Cardano Rumor Rundown July 19, 2022

Hey Everyone!

Let's go...

Newly covered today:

  1. Day 1 of the MuesliSwap Hungry Cows mint went down on July 18 with a very smooth whitelist and random selection process. I hope more projects choose to employ a mint process that looks like this whether whitelisted or not. Not having to worry about your keyboarding speed and connection latency during the request phase was very refreshing. https://nft.muesliswap.com/ https://twitter.com/MuesliSwapTeam/status/1549101020239859713 https://twitter.com/JacobNdelaRosa/status/1549046830914478080

Data points to a Bitcoin bottom, but one metric warns of a final drop to $14K

The bear market is far from over, but according to Glassnode, several metrics suggest that Bitcoin capitulation already occurred.

https://preview.redd.it/t64jbaxl5gc91.png?width=717&format=png&auto=webp&s=1bcc49b1a452c6d1fc11bd5767dcb7158abc6477

“When will it end?” is the question that is on the mind of investors who have endured the current crypto winter and witnessed the demise of multiple protocols and investment funds over the past few months.

This week, Bitcoin (BTC) once again finds itself testing resistance at its 200-week moving average and the real challenge is whether it can push higher in the face of multiple headwinds or if the price will trend down back into the range it has been trapped in since early June.

According to the most recent newsletter from on-chain market intelligence firm Glassnode, "duration" is the main difference between the current bear market and previous cycles and many on-chain metrics are now comparable to these historical drawdowns.

One metric that has proven to be a reliable indicator of bear market bottoms is realized price, which is the value of all Bitcoin at the price they were bought divided by the number of BTC in circulation.

Number of days Bitcoin price traded below the realized price. Source: Glassnode

As shown on the chart above, with the exception of the flash crash in March 2020, Bitcoin has traded below its realized price for an extended period of time during bear markets.

Glassnode said,

“The average time spent below the Realized Price is 197-days, compared to the current market with just 35-days on the clock.”

This would suggest that the current calls for an end of the crypto winter are premature because historical data suggests the market still has several months of sideways price action to go before the next major uptrend.

Will the bottom be closer to $14,000?

When it comes to what traders should be on the lookout for that would signify an end to the winter, Glassnode highlighted the Delta price and Balance price as “on-chain pricing models which tend to attract spot prices during late stage bears.”

As shown on the chart above, the previous major bear market lows were set after a “short-term wick down to the Delta price,” which is highlighted in green. A similar move in today’s market would suggest a BTC low near $14,215.

These bearish periods also saw the BTC price trade in an accumulation range “between the Balanced Price (range low) and the Realized Price (range high),” which is where the price currently finds itself.

One of the classic signs that a bear market is coming to an end has been a major capitulation event that exhausted the last remaining sellers.

While some are still debating whether or not this has occurred, Glassnode highlighted the on-chain activity during the June plunge to $17,600 as a possible sign that capitulation has indeed taken place.

At the time that BTC fell to $17,600, there was a total volume of 9.216 million BTC holding an unrealized loss. Following the capitullation event on June 18, a month of consolidation and a price rally to $21,200, this volume has now declined to 7.68 million BTC.

Glassnode said,

“What this suggests is that 1.539M BTC were last transacted (have a cost-basis) between $17.6k and $21.2k. This indicates that around 8% of the circulating supply has changed hands in this price range.”

Further evidence of capitulation having already taken place was the “staggering volume of BTC” that locked in a realized loss between May and July.

The collapse of Terra triggered a total realized loss of $27.77 billion while the June 18 plunge below the 2017 cycle all-time high resulted in a total realized loss of $35.5 billion.

Is this the end of the bear market?

One final metric that suggests capitulation has already occurred is the Adjusted Spent Output Profit Ratio (aSPOR), which compares the value of outputs at the time they are spent to when they were created.

According to Glassnode, when profitability is declining (as represented by the blue arrows), investors being to realize large losses which eventually leads to “a final waterfall moment of capitulation,” which is highlighted in red.

Glassnode said,

“The market eventually reaches seller exhaustion, prices start to recover, and investor pain starts to subside.”

In order to verify that capitulation has indeed taken place and accumulation is underway, Glassnode indicated that the aSOPR value would ideally need to recover back above 1.0.

Tony Hawk Partners With the Sandbox to Open a Skate Park in the Metaverse

Tony Hawk Takes Skateboarding to the Metaverse

More and more athletes are taking their activities to the metaverse for their fans to enjoy and connect with them in these virtual worlds. Tony Hawk, one of the most popular skateboarders in the world, has announced he will build a digital skateboarding park in the metaverse. The venue will be built in partnership with The Sandbox, an ethereum based metaverse experience, to create a park where players can take their NFTs and skateboard freely.

The skateboarder will also collaborate with Autograph, a high-profile NFT company co-founded by Tom Brady, to produce NFTs based on his most memorable moments and apparel, that fans will also be able to leverage in The Sandbox’s metaverse. This will not be the first foray of the artist into the NFT move, as he has released several NTF collections before, even accompanying some with physical skateboards.

About his next move, Hawk stated:

I have been a fan of new technology all of my life — from the first videogames and home computers with CGI capabilities — so I am fascinated by the metaverse, and excited to bring our culture into the virtual landscape of The Sandbox.

The skateboarder is an early cryptocurrency supporter, having purchased bitcoin back in 2012 after hearing about it in the now defunct Silkroad marketplace.

A Metaverse Hub for Celebrities and Brands

The Sandbox, a metaverse platform that is based on the Ethereum blockchain, is becoming a hub for celebrities and brands to explore the metaverse by launching experiences and digital representations of their products. The game has scored partnerships with Snoop Dogg, Adidas, The Walking Dead, Jamiroquai, Playboy, and others. Companies like Ubisoft and Square Enix have released some of their IPs in The Sandbox’s metaverse, bringing the Rabbids and Dungeon Siege to this digital world.

The company was reported to be mulling a new funding round that would bring $400 million dollars at a $4 billion valuation, according to sources. However, this has not materialized since the reports. The last capital influx that The Sandbox received happened in November when the company raised $93 million in its series B funding round.

If you have crypto in Coinbase you might want to transfer it out soon

Hey guys, lurker/used-to-watch-streams-but-not-really-anymore guy here. There's a lot of writing on the wall with Coinbase potentially being the next massive crypto exchange to stop withdrawals in the coming months. In the past few days they've cut affiliate programs, ended their Coinbase Pro program which offered lower fees for trading, and as we know they laid off a ton of employees. Just see here: https://finance.yahoo.com/video/crypto-coinbase-closes-affiliate-marketing-135047086.html

There's a lot of rumors and reading the tea leaves there's a likelihood that Coinbase will go under and you don't want to be left without being able to withdraw like what happened with Celsius users (crypto exchange/"bank"): https://fortune.com/2022/06/13/celsius-suspends-withdrawals-crypto-lender-market/

I know this subreddit has zero to do with Coinbase, but they were a long time sponsor for a lot of Ludwig's events and for other streamers as well. So it's very likely a lot of users here are Coinbase users. And I'm not going to tell you sell your bitcoin, sell your Ethereum, because that's not the discussion right now. But if you bought in and want to keep it, you should look into finding a different exchange and transferring before it's too late.

To be clear, I have no hard evidence of Coinbase going under, I could be completely wrong. And just so people know, I don't work for other exchanges, I'm not an ex-Coinbase employee, if you look at my history I'm pretty anti-crypto. I just know that Ludwig advertised for this specific exchange a lot, so a lot of his audience might be left holding the bag and even though he couldn't predict this and it would 100% not be his fault, I'm sure he'd feel terrible knowing he told you specifically to use them and then they screw you over. That's why I'm posting this.

Battle for the skies

The aerospace and travel industries are setting their sights on the Farnborough Air Show, which takes place this week for the first time since the pandemic. More than 80,000 people are expected to attend the five-day event, where more than a thousand exhibitors will showcase their products and aviation services. With demand for flights soaring this summer, much of the focus will be on manufacturing giants Boeing (NYSE:BA) and Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY), which hope to pick up some big orders as airline passenger numbers bounce back.

Backdrop: It's been a bruising past few years for the aviation titans, but Boeing is clearly coming into the contest on the back wheel. Even before the pandemic, the U.S. manufacturer was in crisis mode following two fatal crashes of the 737 MAX in 2018/19, and the plane is still awaiting approval to return to the Chinese market. Boeing is also dealing with quality issues related to its 787 Dreamliner (deliveries have been largely halted since late 2020), while it's unlikely that the stretched 737 MAX 10 variant - which is coming to Farnborough - will be certified by regulators by the end of the year.

On the other side of the aisle, Airbus has moved up to business class, according to aviation data provider Cirium, conquering nearly 60% of the narrow-body segment with its A320. The French planemaker has also scored 259 total orders this year, compared to the 186 of its U.S. rival. All those dynamics can be clearly seen in their stock prices, with Boeing shares plunging 60% since the Paris Air Show in June 2019 (which alternates every year with Farnborough) and Airbus shares off by 20% over the same period.

Go deeper: The aviation titans will be asked how well they can make good on delivery commitments as engine and parts shortages become the latest challenge in ramping up output. Make sure to tune in at the end of the week as there are generally last-minute announcements that can change the order tally and possibly offer Boeing an opportunity to turn the corner. Decarbonization strategies will also be in the spotlight at the show, with several panels focusing on sustainable fuels, low-emissions technology and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

Chip funding

The Senate could vote on a slimmed-down measure to boost the U.S. semiconductor industry as soon as this week as lawmakers struggle to compromise on broader legislation targeting Chinese competitiveness. The scaled-back bill would likely provide $52B in grants, tax credits and other financial incentives to build out the American chip sector, but until now, it has been held up over R&D subsidies, as well as the possibility of it being attached to a broader reconciliation package. Congress will need to kick things into high gear before the August recess, which is only several weeks away.

Quote: "If we don't pass this, we're going to wake up, other countries are going to have these [chip] investments, and we're going to say, 'why didn't we do it?'" U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo declared, urging lawmakers to pass the legislation. "We want as robust of a bill as possible, but all options are on the table because we're out of time."

Funding is even more critical to corporate investment plans, with Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) recently threatening to ditch its ambitious $20B foundry project in Ohio if the bill remains in limbo. "We've made super clear to McConnell, to the Democrats, to the Republicans, that if this doesn't pass, I will change my plans," announced CEO Pat Gelsinger. "The Europeans have moved forward very aggressively, and they're ready to give us the incentives that allow us to move forward." According to the Semiconductor Industry Association, the U.S. share of global chip-making capacity has tumbled from 37% in 1990 to 12% at the present.

Should you buy chip stocks? Market direction has been uncertain in recent weeks, though some buyers seem to be keen on the advancing chip legislation. Last Thursday, it was revealed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her husband, exercised 200 call options (20,000 shares) in Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), which is one of the world's largest semiconductor companies. The stake, which could be worth up to $5M, comes at a time when Congress is debating whether its members and spouses should be allowed to trade individual stocks, though a vote on such bills has not yet been scheduled. Global health emergency?

As the number of monkeypox cases rises in the U.S., requests for vaccines are increasing, and in many areas, there are even reports of demand greatly outstripping supply. In response, the federal government has ordered an additional 2.5M Jynneos doses from Bavarian Nordic (OTCPK:BVNKF), which is the only FDA-approved product against monkeypox. As of July 15, there were 1,814 confirmed cases across the country, with all but seven U.S. states recording cases of the disease.

Explainer: Monkeypox is an orthopoxvirus that is mostly spread by close physical contact and results in similar symptoms to smallpox. People who contract the virus experience flu-like conditions and a blistery rash that lasts anywhere from two to four weeks. A very small percentage of infected people develop sepsis or other life-threatening reactions (only three people have died worldwide from the current outbreak).

The World Health Organization is set to reconvene its expert committee this week to decide whether monkeypox now constitutes a global health emergency. Back in June, a majority of the expert panel felt the situation had not met that threshold, which could release additional resources to combat the crisis. There have been a total of six "Public Health Emergency of International Concern" declarations since 2009, otherwise known as PHEIC, with the last one being proclaimed for COVID-19 in 2020.

Outlook: Even if declared a PHEIC, monkeypox is unlikely to become as devastating as the coronavirus pandemic. It's much less contagious due to its "person-to-person" transmission (rather than spreading through the air). It has also been mostly observed in young urban men who identify as members of the LGBT community, suggesting that it won't cross age and other demographics so easily. Additionally, the fatality rate is less than one death per every 1,000 adult cases, which in perspective, is lower than the percentage of unvaccinated people who die after getting COVID.

Over in Colombo

Things aren't looking better in Sri Lanka as acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe issued orders late Sunday for a fresh state of emergency. The specific legal provisions of the edict have yet to be announced, but in the past it has been used to deploy the military and dampen public protests. It comes ahead of Wednesday's vote in parliament to elect a new president, after Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to the Maldives (and then Singapore) to escape a widespread uprising against his government.

The candidates: As six-time prime minister, Wickremesinghe is one of the top contenders to take on the presidency, but many protesters want him gone and further unrest could ensue if he is elected. Other leading candidates are Sajith Premadasa, leader of the main opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya party, as well as Dullas Alahapperuma, a senior ruling lawmaker who previously served as former Cabinet Minister of Information and Mass Media.

Stable leadership will need to be in place before the country can negotiate with the IMF over a bailout to shore up the island's economy. Sri Lanka ran out of money for fuel imports in May, its inflation rate topped 50% in June and it declared bankruptcy in early July. The country is also heavily indebted to China, Japan and India, and recent restructuring talks during the G20 Finance Ministers meeting in Bali, Indonesia, did not appear to yield too much progress.

As mentioned previously on WSB: Sri Lanka could be the first domino to fall in a global economic crisis set to envelop many poorly-managed developing countries. Pakistan is having major problems with its debt, as well as a number of African and Latin nations, spelling trouble across the emerging markets. "With the low-income countries, debt risks and debt crises are not hypothetical," World Bank Chief Economist Carmen Reinhart declared. "We're pretty much already there."

How many Blockchain Events are held worldwide, and what are they for?

Blockchains are developing at a tremendous pace, but many people still do not trust them. As a result, hundreds of events are held every year to popularize the technology and introduce new projects. All of them may differ in subject, audience, and numerous other ways, but they are united in their contribution towards the crypto industry's growth and development.

Who do these events attract?

Every year, Blockchain Events are visited by thousands of people around the world, those who are interested in understanding existing trends, looking for new technological solutions, and getting acquainted with the latest industry developments.

Often, visitors to Blockchain Events are:

  • Crypto enthusiasts;
  • Company owners looking for new solutions;
  • Investors aiming to spend money in the industry.

In addition, here you can quickly get acquainted with:

  • Technical and IT directors;
  • Telecommunication service providers;
  • Developers and start-ups;
  • OEMs;
  • Potential investors;
  • Venture capitalists, and many others.

Over 250 speakers can give lectures during a single large event. These often strive to present their respective companies' work or share forecasts and observations. The main goal is to unite the crypto community, make new connections and discuss critical topics.

What topics are raised at Blockchain Events?

The main agenda is undoubtedly the growth of the crypto industry. New technologies that contribute to the development and popularization of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polkadot, Metaverse, and other blockchains are the usual point of discussion. Special attention is also given to security issues and protection against an ever-increasing number of crypto scammers.

Many imagine that Blockchain Events revolve solely around the news and innovations in the world of cryptocurrency. Blockchains, however, have long ceased to be used for transactions only. They have found applications in almost all modern industries, from logistics and tourism to pharmaceuticals and much more. Many developers work to implement solutions in various areas of human life and even artificial intelligence. These are most likely ready to share their experience and expertise at the next major Blockchain Event.

Thus, a representative of almost any industry, from crypto to engineering, will be able to find something useful there and make new, promising acquaintances.

It is assumed that, due to the onset of the "crypto winter," there will be many events this year, where discussions will be centered around stabilizing the situation and supporting crypto companies during the general crisis.

How many Blockchain Events are there?

The number of Blockchain Events is snowballing against the backdrop of technological popularization. Thus, 327 significant events are planned for 2022 and 2023, with hundreds of smaller events forming around them. So, from the end of May 2022 until December 31, 2022, a total of 277 events will be held, while 50 events have already been announced for 2023.

These events are held in 48 countries and 99 cities (excluding online-only conferences). Research reveals that events also occur on different days of the week, with 229 events (70.03%) taking place on weekdays, 90 events (27.52%) schedules for Saturday or Sunday, and 8 events (2.45%) that did not yet announce any exact dates.

Approximately 1 large event and about 100 minor events occur every day.

These numbers are only expected to grow in the following year.

LATEST CRYPTO HEADLINES OF THE WEEK - 18th of July 2022

In todays latest crypto news we are going over Michael Saylor saying ETH is security, Coinbase liquidity issues, heated ETH reddit debate and many more things you can read down below!

Australian central bank governor favors private sector crypto technology

Australian central bank Governor Phillip Lowe said that a private solution “is going to be better” for cryptocurrency as long as risks are mitigated through regulation.

Lowe commented at a recent G20 finance meeting in Indonesia. Reuters reported on July 17 that officials from other countries discussed the impact of stablecoins and decentralized finance (DeFi) on global financial systems.

Recent risks associated with stablecoins can largely be chalked up to depegging events. In May, the Terra USD stablecoin UST, which has since changed to Terra Classic USD (USTC), lost its peg and drove down the value of the entire Terra Classic ecosystem. It caused a multi-billion dollar cascade effect leading to Tether (USDT) and the DEI stablecoin briefly depegging.

Lowe suggested that strong regulations or even state backing could help mitigate the risks to the public. cointelegraph. com

Bitcoin hodling activity resembles previous market bottoms: Glassnode

The majority of Bitcoin has been “hodled” for at least three months in behavior bearing a striking resemblance to previous Bitcoin market bottoms, says blockchain analytics firm Glassnode.

In a July 16 tweet, Glassnode noted that more than 80% of the total U.S. dollar (USD)-denominated wealth invested in Bitcoin has not been touched for at least three months.

Bitcoin’s price is $21,013 at the time of writing, down almost 70% from its all-time high of $69,044 in November 2021. The current price puts around 45% of Bitcoin holders with an on-paper loss, according to crypto intelligence firm IntoTheBlock.

According to the Glassnode chart, other times that saw similar levels of Bitcoin hodling were during the end of the bear markets of 2012, 2015, and 2018.

Last week, Coinbase's head of institutional research, David Duong, wrote in a July 12 report titled “The Elusive Bottom” that on-chain data suggests that recent BTC selling has been carried out “almost exclusively” by short-term speculators. Long-term BTC holders “have not been selling into the market weakness,” he added. cointelegraph. com

$248M stablecoins flow out of Coinbase as community refutes exchange liquidity issues

Rumors surfaced Friday night that Coinbase could face liquidity issues following leaked emails stating that it would suspend its affiliate program. Business Insider reported that they received emails stating;

“This has not been an easy decision, nor was it made lightly, but, due to crypto market conditions and the outlook for the remainder of 2022, Coinbase is unable to continue supporting incentivized traffic to its platform.”

Some took to Twitter to claim the decision was indicative of liquidity problems for the top US exchange. Kurt Wuckert Jr of CoinGeek tweeted that the suspension of the affiliate program, in combination with other decisions made by Coinbase over the past several weeks, signifies a “liquidity crisis” is looming.

On July 15, around 50% of stablecoins on Coinbase Pro left the exchange, according to on-chain data from CryptoQuant; the total value came to approximately $248 million. The percentage stablecoin outflow was significantly higher on Coinbase than on other exchanges such as Binance. Only around 1% of stablecoin reserves left Binance over the same period, but the tokens had a similar value at just under $300 million. cryptoslate. com

Ethereum’s centralized dApps may overshadow the decentralization of proof-of-stake

A lively debate on Reddit Friday resurfaced the discussion of whether the computing infrastructure built on top of Ethereum is too centralized. According to on-chain data, approximately 32% of all Ethereum nodes operate on Amazon AWS servers. However, Amazon claims the number to be closer to 25%.

Since 2020 little has changed regarding the improvement of node decentralization within Ethereum. However, Pomp’s tweet is not entirely accurate.

Centralization of Ethereum

The below image shows the percentage of hosted Ethereum nodes running on AWS. At first glance, this looks highly concerning as it goes against the decentralization narrative in Ethereum.

Yet, the chart ignores nodes running on private machines instead of cloud-hosted servers. Hosting service providers facilitate around 67% of all nodes, and 29% are located in residential settings. cryptoslate. com

MicroStrategy’s Michael Saylor says Ethereum is a security

In an interview with Altcoin Daily, MicroStrategy’s CEO Michael Saylor said Ethereum (ETH) is security.

According to Saylor, the fact that Ethereum was first issued via an initial coin offering proves it is not a commodity.

“There’s a management team. There was a pre-mine. There’s a hard fork. There are continual hard forks.”

He also talked about Ethereum’s difficulty bomb and how it keeps getting postponed every six months, which serves to prove the asset is a security.

If the Ethereum difficulty bomb went off, it would disincentivize miners and mark the network’s full transition into a proof of stake network.

Michael Saylor classifies most crypto assets as securities

In Saylor’s opinion, a cryptocurrency can only be a commodity if there is no issuer and no one is making any decisions on the network.

Saylor said,

“If you look at most of these cryptos, where they have hard fork after hard fork after hard fork, the problem with a hard fork is changing the protocol means that some development team is making a decision, and if you can change the protocol in a material way, you can change the monetary protocol. A hard fork can change the issuance pattern, or it can change the value of something. So that makes an investment contract under securities law.” cryptoslate.com

First Mover Asia: Bitcoin Dips Below $21K; Why the Current Bear Market Differs

Bitcoin's four-day winning streak snapped on Sunday with the largest cryptocurrency tumbling below $21,000.

Bitcoin was recently trading at about $20,800, down more than a percentage point over the past 24 hours, although still higher than it stood before starting its mini-rally on Wednesday. Market observers see the crypto continuing to trade in the $18,000 to $22,000 range that it has maintained for a month, at least until investors have a clearer sign whether central banks can lick inflation without casting the global economy into recession.

"While Bitcoin saw positive momentum this week, it remains range-bound when you take a broader view, and is still struggling to cross the $22,000 resistance," Joe DiPasquale, the CEO of crypto asset manager BitBull Capital, wrote to CoinDesk.

No, you don't need to watch another productivity tutorial. Here's why.

Last month, when Tiago Forte finally published 'Building a Second Brain', I felt a twinge of anxiety. I followed him on Twitter and knew it was coming out. I didn't want to try to implement his methods again.

Stephen Covey tells us that we need to 'sharpen the saw' to be a highly effective person. Next thing, I found myself watching an Ali Abdaal breakdown of CODE and PARA. Ironically, toying with one's productivity system is a much lower leverage activity rather simply using your current system to do your best work. If you already have a system which you trust, then chances are that you are being manipulated by a type of productivity FOMO.

For anyone who feels like they were late to Bitcoin (everyone), there is a pervasive sense of FOMO: I won't miss the next event of its kind. Tiago Forte paints the tragedy of the intellectual who reads 72 books a year, listens to 6 podcasts a week and retains nothing. This is something we all fear. And when he uses investment parlance to tell us that our ideas can compound with the right system, our heart swoons. Who wouldn't want 7% ROI on some wry observation dictated onto Drafts?

The learning curve required to learn a new system or software (Obsidian, Roam, anyone?) is often much greater than the time which the system is designed to save.

So, if you find yourself struggling with productivity FOMO like I was, just remember:

Life is short. Don't spend your best years sat in front of a productivity tutorial with a furrowed brow. Take it easy, trust your system and do cool stuff.
