The worst month of my life

Well it all started when i left my job. It made me want to kill myself working third shift and after two years of promises id be back to the first shift i was hired for "soon," i had, enough. I was making more money trading bitcoins anyway.. no problems.. well then my apartment got robbed, as a paxful trader i never kept much bitcoin and had all my cash in my apartment..

now its just gone. someone trashed my truck when i left it sitting in a parking lot Downton. It was a beater anyway but i needed it because that week my cars tire exploded on the highway and its still on a donu.

Then i thought i had unemployment coming but the day before itd get paid my old employer decided to fight it so there goes that money some identity thieves try and steal my tax return after my info is posted on some russian dark web forum. great. so thats held up.

my gram has thyroid cancer so im probably gonna lose her.

I had gotten over ambitious with my bitcoin stuff and had begun the process to trademark abd incorporate and had lots of cash at my house because id get paid, cash out and start the flip over again.

Im antisocial as shit since quitting heroin 3 years ago and my anxiety is on another planet right now. i gotta deal with all this at once and im fucking buried up to my buts in credit card debt student loans and personal loans. phone calls from the baks and cards send me into panic attacks.

I bought heroin to try and kill myself and came close but woke up. im glad i did, but idk where to go from here. i really need monetary assistance. $200 is what i started my btc operation with as a hobby and was profiting more than a minimum wage job in a few days. any donations would be greatly greatly appreciated. BTC/Paypal/Chime/Greendot i have a lot of paypment processors due to the business

Hey everyone,

Posting this here since there was a lively discussion related to the privacy aspects of this in the r/compsci thread.

I've been working for almost a year now on a platform I call the Ultranet that I'm planning on launching in two weeks on February 25th at 12pm Pacific Time (signup here to be notified). It's a marketplace platform that is fully-decentralized, private, and censorship-resistant.

It works by having each user who runs the software download and store a cryptographically-secured copy of all of the listings, orders, ratings, and all other marketplace data through a concept I introduce in the paper called a "block pool." This means that as long as a single node somewhere in the world is running the Ultranet software, all data, including all listings and all reputation data, will be preserved. This is in stark contrast to virtually all platforms that exist today, which are subject to censorship of listings and/or outright take-down, the latter of which results in all reputation data being lost. Moreover, the Ultranet achieves censorship-resistance and privacy (it's pseudo-anonymous like Bitcoin) while maintaining feature parity and user experience parity with existing centralized marketplaces. It also introduces Ultra, a hyper-deflationary cryptocurrency that is burned every time an order is placed on the system and by merchants in order to promote their listings, resulting in increasing scarcity over time (i.e. hyper-deflation). Importantly, the use of a native cryptocurrency allows the value of the network to accrue to its users rather than a privileged few, while also giving people an incentive to use the system early on (thus helping to solve the "platform chicken and egg problem"). Finally, the software has a built-in fully-decentralized exchange mechanism I introduce in the paper called "interchange" that allows users to purchase Ultra using Bitcoin or Monero without any third parties involved, along with a fully-decentralized end-to-end encrypted messaging platform.

I worked really hard on this because I really believe that the direction society is headed under the dominance of "surveillance capitalism" needs to be challenged somehow, and because I thought all of the existing attempts at disrupting things weren't sufficient. As such, having invested a lot of time and energy into trying to engineer a better way, I think the Ultranet and the concepts I introduce in the paper and in the software itself can at least serve as a guide to get us started down a serious path toward a more open and more democratic platform ecosystem.

I'm launching the Ultranet in two weeks on February 25th at 12pm Pacific Time, at which point I'm going to make the software available for download on the ultranet.one website. I was going to wait until then to make my first post, but I thought publicizing it a bit before I release the final version of the software could give me a chance to address any last-minute concerns people might have about the first iteration (which is why I'm also releasing the code today; see below).

There's genuinely nothing quite like American optimism. `I know, I know... the done thing is to shit-talk America in threads like this, but speaking as a Brit, that's what really makes the USA special and relatively unique in terms of national histories. America is a country that's (at least theoretically) built on the idea of equality and justice quite literally for all. You had the sheer brass balls to put a big ol' statue up at one of the most trafficked entryways in the world -- yes, yes, OP's momma notwithstanding -- that literally asked the world to give you its tired, its poor, its huddled masses yearning to breathe free. You built an entire mythology around the idea that, by pulling together and with a little elbow grease, you can make something of yourself no matter where you start from.` Is it true? No, not completely -- not for a lot of people. But it *is* important. It's a hardscrabble world out there, and the idea that Americans are better because they'll do the right thing, the honourable thing, the *decent* thing no matter how hard that might be makes things a little bit brighter. It's important that the first thing countless immigrants got to see wasn't a display of America's power and strength and prosperity but of America's guidance: a torchlight in the darkness. That most mythological of figures, Superman, espouses the idea of Truth, Justice and the *American* Way for a reason. That takes me back :) - So much has happened since that first comment... I was in a pretty dark place when I started looking for laughs with this. I had just finished cleaning out my fathers house after his death... official cause of death was \"unknown due to decomposition\" and I had been tasked to clean out his house where his body had been found. It was 100+ degrees around his house when he died and he didn't have an A/C unit. His body decomposed quickly and pretty much melted into the floor. The mattress he had died on was obviously removed... and so was the floor under it... and then the dirt under the subfloor needed to be excavated... I could never get that smell of death out of my mind and had to deal with it for the 30 days while I packed up his belongings. While cleaning out his house I found 3 suicide notes in envelopes next to several empty pill bottles... also a book on different ways of committing suicide earmarked. Most of his belongings had to be tossed out as everything smelled like death... I wasn't in a good financial place and was living in an old RV parked on some abandoned property. It was in the old RV sitting at the \"kitchen table\" when this all started - and after that first comment I laughed out loud for about 10 minutes. ` Things got better for me for a while... Bitcoin went through the roof and I had managed to get my hands on a few - so when it hit 15k or so I sold them. Bought myself a good car, sold that RV, and moved into a rental house. From there life has had it's ups and downs but that was def. a low point for me when this started... a VERY low point. In a weird way the entire Undertaker thing was a way for me to laugh and smile - something I didn't do much back then. Anyway, I know most of you are expecting this end a certain way but I wanted to get serious for a minute and mention what all this means to me. That's really sad. Like, really sad. I'm all for having hobbies and doing what you enjoy, but sitting on your ass 10 hours a day, *every day*, is downright pitiful. I love video games as much as the next person but I wish gamers would stop glorifying this kind of activity. It's not healthy nor impressive. Working 70 hours a week is extremely unhealthy, which is basically what this guy did, and he didnt even get paid.

Bitcoin Unlimited Response to the Claim that our organisation supports BSV

We recently ran a survey of the Bitcoin Cash community because your opinions are extremely important to us. Thank you to all of you who gave us feedback, it was much appreciated. If any of you would still like to complete the survey it can be found HERE. We gained lots of useful insights from this feedback and we intend to use this to offer even more value to the BCH ecosystem.

Some Issues We Need To Clarify

The survey did also bring to light a number of issues which require some clarity. One key issue that a number of respondents mentioned was that they felt BU was in support of BSV or BTC. We felt that this was something we needed to correct ASAP as this could not be further from the truth. From the moment the BCH was created (and even long before), BU has been working tirelessly in support of BCH through many different initiatives that were voted on by the BU membership. BU continues to have 100% of its resources devoted to supporting the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem.

Bitcoin Unlimited operates through a voting process whereby members of the organisation propose BUIPs (BU improvement proposals) which are then voted on by the membership. Proposals that receive the required number of votes in favour are considered to be successful and the organisation will support them. In this way Bitcoin Unlimited makes itself both guided by and accountable to its membership.

It is true that some (a minority) of BU members are supporters of BitcoinSV, and this can cause some conflict. This is unfortunately one of the many negative artefacts from a split happening in a decentralised currency. Even so, the Bitcoin Unlimited organisation has remained not only focused and functional, but also strongly in support of Bitcoin Cash. In fact, the BU membership and the organisation’s governance model has shown time and time again that BU is fully in support of BCH - a peer to peer electronic cash system. The voting results from the relevant BUIPs support this fact. Below you will find the voting results for all BUIP related to the BCH/BSV issue, and you will see that at every opportunity BU as an organisation has voted in support of BCH.

Where This Confusion Has Come From

We speculate that some of the confusion also comes from two sources. First, the fact that BUIP098 required BU to implement some features proposed by nChain that became part of BSV. BU implemented these features (after a BUIP was approved) for the miners to vote on them in the hopes this would avoid a split. Post-fork no BSV related commits were made and these features were removed. Additionally, many of these features are on the BCH roadmap (scalability, etc), so supporting implementation and compromise actually would further BCH’s goals.

Second, BU officers posted statements (in their own capacity, not as official BU statements) arguing to delay or stop the proposed CTOR feature. Dispute over a specific feature cannot and should not be construed as support for another blockchain.

It was important to also include BUIP127 “Partially re-weight 50% BTC to BCH” in this list (which was voted down) as this has been cause for some to claim BU does not support BCH, even in light of the significant evidence to the contrary. This specific issue requires a much more detailed explanation and therefore deserves it’s own article, which is to be published shortly.

We hope this has hopefully cleared up some of the confusion within the community, and shows BU’s continued commitment to Bitcoin Cash.
