November 19, 2018 — Bytom Global Devcon 2018 was successfully held at Hangzhou International Expo Center (G20 venue). About 300 audiences attended this developer conference. More than 50 heavyweight speakers including founder of 8btc and Bytom Chang Jia, Bytom co-founder Duan Xinxing, former chief engineer of Shanghai stock exchange Bai Shuo, as well as hundreds of well-known blockchain projects have presented at the conference.
Hosted by Bytom, a decentralized network for multi-assets registration and flow with the aim of bridging the byte world and atomic world, the Bytom Global Dev Competition has drawn over 100 teams competing for the top 16 to take home 2 millions of BTM.
Duan Xinxing, the founder of Bytom, expressed his appreciation for all the Bytom supporters in the opening remark and spoke highly of the blockchain spirit — the spirit of open source and openness. He stressed that Bytom, in this spirit, is seeking to serve the public and working out issues the current society is facing to finally bring prosperity both in economy and society.
On the DevCon, Bytom’s CTO Lang Yu announced the official release of Bytom’s Sidechain “Vapor” and made it open source the same day. This sidechain will be connected to Bytom mainnet first and to Bitcoin mainnet and Ethereum mainnet in the future after gradual iteration.
In the finals of the Bytom Dev Competition, a selection of 16 out of 100 teams from China, the United States, Europe, South Korea presented their projects.
JoyPub is a decentralized social network group application that integrates PPk open protocol and multi chains. It can be regarded as a decentralized Facebook or Twitter, which will help to push users to gradually reduce their dependence on traditional centralized social network platforms and to move to a credible open social network which can independently grasp identity and data rights.

How I see this situation AS A BELIEVER IN CRYPTO!

Do research ignore the prices, invest in active projects and serious teams with great visions that solve complex problems!

Markets are driven by rationale on the long term and psychology on the short term. This is why it's always smart to do your research when the market is not volatile because the psychology can cloud your judgement and mislead you to do something you will regret. This way you would be making your decisions beforehand using your rational thinking and research, rather than in the flurry of emotions when there's an uproar and stress and chaos everywhere.
Buy low, sell high. This saying is so easy to make fun of but so difficult for people to sincerely appreciate and live by. This saying is literal. It literally means buy when the market is crashing, and sell when the market is in euphoria. Of course you would have to do your research beforehand and you would only buy the markets that you understand and believe in; you can't just go out there and buy every single stock that is crashing right now.
One of the things that I have noticed among investors, myself included, is that we just feel very disappointed and resentful when the market crashes - even though we believe in our investments and that it'll do better in the future. From my introspection, I have found that it's because we think someone is getting bitcoins for way cheaper than I think its fair while I failed to sell when the price is high and I could potentially have had so much more. This type of thinking, however, is flawed. Not a whole lot of bitcoin can be accumulated while maintaining the price this low. Any significant amount of accumulation will cause the market to rise; and it'll rise very rapidly given how (relatively) thin volumes is in the Bitcoin realm. So, there is no injustice. No-one will be able to accumulate vast amounts of bitcoin for cheap.
Then there's another type of people, people who are considering selling because they want out with whatever profit/loss they have accrued. I implore you to ask yourself one question, "Who do you think will buy the Bitcoins you sell?". Think about that buyer, is he/she a sucker? Or are they smart and wise to garner as many bitcoins as possible when it's low? Just try to think about what is going into someone's head that is buying your bitcoins while you sell. Ignore your thoughts, and focus on their thoughts instead. This gives you perspective, and a very important one at that.
A market with fundamental value never crashes to nothingness. It just can't. It has value by definition. All the brilliant ideas that constitutes this project, all the hard work by some of the most brilliant people in this field that has gone in to build something tangible, all the passion that so many people have towards this project, all the software and hardware infrastructure that is built around this project; they have value. This project is incredibly valuable and it's value doesn't go away just because a few newcomers can buy 600 bitcoins at the rate of $4000 each, or $3000, or may be even $1000. These are transient events, and an astute investor should be able to rise above this and look at the big picture.
If you didn't believe in this project, you should've done your research before buying in. If you bought in doing all the research and implications of this project, I fail to understand why you would even consider selling. Investing is not easy; nothing significant in life is easy.

On Monday morning, when the market's moves were still relatively orderly, Nomura's Charlie McElligott made a prescient observation why momentum stocks were getting slaughtered, and why the "_value to growth"_rotation was about to leave hedge funds with even greater losses.
To those who listened and unwound, congrats, because on Tuesday, with the Dow down almost 600 points at its lows, McElligott writes that the cross-asset markets de-risking continues, which somewhat surprisingly is occurring in conjunction with a collapse in market expectations for 2019 Fed implied hikes, down to just 31.5bps.
This is a clear shift in market sentiment, because even as the market prices in a dovish Fed, stocks are getting crushed.
This "Best is Behind Us” / “Fed has tightened us into a slowdown” view is entrenching itself alongside the weekend escalation of Trade War Cold War between China and US, which is clearly now bleeding into the supply-chain and broad sentiment, the Nomura strategist writes today and notes that signs of capitulation are visible across the asset spectrum, as "VaR-down" behavior becomes apparent via new local- and multi-year lows/wides being made, with the credit blow out accelerating and HYG down for 8 days in a row (the record is 9).
_**VaR-down with liquidation of "longs" and 100-500bps of outperformance from shorts:
_Meanwhile, contrary to what JPM suggested recently when it saw no further selling pressures in the quant space, yesterday’s US Equities Momentum factor unwind (with the market-neutral strategy -3.5% on session) **was a 1st %ile event dating back to 1983, with the selloff of “Momentum Longs” (-4.5%) in particular was a 0%ile move, i.e., extremely rare.
What happened was that as hedge fund liquidations continue, whether due to redemption requests or otherwise, uber-crowded longs in the US Software industry were being liquidated according to McElligott, with GS basket of Software Cos trading 8x’s EV / Sales -10.0% on the day, an impossible -8.7SD move across all returns in its 2.5 yr history; Elsewhere, S&P Tech was -3.8%, Russell 2k Tech -4.6%; Finally, the Nomura strategist notes, or rather warns, that Nasdaq 100 30d volatility sits at 35, the highest level since late 2011, which just means more mechanical “VaR-down” is coming for these “longs”.
Going back to today's market, here are some additional observations from McElligott:
So what is the root cause behind this seemingly relentless market freakout?
To McElligott, the answer is the theme where “tighter financial conditions” bleed across and reset (lower) risk-asset term premium—is picking-up steam, ESPECIALLY now that the Fed’s pivot to a “softer tone” perversely acts to “confirm” the market’s multi-month “tightening ourselves into a slowdown” worst fears.
Here, after markets were spooked by Powell's Octoebr 3 line that policy is "a long way from neutral", over the past week, multiple Fed speakers seemingly attempted to “walk-back” the hawkishness of that comment with a more moderate data-dependent tone, with Powell himself acknowledging last week that the Fed is “…well aware of” the three key challenges to growth in 2019—fading fiscal stimulus, slowing demand abroad and the lagged-impact of the prior policy normalization.
Two days later, the "tantrum-ing" market then further seized on Vice Chair Clarida’s Friday commentary where he “moved the goalposts” of Powell’s October “…long way from neutral” statement, instead saying “…I think being at neutral would make sense”—which to McElligott was "effectively a RATE CUT with regards to prior forward expectations" as we discussed yesterday.
But instead of being a “dovish relief story,” it instead did the opposite in the minds of investors who are seemingly committed to pulling-forward the “end of the cycle” trade.
Meanwhile, as tighter financial conditions / higher interest rates eventually slow the real economy (see yday’s NAHB sentiment collapse / “miss”), Charlie's thesis continues to expect timing of said slowdown coming after the March 2019 hike, "at which point I believed the market would “sniff” said slowdown and thus REMOVE HIKES from the front-end as the Fed would be forced to “pause”—in turn, steepening the curve."
Instead, some in the market are pulling-forward this “end of cycle” view into the NOW, which is being exacerbated by already ugly performance and year-end illiquidity / dealer balance sheet “tightness” leading to capitulatory behavior—with the concurrent volatility in-turn is nuking legacy QE-era “curve flattening” derivative trades, i.e. the consensual U.S. Equities “Growth over Value” positioning
And, as the Nomura strategist has said before, this Trasury curve _bull steepening_would act as the ultimate “end of cycle” risk-off signal, telling traders that we were at the end of Fed policy normalization—because growth trajectory is decelerating, fiscal stimulus impacts are rapidly diminishing, financial conditions are net / net “tighter” and that policy has approached the level where it is no-longer “stimulative”
Which brings us to McElligott's conclsion, in which he notes that "in the sense that I still believe that in this current state the Fed will hike two more times (Dec18 and Mar19) before the “gig is up,” I am surprised that the market is taking this current (and still somewhat modest Fed language shift reversal) as THE “Fed pause / slowdown” cue; but regardless of the timing-scenarios, the risk now is that the market de-risking only FURTHER acts to tighten financial conditions (especially in Credit) while bleeding sentiment further in a vicious cycle."
Finally, adding insult to injury is the mega Fed balance-sheet shrinkage tomorrow, when $27.1BN of combined Treasuries and MBS- mature, acting to further “tighten” financial conditions.
And, as a bonus, for any funds still desperate to position themselves, here is McElligott's take on how to position in Growth vs Value during this turbulent period:
Growth LONGS are “expensive stuff” that gets CRUSHED at the end of cycles because they will see the largest cuts in forward EPS—and we’re seeing said “revisions lower” within “Growth LONGS” in real-time
Only later then does “Value” get the additional kicker from “Value LONGS,” as after we hit slowdown / recession, the market begins to price-in the next Fed EASING cycle, and these primarily “economically sensitive” stocks see the highest re-weighting / benefit to the rate cuts through their cyclicality
This is not going to be a “linear” path; there are periods where both Growth- and Value- can work—however, I believe that relatively speaking, Value continues to outperform over the next 1Y window, continuing its enormous outperformance QTD:

The typical week with the standard forecasts has suddenly witnessed a massive drop in the price of BTC, accompanied by a clear flight of capital from the crypto market. This time, we didn’t observe the usual dump of the first half of the week with the subsequent return to the original value.
The total capitalization of the crypto market at the beginning of the week — $211 billion — dropped to $180 billion by Thursday, with a slight correction after falling on Sunday — $186 billion. The trading volume remained $12.5–13 billion for the entire week, reaching $24–25 billion during the fall.
The BTC dominance also increased from 53% to 58% and bounced back to 53% only by the end of the week. The price per 1 BTC gradually decreased from $6,413 to $6,300, and then fell to $5,600 within one day.
The price remained the same for the rest of the week, amounting to the same $5600 at the end of the week. At the beginning of the week, the lively trade in altcoins gave way to the worries concerning the price of BTC and, accordingly, the behavior of altcoins. And right away, some people pulled out the old forecasts, promising a fall to $4,000, $3,000, and even to $1,300, which were earlier pushed aside as they were deemed irrelevant. Some people quickly changed their forecasts for the price by the end of the year, suddenly realizing the inconsistency of the market.
There is a strong opinion that the undercover games of the creators of the BCH fork, who are waging a war for survival, have played a huge role in this price drop.
However, a number of well-known traders and analysts, whose authority is based on their consistency and competence, continue to insist that the current “bottom” is just another reason to add BTC to your portfolio. And they have a point!
No matter how persistent the chat rooms and media are in stirring up FUD and panic, cryptocurrency is already winning its share in the economy. We observe more real use cases of this technology, real implementation of cryptocurrency for its intended purpose, as well as more interest and direct participation of large companies. All the investors need to do is wait, or better yet, take advantage of the situation! Otherwise, they would have to catch up, and this is not the best solution!
