Some guidlines to follow when buying off of a DNM.

Here is a very crude guide on what to do as a buyer on a DNM. This is by no means comprehensive, however; it is a supplemental guideline to follow in conjunction with a proper guide (i.e. DNM buyer bible)

  1. Buy bitcoin from anywhere. Seriously, it does not matter where your source bitcoin is from. If you are buying personal amounts, nobody is going to catch you by analyzing the blockchain, your 3 LSD tabs are not worth the tax dollars it would take for a full on investigation. As long as you follow this minimum path: Bitcoin source i.e. Coinbase--> Intermediary wallet (Tails)--> DNM

  2. NO VPN. VPNs are not an added layer of security, in fact, they decrease your opsec. I've seen a lot of posts lately condoning the usage of VPNs. Do not follow this advice. Instead, you should be using tails, as this Live OS runs off a flash drive and all internet traffic is routed through tor. It contains all the tools needed for DNM activity.

  3. Always save a legitimate link to a DNM when you find one, and never use another one online. This minimizes phishing by counterfeit links. Also, specifically for dream, always use 2 factor authentication with pgp. This makes it difficult for scammers to access your account even if you're phished.

  4. NEVER FE. When you FE, you are taking an unnecessarily large risk of being scammed. Escrow is one of the only things preventing you from being scammed by a vendor. It does not matter that the vendor claims he will throw in extra or take off shipping. Is the ~10 dollars you MIGHT save worth risking losing all of your money?

  5. Do not use the same username/passwords for DNM accounts that you use on any clearnet accounts. Also do not log into any of your clearnet accounts on tails/tor. This will make you identifiable very easily.

  6. Use your home address, don't use drops. Drops look supsicious. You order mail to your residence all the time, if you start having mail delivered to a different address, USPS might very well notice that this is out of the ordinary. The only exception to this is if you still live with parents/someone who does not want to be involved with DNM activity. This is a dick move and putting them through potential raids/civil forfeiture is very selfish. If this is the case--at least get a P.O. box. This is also good to mention: Do not use a fake name when placing orders. This is also something that might very well look odd to USPS/your mailman. Remember, you are trying to blend in, and not raise any eyebrows.

  7. This seems pretty obvious but I'll mention it anyway: DO NOT TALK ABOUT YOUR DNM ACTIVITY IRL. Loose lips sink ships, seriously.

Bank of England adviser tells Bloomberg that cryptos fail fundamental financial tests

Crypto Market Recap

  • Cryptocurrencies are mostly higher in midday trading as the price of Bitcoin (BTC) is 0.90% higher in the last 24 hours to USD$3,612.13.  Bitcoin Cash (BCH), EOS (EOS), and TRON (TRX) are leading the gains in major coin today, all up more than 5% to USD$129.51, USD$2.48, and USD$0.026568, respectively. Ripple (XRP) and Binance Coin (BNB) are lagging major coin in today’s trading, meanwhile, down 0.29% and 0.71% to USD$0.319089 and USD$6.49, respectively.

Crypto Developments in Financial Services

  • US-based crypto exchange Coinbase has launched cross-border wire transfer services via the SWIFT network for high-volume Coinbase Pro and Prime users in Europe and Asia, according to an official announcement Tuesday. Additionally, the post details that, “select Coinbase Prime customers globally will also have access to our US and European over-the-counter (OTC) trading desks and Coinbase Custody.” Coinbase Custody is a service mainly for institutional customers that stores large amounts of cryptocurrencies.
  • The London Stock Exchange Group confirmed in an official post on Tuesday that its Millennium Exchange trade-matching technology will power AAX, a new crypto exchange venture launched by Hong Kong-based ATOM Group. AAX will reportedly launch in the first half of 2019 and aims to provide a, “scalable,” and, “compliant,” cryptocurrency trading platform, according to ATOM Group. AAX will be the first cryptocurrency exchange to use the London Stock Exchange Group’s Millennium Exchange trade-matching technology.
  • Bakkt, the long-awaited cryptocurrency platform venture by the Intercontinental Exchange, announced in a Tweet on Tuesday that is in search of a number of high-ranking positions. The tweet by Bakkt contains vacancies for eight different high-ranking positions, including a director of blockchain engineering, a blockchain developer, a director of security engineering, and a senior full stack engineer. Bakkt is hiring for US positions in Atlanta and New York City and international positions in Hong Kong, Tokyo, San Francisco, London, Tel Aviv, and Singapore.

Crypto Regulatory Environment

  • A new report published by the Bank for International Settlement (BIS) finds that problems in Bitcoin (BTC) will only be solved if the network departs from a proof-of-work (PoW) verification protocol. As per the report published on Monday, “Simple calculations suggest that once block rewards are zero, it could take months before a Bitcoin payment is final, unless new technologies are deployed to speed up payment finality.” The report goes on to discuss that, although second-layer network solutions like the Lightning Network may help scaling, “the only fundamental remedy would be to depart from proof-of-work.” The report notes that such a departure from PoW would likely come from social coordination or institutionalization.
  • De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), the Dutch central bank, and the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets, the country’s financial regulator, are planning a regulatory framework that could introduce a licensing scheme for domestic cryptocurrency exchanges and wallet service providers. A joint report published by the two Dutch authorities cites, “high financial crime risks,” as reasoning for the licensing scheme pertaining to domestic cryptocurrency industry.
  • Huw van Steenis, a senior adviser to Bank of England (BOE) Governor Mark Carney, said in an interview with Bloomberg on Monday that cryptocurrencies fail fundamental financial tests. Van Steenis, who boasts tenure at Schroders and Morgan Stanley, responded when asked about the potential threat cryptos pose to economic stability, “I’m not so worried about cryptocurrencies. They fail the basic tests of financial services. They’re not a great unit of exchange, they don’t hold value, and they’re slower.”

General Crypto News

  • A report published by crypto analytics firm Diar indicates that on-chain Ethereum (ETH) transaction value hit an all-time high in December 2018. Users conducted transactions worth 115mm ETH in December 2018, the largest monthly total excluding activity following a hard fork caused by a DAO hack in 2016. The US dollar value of ETH on-chain transactions in December 2018, however, recorded a 22-month low of USD$815mm, down from USD$1.1bn a year prior.

Nano Node - Simple Box of Tricks

Forgive me if this is a repeat question, but do any members of the community know of a really easy complete guide to setup a Nano Node? Having searched a little, there are many bits and bobs around the subject but they are all rather fragmented and, in my opinion, overly technical.

I have in the past tried setting up a AWS node, and I see the Droplet option is popular. I was hoping there maybe some sort of solution that perhaps could be run on a Raspberry Pi (akin the the Bitcoin / Litecoin Lightning Network Node made by Casa)?

If someone can produce (or is already) an easy to setup box of tricks that's easy to manage then that would be great.

How Miami Became America's Capital of CryptocurrencyLured by the promise of insane profits, some 5,000 people came to Miami for the 2018 event, more than ten times the attendance just a couple of years ago, according to 29-year-old conference founder Moe Levin."It was a lot more people that were chasing the hype," he says. "We sold 350 tickets in 2016. We were really begging people to come."As crypto reaches peak fervor, there's a palpable energy about Bitcoin and its underlying technology, the blockchain. In barely a decade, a movement that began with utopian dreams of restoring power to the people is seeing real returns. Governments such as Canada are using the blockchain to add transparency to public funding, while retailers like Walmart have used the tech to help customers trace their food from farms to shelves. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is even testing blockchain technology to keep records safe from hackers. Thanks to lax state oversight and an influx of foreign cash..... Cryptocurrency Needs a New Direction

Where should we focus for 2019? No matter how you look at it, 2018 was a horrible year for the entire cryptocurrency scene. Bitcoin was at the forefront of all of this. Frankly, it doesn't matter what top 100 market cap coin you're invested in. The price movements between the coins correlate massively. You can see this by observing the entire market cap. There is no such thing as pure diversification in cryptocurrency.

The events of 2018 have destroyed the trust of many. There is apparent manipulation. There is a lack of spending within the cryptocurrency economy. There is a lack of production within the cryptocurrency economy. The price movements have been entirely driven up due to manipulation from a select few. This speculation is foolish and it has done no good for the cryptocurrency community.

In what ways are we actually better off from the substantial rise in price? We've seen companies refuse cryptocurrency as a payment option. People have stupidly bought into the hype. There has been losses attributed to cryptocurrency. The news coverage has never been more bleak.

It's easy to blame external forces. Blame the government. Blame the federal reserve. Blame what you want. It does nothing to solve the fundamental problems that cryptocurrency has. I believe the problem isn't with the government. The issue has everything to do with ourselves and cryptocurrency itself.

In its current form, to call cryptocurrency a 'currency' is a stretch. There was a $600 billion speculation on the entirety of cryptocurrency. The actual exchange of goods and services using cryptocurrency wouldn't even be 10% of that. Who is actually using cryptocurrency as a 'currency'? Let's be honest, nobody but a dedicated few. Most people are in cryptocurrency to make a short-term profit. So much for Bitcoin taking over the world. The people who use cryptocurrency want to sell out for USD, the allegedly doomed currency.

The increase in market cap was entirely down to speculation. We're supposed to be against stupid bubbles. Bitcoin was itself a response to the 2008 Financial Crisis caused by the pumping of the real estate bubble. The boom and bust cycle does nothing for real growth. Indexed, we're only marginally better off than we were in 2008. In regards to the cryptocurrency economy, the same applies.

The responsible way to develop the cryptocurrency economy is to look at the fundamentals. People are too focused on unrealistic and frivolous projects to grow the cryptocurrency economy. I embrace the knowledge economy wholeheartedly, but not at the expense of the production, resource or service economy. These basics have been overlooked by the cryptocurrency sphere. Why do we need 50 coins (forks) which do the same thing? There are plenty of coins pegged to a USD in the CoinMarketCap 100. There are plenty of coins which do the same task as Bitcoin. In what way do these so-called projects increase the practical reach of cryptocurrency into the lives of people?

We have to be realistic and practical about the issues cryptocurrency faces. The ideology of sitting on your thumbs, doing nothing, has failed us. Passiveness is a failure. By no means am I advocating for central-planning or economically authoritarian measures. I'm advocating for fundamental capitalist principles. Supply and demand. The needs of consumers. The development of an economy. The richest economies on earth are capitalist, yet they have rules. By no means are these countries a failure.

If we want a reasonable increase in market cap, cryptocurrency needs to accommodate for goods and services. It needs to function like an economy. Fortunately we have solutions that already address the issue of goods. A good example being OpenBazaar. The issue of services is more mucky. I believe we need to prioritise services over goods. Most goods sold aren't done on a business-to-consumer basis. It's largely business-to-business. Where cryptocurrency can gain its own value is by service creation.

Service creation is a no-brainer for cryptocurrency. We can improve the value of cryptocurrency by simply expending time and energy to create utility. People will request services, they will be rendered, this will increase the value. As the quality and category of work improves, the value will too. As jobs will require more knowledge and effort, we will see this reflected in the overall price and size of the cryptocurrency economy. This doesn't require the flooding of dollars to pump up the market. It requires ingenuity and the hard-work of others. The resource that the cryptocurrency will be fundamentally based on is people. This will make it independent and stronger than currencies like USD which is heavily dependent on debt than resources or manufacturing.

Not only does rendering services create value, it will inspire people to better themselves to create quality products. They will utilise skills the have and offer them. If you can do the job, you're part of the solution.

The type of work needs to be based in the real world. The digital gig economy is severely limited in categories and scope. Where can you find a person to walk your dog? Where can you find someone to mow your lawns? Where can you find a mechanic? It's most certainly not on a website like Fiverr or Freelancer. It's not even an option online, aside from some classified boards.

When applied on a global scale, services and cryptocurrency has the fundamental power to change the economy of the world. People will have a chance to offer what they're good at, at competitive prices, to a wide range of customers. Not only will workers earn, they will also be consumers for other products. As spending increases, and more services are rendered, the overall economy will increase and this will be reflected in the market cap. Again, you don't need to speculate to grow. This is fundamental basic economics.

What do you guys think?

When And Why Was Dash Created?

Dash was created three years ago on 18 January 2014 by its developer Evan Duffield.

Dash was originally released as XCoin (XCO). In February 2014, the name was changed to “Darkcoin”. And on 25 March 2015, Darkcoin was rebranded as “Dash”. Evan Duffield came across Bitcoin in 2010 and was impressed by its technology. But he soon realized that Bitcoin was not private and fast enough.

He had many ideas on how to make Bitcoin anonymous, but he knew that Bitcoin’s core developers wouldn’t allow him to do so, as the core’s code would need to be changed for this. So to change this primary drawback of Bitcoin, Evan decided to use Bitcoin’s core code and build his own cryptocurrency- this is what we know of today as Dash.

BATMINE

PRELIMINARY

Mining can be termed as the validation of transactions or cryptocurrency mining could also be termed as the procedure by which new coins or tokens are introduced (mined) into the current supply in circulation, also a procedure used to secure the system in which the coin operates on. Those who mine a coin are called miners. Miners often face numerous challenges when mining, it is safe to say that they are in need of an in all solution to their current challenges to help curb the problems for a probable solution. Cryptocurrency mining is very expensive with its high consumption of electricity.

INTRODUCING BATMINE PLATFORM

BATMINE is a blockchain based project whose aim is to eradicate complexities faced by cryptocurrency miners, they intend to provide mining amenities at an affordable rate. They offer miners the opportunity to buy state of the art miners which they can run in any of #batmine establishments, proceeds these miners derives are theirs to keep, they only have to pay a service fee for electricity consumed, operation, service & management.

The team behind the scene of BATMINE are renowned entrepreneurs with expertise in the business, and they’ve invested a lot of time and funds to ensure they get their ideas & formulas right for BATMINE project to succeed. The team is well read and researched in matters of the blockchain technology as well as mining. The mission of#batmine is to make available a safe environment, low electricity cost, and a high hash rate that will generate more proceeds than what miners formally receive. Miners mostly use Antminer S9 which is nothing compared with 55Th/sec #batmine is offering that is nearly the double of what miners are able to mine.

BATMINE mining platform will mine Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum and some others initially but they will watch the crypto market for new altcoins doing great and start mining them. Different types of mining hardware will be used with an eye for their life expectancy, hash power rate, energy usage, electricity usage, easy accessibility of spare parts in case of damaged parts, and ability to switch from mining one cryptocurrency to another

BATMINE MINING LOCATIONS

Various factors will be considered before opening any mining center, below are key things to note before a location can be chosen. ♦ A cool climate is very essential because mining hardware do not need a hot environment, it needs proper air ventilation to avoid overheating. ♦ A secure location that allows quick response in case of any emergency. ♦ A good structured building that suits commercial mining operation. ♦ A region with cheap & affordable electricity bills. ♦ A region with adequate green energy at around 4 cents per kilowatt.

BATMINE TOKEN (BATM)

BATM is the acronym of BATMINE TOKEN (BATM) token, this is a utility token which was created on the ethereum blockchain (smart contract) which will be used as the standard mode of payment for services rendered on the platform. #batm will be the driving force in which batmine will ride on, as mentioned above there will be discounts on cryptocurrency mining pool which highly depends on the amount of tokens owned, the more BATM in a particular user’s wallet the more discount they are entitled to.

Benefits of users are numerous, but I'll mention a few, holders will be entitled to earnings gotten from mining activities on#batmine network, earnings gotten from sales of #batmine miner hardware, earnings over custodial services agreement, and earnings over MaaS (hash power, electricity, and related costs) service agreements. These benefits will continue until March 2029 (A period of 10 years).

Holders of BATM will be able to vote for changes they want to be enforced, be part of development planning, discuss community events and matters arising with the executive team members. The amount of BATM owned will determine the weight of the vote casted. To protect the value of WBT, the team plans to burn unsold and undistributed tokens after the sales, no other token will ever be created, minted or mined.

How Bitcoin (BTC) Can Prepare for a Severe Geomagnetic Storm

https://i.redd.it/kn9csywepzb21.png

https://cryptoiq.co/how-bitcoin-btc-can-prepare-for-a-severe-geomagnetic-storm/

Since the creation of Bitcoin (BTC) in 2009, there have been no severe geomagnetic storms. However, Bitcoin (BTC) users are highly dependent on internet and electricity, and it is inevitable that one day, a severe geomagnetic storm will disrupt Bitcoin (BTC) users across the globe.

A geomagnetic storm starts at the surface of the sun, where massive helical loops of magnetic energy extend outwards into space. These helical magnetic fields often break down in a phenomenon known as magnetic reconnection, and this projects a tremendous amount of radiation and charged particles into space. This is called a solar flare and coronal mass ejection.

When solar flares hit the Earth, they cause rapid fluctuations in Earth’s magnetic field. A fluctuating magnetic field induces electrical currents in conductors. The world’s internet is connected with cables that span the entire ocean, and these cables are highly susceptible to induced electric currents from a geomagnetic storm. Further, electrical power lines extend across great distances on land, and during a severe geomagnetic storm, the current would become so great that transformers would explode and power substations could catch fire.

In March 1989 a severe geomagnetic storm caused Quebec’s power grid to go down within seconds, and another storm in August 1989 halted trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange. However, these events do not compare to the Carrington Event of 1859, the largest geomagnetic storm in recorded human history. Telegraphs system across the world were overloaded with induced electrical current, causing pylons to spark and operators to get shocked. After electricity was cut from the grid numerous telegraph operators were still able to send messages since the geomagnetic storm was generating electricity in the lines. Aurora Borealis, an atmospheric phenomena typically only observed in polar regions, was observed as far south as Cuba and Hawaii.

If the Carrington Event were to occur today, it would shut down electrical and communication grids for days, months, even years, and ultimately, damage could be trillions of dollars. In 2012, a Carrington-sized solar flare happened, but it missed Earth.

The Bitcoin network has just over 10,000 full nodes as of this writing, mostly centered in the United States, Europe, China, and Japan. Unfortunately these nodes are far enough from the equator that they would be highly susceptible to a severe geomagnetic storm and would likely go offline.

Maintaining Bitcoin nodes in the tropics, especially right around the equator, will be crucial to the survival of the Bitcoin network during a severe geomagnetic storm. Even in the worst geomagnetic storm, the equatorial region will be shielded by Earth’s magnetic field, and nations right on the equator may experience little disruption to their electricity and internet.

At this time, there are only about 50 Bitcoin nodes in the equatorial region, mostly in Malaysia, Venezuela, and Colombia. In order for the Bitcoin network to be robust in the event of the most catastrophic geomagnetic storm, global efforts should be made to increase the number of Bitcoin nodes and mining farms along the equator.

Bitcoin users at higher latitudes, like the United States, can take steps to prepare for a geomagnetic storm. All Bitcoin and cryptocurrency should be held in personal wallets where the private key is exclusively controlled by the user, since even reputable wallet services could have their servers fried during a severe geomagnetic storm.

Also, having a personal source of renewable electricity like wind, solar, or hydroelectric could ensure that Bitcoin users keep their electricity running even when the whole grid collapses.

Bitcoin users and miners should disconnect their computers and rigs from electricity before the geomagnetic storm hits. For the most severe geomagnetic storms — ones like the Carrington Event — there is less than one day of warning. Bitcoin users can monitor the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) to avoid being caught off-guard. Computers and mining rigs connected to electricity during a geomagnetic storm could get fried by the induced electrical current.

Maintaining an internet connection is the hardest thing to prepare for. Not even satellite internet is a good option, nor the Blockstream satellites which broadcast the Bitcoin blockchain from space, since satellites can easily get fried by radiation during a severe geomagnetic storm. The best thing Bitcoin users could do is make sure they control their private keys, have a personal renewable electricity source, protect their computer from the storm, and wait for electricity to come back up.

I give up on Bitcoin

I have come to the conclusion I have no idea how to do Bitcoin. I had this dude telling me what to do and he was like "You don't need a wallet, just buy the Bitcoin or Monero".

Like I honestly don't know what the fuck I'm doing, I've read about every guide possible and it just doesn't make sense.

I'm trying to use dream market and I don't understand what PGP is or why I need it, I don't understand how to buy and tumble Bitcoin then transfer it to my market account.

Someone help.

Dream Market Guide for New Users

Introduction

Dream Market is a feature rich escrow marketplace supporting the bitcoin currency and the tor network. The market has been operating for 3 1/2 years now and has been proven to be reliable and secure.

You might find products which are not available legally in your country. This is because the idea of this market place is to support the free market and does not follow local regulation restrictions. If you find a product which is not legal in your country you have to make up your mind for yourself if you should order the product and use it with caution, as sometimes this regulation restrictions do not come from nothing.

How do I make a new Dream Market account?

What are Dream Market's official links?

Main Market Link: lchudifyeqm4ldjj.onion

Mirror Links:

The mirror links are to be used if the main site is unreachable or slow from DDOS attacks or unforeseen circumstances.

Buyers guideline

First of all all members are kindly asked to be honest regarding package delivery, product quality and shipping conditions. This helps maintaining a trusted network, which is a major basis in hidden web marketplaces. Scammers are not tolerated and are quickly identified as such. As a buyer you can look out for a "trusted vendor" label. Vendors with this label have an advanced trusted status, which means they have proven to be trustworthy and they have a long history of successful transactions and positive buyer relations. Vendors without the trusted vendor status are most likely trustworthy too, but they are either new on this market or they did not apply for a trusted vendor status on this site.

Secure your account Bitcoin usage

In order to be able to do purchases you have to use tor and bitcoins to use this site. You will see your bitcoin deposit immediately after you have send bitcoins to your Dream Market wallet address. For safety reasons the final bitcoin deposit confirmation will take about 30 minutes in average (3 confirmations), this is due to the bitcoin internal workings.

Here is a good tutorial about how to use Bitcoins: Getting started with Bitcoin

Protect yourself with PGP

To protect yourself you should prefer secure encrypted messaging with PGP. Especially when you leave your postal address you are encouraged to encrypt those information. Dream Market supports automatic encryption of your messages. All vendors support PGP and have specified a public PGP key on their profile. If you encrypt messages using their public key you can be sure that only the vendor can read you message and your postal address is safe from leakage to any organization, including Dream Market.

There are guides and tutorials about how to use PGP which you can find online.

Linux is the most secure operating system of these 3 listed operating systems from above, because Microsoft and Apple cannot be fully trusted and whose source code is not open source.

Escrow protection

Escrow is a safe method to order online and is used almost everywhere. When you order a product with the escrow method then the money is not directly transfered to the vendor after the checkout process, but it is locked. When you receive the package you finalize the order from you shopping cart page. With this step the vendor is paid.

Order process

After your bitcoin deposit has been confirmed you can order the desired product if your balance is not too low. The vendor will receive the order information instantly, no further action is required. However the vendor needs to be online to view the new order.

While you have open orders which have not yet been finalized you are required to check your messagebox regularly in case the vendor has open questions.

After you have received the package you have to finalize the order. With this step the escrow is released and the vendor is paid. Please leave adequate feedback and rating stars when finalizing the order. You can update the feedback and rating stars after you have finalized. When leaving feedback for an order you should only give negative feedback after you have contacted the vendor to give him a chance of resolving the issues.

In case of problems

If you do not receive the order after an adequate time you have the possibility to open a dispute. Please contact the vendor first before you open a dispute. Please be honest when you open a dispute, do not open a dispute if you have received the package. You will find the dispute link from your order detail page, which is linked in your cart view.

Vendors guideline

Vendor application

Registration as vendor requires a deposit of vendor bond, which is paid back when the vendor revokes his vendor status. Application for vendor status can be done with this link.

Forbidden products and services

Listing products

You can list products after you have applied for vendor status. Products are listed in the market after your vendor application has been approved. To add a product go to the "Manage Offers" page and click "Add offer". Product images should have the correct vendor name and date in it. One product can have multiple images.

Requesting FE (Finalize Early)

Asking customers for finalizing early is only allowed for verified vendors. Asking for finalize early should not be done without permission from support. Doing otherwise may result in suspended vendor account.
