid founder, Dewayne Cameron, did a great interview with Cardano with Paul. It sounds like Liqwid is currently having a team of Haskell developers build out their product in Plutus for a target launch around the same time as Alonzo. This is great news since earlier in its history it looked like Liqwid would initially build in Solidity and use the KEVM bridge. Making their product native to Plutus out of the gate seems like a great move! Dewane also had some really good info about working with IOHK and how a team of seasoned Haskell devs could walk in and probably build anything in Plutus over a not too long timeline. Also a really good discussion of how EUTXO will give their users an advantage in predictability of transaction cost over users of account-balance (e.g. ETH) based competitors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUDze81LCWs
  28. Occam Association President, Mark Berger, also did an interview with Rick McCracken on Cardano Live. He provided some good detail on what Occam would like to deliver and where they currently are in their development. https://youtu.be/vTBLIZ7voz8
  29. Tomorrow we’ll hit the items from the roadmap video that Charles just did.
  30. Cardano is now being used as a traceability solution in conjunction with Scantrust for wine from the Nation State of Georgia. This is a great use case for the Cardano blockchain! https://cardanofoundation.org/en/news/cardano-reveals-its-first-supply-chain-solution-in-association-with-scantrust/ https://www.scantrust.com/
  31. The latest roadmap video from Charles covered a lot of ground. We’ll tackle it piece by piece. https://youtu.be/WRYRjmMvkJM
  32. Ourobouros Omega. Ourobouros Classic 2016 was a “theoretical artifact” that IOHK could build upon. Ourobouros Praos was 2017 and it’s still running now. Ourobouros Genesis was 2018. Ourobouros Omega is going to be the capstone. It will be a rollup of all the previous iterations plus Redux, Chronos, Ledger Combiners, and some things they’ve learned from the larger industry. The paper and a prototype will be this year. We want to be there by Cardano 2025.
  33. Light Clients/Wallets (e.g. Yoroi). Great way to get a view on the blockchain through a server. Trouble is that it’s not trustless as to the blockchain since you don’t download it. Protocols currently on the market like Mina are using recursive snarks (“zk-snark” = “Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge”). You can basically have a proof that proves 1) coins exist, and 2) haven’t been double spent with a goal of 22kb of data (very small amount of data). IOHK has been following Mina and “Bulletproofs” (also a type of snark). IOHK will bring out a paper and (hopefully) prototype of the Mithral Protocol this year. It will be a similar trustless model where light wallet is the default and you can still trust the blockchain on the server is correct without downloading the chain.
  34. Today will be Part II of the coverage of the lates Roadmap vid from Charles. https://youtu.be/WRYRjmMvkJM
  35. Sidechains. They call the main chain the “Cardano Settlement Layer” (CSL) and the side chains are called “Cardano Computation Layers” (CCL). They are looking at having CCLs for the EVM, IELE, Catalyst, and WASM (web assembly). They are trying to figure out how to pay for the maintenance of these side chains. A current thought is to possibly create a mechanism where you can “refine” ADA to get “fuel” for these sidechains. You could even have a Plutus side chain that runs on its own fuel. This year they will propose a Cardano Improvement Proposal (CIP) to see if the community wants to update the monetary policy in an HFC event to go in this direction. This could be a good way to include the parachain ideas from Polkadot. They could also add Hyperledger related permissioned sidechains with this.
  36. Layer Two. A lot of deal flow with Prism right now around digital identify for things like authenticated wallets, KYC/AML, regulated DeFi, and human readable addresses. Charles will probably do a full video on this. Hydra is the other piece of off-chain infrastructure for this year. IOHK has a whole team working on this. They’ve already put out two papers on this. Will put out two more papers this year and a prototype will also be on the way. Hydra will be run by the stake pool operators.
  37. “With all this, we’re going to piss all over what ETH 2.0 is trying to accomplish”. I’m paraphrasing slightly, but I almost spit out my coffee when he said this.
  38. Quantum Resistance. This will be a big project involving: QR VRF, QR zero knowledge stuff, quantum signatures, and modeling of a quantum adversary. This is a huge amount of work. But this is a whole agenda that is in scope for Cardano 2025.
  39. Catalyst & Voltaire. Right now Catalyst is mainly about treasury but it needs to be linked to Voltaire which is all about protocol updates. This will probably mean a bicameral voting model that controls hard fork combinator events. There will be DAO as a service to provide voting rights for your users if you build a dApp or other project on Cardano. They will move from the current plutocracy to something that is hybridized between the current system and “proof of merit”. This is going to require a lot of thinking around the social science behind governance. It will be a more nuanced power dynamic.
  40. Approach to the Reference Client.Right now it’s just Haskell, they will probably also build out clients in Python and Rust. Eventually they may have things like Agda, Idris, or Coq at the core. This notion of a “Core Developer” could end up being a digital identity that is authorized through voting.
  41. Commercial. On the commercial side they are really going to scale things up to the eight figure level. There’s a lot of good news coming there. Charles says he is reserving that for the Africa Special.

  48. Dewayne Cameron was on Cardano Live. Whether you are interested in DeFi or not, this is likely to be one of the big early Cardano based projects. This interview has all the latest info on Liqwid. Sounds like the alpha testnet will be end of April/early May with three or four core contracts. Rick does a really good job of asking questions that a large spectrum of listeners will be able to relate to and they get into the details of how the contracts will work. At 20:01 Dewayne mentions a “Cardano Dex, or the Dex that IOHK and Emurgo are working on...” Very interesting tidbit there! https://youtu.be/JhO5iC08xSA
  49. The Plutus Pioneer program has been open sourced! 61. LunarCrush interviewed Charles and he gave us some more details on the Ethiopia deal and Africa: 1) the IOHK office in Ethiopia is merging with the Singularity Net Office (it’ll be 30-50 people...so pretty large presence); 2) Africa special to be announced very soon; 3) they will be doing fintech & govtech, 4) everything on the governance side is going to be upgraded across a wide swathe of African nation states in next ten years, 5) lots of possible use cases including supply chains in agritech, putting land on a ledger, voting, identity, reputation (i.e. credit), & payment systems; 6) Africa is like investing in China in the 1980s; 7) the demographics of Africa make it a really easy call to direct investment there; 8) charles said “Ethiopia, in particular, is very special to us and WE HAVE ACTUALLY CLOSED SOME DEALS...we’ll talk about those at the Africa Special”; 9) there will be security token plays in Africa in the mid 2020s since there are no stock exchanges; and 10) there is a big unannounced partnership called “the DCF” with a brand name consultancy we will recognize. Where was the Coinbase IPO Bitcoin spike?

Look I am into bitcoin for the long term and generally I am a HODLer. Regular purchases every month DCA’ing, Buying dips if I have some extra fiat I don’t need for necessities.

However I must’ve read 30 article talking about how the coin base IPL was a once in a lifetime event and was going to call in immediate I’ll be at probably temporary bike and the price of Bitcoin and potentially some other cryptos. So against my own procedures, I bought a decent chunk at like $62,700 the night before. Repeatedly heard that it would possibly jump as high as 69k. Planned to sell at around 67500 or 68 k, Move my purchase out and back into fiat savings and leave my profit in.

Well that’s what I get for trying to be clever and squeezing a small profit in the short term. Ethereum sure did jump and I don’t know what the hell is going on with Doge besides the Slim Jim thing but Bitcoin rose much more on the rumor than the event.

Obviously none of this is Financial advice as it should be readily apparent I’m a dumb ass anyway. Back to my HODL ways.
