DragonEx Roadshow Recap

In support of our new partnership, DragonEx Exchange invited Kambria Team members to participate in an exclusive online roadshow with both the DragonEx English and Chinese-speaking communities.

The event featured Kambria community managers Annie Wang (CH) and William Ryan (EN). Both sessions were focused and very active. Here is a recap of the conversation with William in the English channel; for clarity, the original text has been lightly edited for grammar and spelling.

Do you have any idea about Kambria? Today’s roadshow is mainly about Kambria’s project progress. and its future planning.

I understand the bulk of the conversation is going on in the DragonEx Chinese channel, but in case there are any English speakers here who are interested, we were recently listed on DragonEx. I met the team in May in New York City, and was very impressed with their professionalism. They are awesome people to know, and I am even more excited to now be working with DragonEx. They are a great exchange!

I wanna know, how is Kambria different from other AI projects?

Kambria is an open innovation platform designed to cut down and drastically reduce the time and cost it takes to innovate robotics, AI, and other frontier technologies. Kambria allows for innovators to collaborate on every aspect of the innovation process. So a company can host a bounty to utilize developers to help them build their ideas. This also allows for innovators to modularize their ideas and allow other innovators to utilize their work, and earn KAT in the process.

Can the Kambria project run without blockchain?

Kambria’s Open Innovation Platform is designed around the KAT token. It technically could work without a blockchain, but it likely would not because we all know that incentives are the basis for the work that most people do. So we use KAT to power the network, pay bounties, pay developers, companies, and innovators who contribute to the network.

The best way to achieve this is to use a decentralized blockchain with smart contracts. No one would contribute without incentives. That is the backbone to any healthy economy. That is why we believe we do need a token.

But how advanced is the project in terms of progress?

Currently, the features that we are focusing on are building out Github support to allow developers to import the githubs to build out the Kambria codebase, which will be utilized in the Kambria codebase, the backbone of the platform. Additionally, we are creating innovation hubs across the world that will allow roboticists and AI developers to come in and innovate new products.

What if a big company copies Kambria? Are there any barriers to competition?

There are currently no other companies who are doing what we are doing. Our platform encompasses every single aspect of the innovation process from concept, to design, to manufacturing, to sourcing materials, to production, to delivery. We will also not open source all of our intellectual property. Because of our experience with OhmniLabs, Kambria’s sister company, we have discovered ways to build robots using 3-D printing far cheaper than most have heard of.

Could you please introduce your team members to us?

Yes. My name is William, and I am the American Community Manager, and I have with me Annie Wang, who is our Chinese Community Manager.

Let me get you some info on the rest of the team. Let’s start with the top :)

Dr. Thuc Vu — Co-Founder & CEO — AI & Game Theory  Dr. Thuc is a serial entrepreneur, with multiple company acquisitions, the last one by Google. He has deep expertise in game theory, tournament design and multi-agent systems. He earned his Ph.D. from Stanford and BS from Carnegie Mellon, both in computer science. Dr. Thuc is a social entrepreneur in Vietnam, involved in several community projects.

Dr. Thuc Vu, first of all, is just incredible to work with. He is the nicest man, but he’s also very talented. He is also a very generous person who sows back into the communities around him. He has created several foundations in the world to “give back” to people, including his very own VietSeeds Foundationin Vietnam that helps poor Vietnamese children get a great college education. He sold one of his companies to Google, and then created OhmniLabs, which is Kambria’s sister company. You can visit the OhmniLabs.com website for more information.

Here’s a pic of our founders with the OhmniLabs robot.

Our CTO, Jared Go, met Dr. Thuc Vu in college. They both attended Stanford University and Carnegie Mellon together.

Jared Go — Co-Founder & CTO — Robotics — Jared is an avid maker and roboticist, previously CTO and founding member at a networks startup. He has extensive experience in blockchain, AI, real-time graphics, VR, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Jared is a Stanford Graduate Fellow, and has a BS in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.

Tingxi Tan — Co-Founder & CPO — Blockchain & Cloud Computing — Tingxi has a background in cloud computing, network infrastructure and distributed system design. He has been active in Crypto Investment since 2010. He was responsible for building the global scale cloud infrastructure at a networks startup. He graduated from MSc Computer Science U of Calgary and BSc Applied Math Western University.

Dr. Tra Vu — COO — Operations & Infrastructure — Tra has a background in Financial and Civil Engineering. She earned her Master’s in Financial Engineering and her PhD in Transportation Planning & Engineering from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Tra currently teaches at her alma mater and was responsible for leading her previous company in designing the first city-wide Transit Signal Priority system in New York City.

Tingxi, Dr. Tra Vu, and Jared are also just fantastic people to work with. The team is not only wildly talented, but also very pleasantly nice. It’s refreshing to see.

Is artificial intelligence a moral issue? How can I overcome this problem?

I believe it could be; however, it is up to us how we build such technologies. In our open collaboration system, everyone has the ability to solve this problem. If you want to solve it, you simply can participate in building it ethically.

Is the Kambria Innovation Platform open now in public?

Yes. The Open Innovation Platform was soft-launched in September 2018, and we are preparing for a full release this year. You can check out the platform here: https://app.kambria.io

I think artificial intelligence is a big trend: very good. Is there a potential market now? What are the plans for the Kambria project in the future?

AI is one of the fastest growing technologies in the frontier space. We already have hundreds of developers ready to begin working on the Kambria Open Innovation Platform, which is why we are so eager to finish our full launch of the platform, as well as our codebase. We are not far away. The full launch will be this year.

In addition, we are opening five innovation hubs across the globe, the first in Silicon Valley, California. We also working with major universities, including Stanford and Carnegie Mellon, to host hackathons in collaboration with the International Data Engineering and Science Association (IDEAS). Additionally, Thuc created the VietAI Alliance, which is dedicated solely to AI development. There will be several more of these that work with governments and universities in many different countries

I’m just a robotics engineer, but with no knowledge in Blockchain. How can I manage your platform? In our case, we have a team of robotics engineers and AI programmers, but they have no knowledge about Blockchain.

Follow up question: Do you have an infrastructure already in place?

The great news is that many roboticists such as yourself are not familiar with blockchain, and that’s OK! You don’t need to know how the engine of a car works in order to be able to drive it. It’s the same idea. Much of the blockchain underpinnings will be taken care of for you so that you can focus on innovation. Blockchain will primarily serve as the payment vehicle for bounties, services, and other functions on the network, such as staking coins, but the actual building of the product will be very familiar to you.

We do have an infrastructure ready and proven to be HIGHLY effective. Because of our experience with OhmniLabs, we have a “tried and true” method that we will allow other projects, such as yours, to utilize, and not just ours, but everyone else’s that uses our platform. It truly is open innovation for everyone.

I hope that the Kambria project will be carried forward in the future. I want to ask if the Kambria project is an artificial intelligence platform. Can Kambria help people with disabilities? They really need this project.

Yes!!! We love this. One of the verticals that we are focusing on is healthcare. Also, we build consumer robots, and robotic arms, which are very important for helping disabled people. It’s one of the use cases we are most passionate about. That is what robotics is for after all — making human life more comfortable and easier.

One of our robots (potentially) helped save an elderly woman’s life who had fallen. Her family was able to find her quickly and easily, preventing any further damage.

Is the Kambria Platform open now in public?

The platform is open to the public. Currently, you can vote for bounties, hackathons, buy robotic development kits, and explore the codebase, but there is much, much more coming in the short term this year. You may find it at https://app.kambria.io

Is Kambria currently based on ETH, and has Kambria considered the subsequent rise of the public chain.

Yes, we are based on ETH, but we are blockchain agnostic. If ETH, for any reason, cannot scale, we will look for a more functional chain.

Yes, ETH has been criticized for its slow processing speed. Has the Kambria project considered EOS?

We have considered EOS, and that would certainly be on our radar as one of the potential chains to move to, if necessary.

Could you tell us the history of Kambria, I am very interested in it!

Surely! Our founders started a robotics company in 2015. It was built upon the premise that to really accelerate adoption of robotics in the homes, a new type of company was needed. Being far away from home ourselves, they could relate to the need for affordable robots that bring families closer. So they set out to design robots with modular components, and utilize lean, toolless manufacture. To close the cost gap, they were ultra-focused on iteration speed. Reusability and integration were the cornerstones of their fabrication process, allowing for orders of magnitude, less capital spent, and a fraction of the development time.

Being able to foster an open collaborative ecosystem, where every contribution can easily be shared, manufactured, and implemented, will be revolutionary. Companies can benefit from the collective contribution from the community to build custom applications without having to employ teams of PhDs. End users can enjoy the higher quality of life potentially afforded by more available robot products and services. A combination of reduced costs, cutting-edge technologies, and swift delivery will spur rapid adoption of the Kambria platform by companies, developers, and manufacturers. This cycle of innovation will pave the way for the next wave of robots to provide immense value for people across the world.

Ohmni has achieved good results in the market, and the architecture behind it is indispensable. However, OhmniLabs development was not easy. Built from scratch, the establishment of laboratories, and the search for supply chain production, robotic startups was very difficult. In the difficult process of exploring Ohmni, an idea gradually formed: since there are so many barriers in the field of robot development, why not create an open platform where development, purchase, research, investment, and other needs coexist? It not only brings together talents from all sides but also promotes the development of robotics. In that thought proces, Kambria was born!

We named the platform Kambria, after the Cambrian Explosion, 500 million years ago, when an accelerated evolutionary rate gave rise to biodiversity and abundance. We believe this platform will be the catalyst for a similar explosion in intelligent robotics.

How many people are there in the Kambria project? Is there a blockchain related person?

Yes, our CPO is Tingxi Tan, has extensive knowledge in blockchain development. Additionally, we have a wide array of blockchain and full-stack developers. In total, our full-time staff is 20 people and growing. There are also many part-time employees as well! You can find most of them on our LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/company/kambria/

While we are technically a global company, our two main “home bases” are in Silicon Valley and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where much of the team is from. OhmniLabs is also in Silicon Valley.

Our advisor list is also quite extensive. I will list them here:

Prof. Manuela Veloso — AI & Robotics — Manuela Veloso is the Herbert A. Simon University Professor in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. Professor Veloso will be the Robotics and AI judge on the Kambria platform.

Simon Seojoon Kim — HASHED — Simon Seojoon Kim is CEO and founding partner of Hashed, a leading crypto fund based in South Korea. He is a Blockchain evangelist and organizer of Hashed Lounge, a premier Blockchain Seoul meetup community.

Loi Luu — Kyber Network — Loi Luu is a researcher working on cryptocurrencies, smart contract security and distributed consensus algorithms. He is also a regular invited speaker at Bitcoin and Ethereum workshops such as DevCon2, EDCON. Loi believes in the force of the Ethereum and Blockchain technology.

Roger Lim — NEO Global Capital — Roger Lim is an experienced angel and blockchain investor. He is the Founding Partner of NEO Global Capital and an advisor for projects like Bluzelle, Qlink, CoinFi, Thekey, Tomocoin, 0Chain, Switcheo, Open Platform, and nOS.

Long Vuong — Tomochain — Long Vuong is CEO and founder of Tomochain, a public blockchain infrastructure providing an innovative solution to the scalability problem with the Ethereum blockchain. He is often invited as guest speaker of many reputable blockchain events around the globe. Long and Tomochain will also be partnering with Kambria to develop an educational certification program in blockchain and AI.

George Li — WeTrust — George is an ex-Googler who previously co-founded CottonBrew, a Stanford StartX computer vision company. George has helped connect us with influencers and market movers in the crypto space.

May I know some recent news about this project?

In addition to our new Innovation Hubs, we launched our KAT token in December. It is currently listed on DragonEx, KuCoin, and Bitmart Exchanges. We also recently hosted an incredible event this last November where the Winklevoss Twins, and Joe Lonsdale, and several other high-level venture capitalists were in attendance. I will get you the video! :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8y4MxyAvTc&feature=youtu.be — Enjoy! I know we did.

The Vietnamese government also attended our November event called Innovation, Community & Impact. It was a very big deal. We wrote several articles recapping the event if you’d like to read about it. I will drop the links from our latest post that contains all of our best top ten articles for last year.

https://medium.com/kambria-network/kambria-2018-beyond-9820242c86c1

Within that article, you can find a ton of information about our project.

Great, I hope that the Kambria project will be carried forward in the future.

Thank you! We want to change the world, and we are unique enough to do it. There is nothing in the world like Kambria. We aim to make frontier technologies WAY cheaper and easier to build. An estimated 85% percent of the work being done is considered to be “wasted effort.” Because much of the work is done in silos, that means almost everyone is doing “double work.”

We can modularize everything and allow the different pieces to be applied, thus saving a huge amount of time in the development process. Why create something from scratch when someone else has already perfected it?

Do you build great motors? AI logic? Robotic arms? You can allow others to use your innovations to build theirs, and earn KAT, promote innovation, get paid, and collaborate on a number of different ideas.

“We aim to make frontier technologies WAY cheaper and easier to build.” Yes, this sentence is very similar to what Xiaomi, the technology giant of our country said so that everyone can enjoy the fun of technology.

That’s what it's all about. Improving the quality of life so that we can focus on the more important things that life brings. Great questions by the way. You’ve been a pleasure to speak with this entire time.

We expect that you can change the world through artificial intelligence + blockchain. Thanks, William and Kambria.

You are very welcome. Please feel free to join our Telegram Channels. We do have a Chinese Channel as well. We’d love to see you there. I am going to post our channels. If you have any more questions, feel free to ping me or DM me directly. My inbox is always open.

We’d like to thank not only DragonEx Exchange for having us, but also to all of the community members who asked us such great questions!

[THE END]

The Privacy Coin Guide - Part 1

If you're looking for a quick and easy way to assess what the best privacy coin in the current space is, which has the best features, or which is most likely to give high returns, then this is not that guide. My goal is to give you the power to make your own decisions, to clearly state my biases, and educate. I really wanted to understand this niche of the crypto-space due to my background and current loyalties[1], and grasp the nuances of the features, origins and timelines of technologies used in privacy coins, while not being anything close to a developer myself. This is going to be a 3-part series, starting with an overview and basic review of the technology, then looking at its implications, and ending with why I like a specific project. It might be mildly interesting or delightfully educational. Cryptocurrencies are young and existing privacy coins are deploying technology that is a work in progress. This series assumes a basic understanding of how blockchains work, specifically as used in cryptocurrencies. If you don't have that understanding, might I suggest that you get it? [2],[3],[4] Because cryptocurrencies have a long way to go before reaching their end-game: when the world relies on the technology without understanding it. So, shall we do a deep dive into the privacy coin space?

FIRST THERE WAS BITCOIN

Cryptocurrencies allow you to tokenize value and track its exchange between hands over time, with transaction information verified by a distributed network of users. The most famous version of a cryptocurrency in use is Bitcoin, defined as peer-to-peer electronic cash. [5] Posted anonymously in 2008, the whitepaper seemed to be in direct response to the global financial meltdown and public distrust of the conventional banking and financing systems. Although cryptographic techniques are used in Bitcoin to ensure that (i) only the owner of a specific wallet has the authority to spend funds from that wallet, (ii) the public address is linked but cannot be traced by a third party to the private address (iii) the information is stored via cryptographic hashing in a merkle tree structure to ensure data integrity, the actual transaction information is publicly visible on the blockchain and can be traced back to the individual through chain analysis.[6] This has raised fears of possible financial censorship or the metaphorical tainting of money due to its origination point, as demonstrated in the Silk Road marketplace disaster.[7] This can happen because fiat money is usually exchanged for cryptocurrency at some point, as crypto-enthusiasts are born in the real world and inevitably cash out. There are already chain analysis firms and software that are increasingly efficient at tracking transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain.[8] This lack of privacy is one of the limitations of Bitcoin that has resulted in the creation of altcoins that experiment with the different features a cryptocurrency can have. Privacy coins are figuring out how to introduce privacy in addition to the payment network. The goal is to make the cryptocurrency fungible, each unit able to be exchanged for equal value without knowledge of its transaction history - like cash, while being publicly verifiable on a decentralized network. In other words, anyone can add the math up without being able to see the full details. Some privacy solutions and protocols have popped up as a result:

CRYPTONOTE – Ring Signatures and Stealth Addresses

Used in: Monero and Particl as its successor RING-CT, Bytecoin

In December 2012, CryptoNote introduced the use of ring signatures and stealth addresses (along with other notable features such as its own codebase) to improve cryptocurrency privacy.[9] An updated CryptoNote version 2 came in October 2013 [10](though there is some dispute over this timeline [11]), also authored under the name Nicolas van Saberhagen. Ring signatures hide sender information by having the sender sign a transaction using a signature that could belong to multiple users. This makes a transaction untraceable. Stealth addresses allow a receiver to give a single address which generates a different public address for funds to be received at each time funds are sent to it. That makes a transaction unlinkable. In terms of privacy, CryptoNote gave us a protocol for untraceable and unlinkable transactions. The first implementation of CryptoNote technology was Bytecoin in March 2014 (timeline disputed [12]), which spawned many children (forks) in subsequent years, a notable example being Monero, based on CryptoNote v2 in April 2014.

RING SIGNATURES and STEALTH ADDRESSES

PROS

- Provides sender and receiver privacy

- Privacy can be default

- Mature technology

- Greater scalability with bulletproofs

- Does not require any third-party

CONS

- Privacy not very effective without high volume

-Does not hide transaction information if not combined with another protocol.

Bitcoin developer Gregory Maxwell proposed a set of solutions to bring privacy to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, the first being CoinJoin (January 28 – Aug 22, 2013).[13],[14] CoinJoin (sometimes called CoinSwap) allows multiple users to combine their transactions into a single transaction, by receiving inputs from multiple users, and then sending their outputs to the multiple users, irrespective of who in the group the inputs came from. So, the receiver will get whatever output amount they were supposed to, but it cannot be directly traced to its origination input. Similar proposals include Coinshuffle in 2014 and Tumblebit in 2016, building on CoinJoin but not terribly popular [15],[16]. They fixed the need for a trusted third party to ‘mix’ the transactions. There are CoinJoin implementations that are being actively worked on but are not the most popular privacy solutions of today. A notable coin that uses CoinJoin technology is Dash, launched in January 2014, with masternodes in place of a trusted party.

COINJOIN

PROS

- Provides sender and receiver privacy

- Easy to implement on any cryptocurrency

- Lightweight

- Greater scalability with bulletproofs

- Mature technology

CONS

- Least anonymous privacy solution. Transaction amounts can be calculated

- Even without third-party mixer, depends on wealth centralization of masternodes

ZEROCOIN

Used in: Zcoin, PIVX

In May 2013, the Zerocoin protocol was introduced by John Hopkins University professor Matthew D. Green and his graduate students Ian Miers and Christina Garman.[17] In response to the need for use of a third party to do CoinJoin, the Zerocoin proposal allowed for a coin to be destroyed and remade in order to erase its history whenever it is spent. Zero-knowledge cryptography and zero-knowledge proofs are used to prove that the new coins for spending are being appropriately made. A zero-knowledge proof allows one party to prove to another that they know specific information, without revealing any information about it, other than the fact that they know it. Zerocoin was not accepted by the Bitcoin community as an implementation to be added to Bitcoin, so a new cryptocurrency had to be formed. Zcoin was the first cryptocurrency to implement the Zerocoin protocol in 2016. [18]

ZEROCOIN

PROS

- Provides sender and receiver privacy

- Supply can be audited

- Relatively mature technology

- Does not require a third-party

CONS

- Requires trusted setup (May not be required with Sigma protocol)

- Large proof sizes (not lightweight)

- Does not provide full privacy for transaction amounts

ZEROCASH

Used in:  Zcash, Horizen, Komodo, Zclassic, Bitcoin Private

In May 2014, the current successor to the Zerocoin protocol, Zerocash, was created, also by Matthew Green and others (Eli Ben-Sasson, Alessandro Chiesa, Christina Garman, Matthew Green, Ian Miers, Eran Tromer, Madars Virza).[19] It improved upon the Zerocoin concept by taking advantage of zero-knowledge proofs called zk-snarks (zero knowledge succinct non-interactive arguments of knowledge). Unlike Zerocoin, which hid coin origins and payment history, Zerocash was faster, with smaller transaction sizes, and hides transaction information on the sender, receiver and amount. Zcash is the first cryptocurrency to implement the Zerocash protocol in 2016. [20]

ZEROCASH

PROS

- Provides full anonymity. Sender, receiver and amount hidden.

- Privacy can be default?

- Fast due to small proof sizes.

- Payment amount can be optionally disclosed for auditing

- Does not require any third-party

CONS

- Requires trusted setup. (May be improved with zt-starks technology)

- Supply cannot be audited. And coins can potentially be forged without proper implementation.

- Private transactions computationally intensive (improved with Sapling upgrade)

CONFIDENTIAL TRANSACTIONS

Used in:  Monero and Particl with Ring Signatures as RING-CT

The next proposal from Maxwell was that of confidential transactions, proposed in June 2015 as part of the Sidechain Elements project from Blockstream, where Maxwell was Chief Technical Officer.[21],[22] It proposed to hide the transaction amount and asset type (e.g. deposits, currencies, shares), so that only the sender and receiver are aware of the amount, unless they choose to make the amount public. It uses homomorphic encryption[23] to encrypt the inputs and outputs by using blinding factors and a kind of ring signature in a commitment scheme, so the amount can be ‘committed’ to, without the amount actually being known. I’m terribly sorry if you now have the urge to go and research exactly what that means. The takeaway is that the transaction amount can be hidden from outsiders while being verifiable.

CONFIDENTIAL TRANSACTIONS

PROS

- Hides transaction amounts

- Privacy can be default

- Mature technology

- Does not require any third-party

CONS

- Only provides transaction amount privacy when used alone

RING-CT

Used in: Monero, Particl

Then came Ring Confidential transactions, proposed by Shen-Noether of Monero Research Labs in October 2015.[24] RingCT combines the use of ring signatures for hiding sender information, with the use of confidential transactions (which also uses ring signatures) for hiding amounts. The proposal described a new type of ring signature, A Multi-layered Linkable Spontaneous Anonymous Group signature which “allows for hidden amounts, origins and destinations of transactions with reasonable efficiency and verifiable, trustless coin generation”.[25] RingCT was implemented in Monero in January 2017 and made mandatory after September 2017.

RING -CONFIDENTIAL TRANSACTIONS

PROS

- Provides full anonymity. Hides transaction amounts and receiver privacy

- Privacy can be default

- Mature technology

- Greater scalability with bulletproofs

- Does not require any third-party

CONS

- Privacy not very effective without high volume

MIMBLEWIMBLE

Used in: Grin

Mimblewimble was proposed in July 2016 by pseudonymous contributor Tom Elvis Jedusorand further developed in October 2016 by Andrew Poelstra.[26],[27] Mimblewimble is a "privacy and fungibility focused cryptocoin transaction structure proposal".[28] The key words are transaction structure proposal, so the way the blockchain is built is different, in order to accommodate privacy and fungibility features. Mimblewimble uses the concept of Confidential transactions to keep amounts hidden, looks at private keys and transaction information to prove ownership of funds rather than using addresses, and bundles transactions together instead of listing them separately on the blockchain. It also introduces a novel method of pruning the blockchain. Grin is a cryptocurrency in development that is applying Mimblewimble. Mimblewimble is early in development and you can understand it more here [29].

MIMBLEWIMBLE

PROS

- Hides transaction amounts and receiver privacy

- Privacy is on by default

- Lightweight

- No public addresses?

CONS

- Privacy not very effective without high volume

- Sender and receiver must both be online

- Relatively new technology

ZEXE

Fresh off the minds of brilliant cryptographers (Sean Bowe, Alessandro Chiesa, Matthew Green, Ian Miers, Pratyush Mishra, Howard Wu), in October 2018 Zexe proposed a new cryptographic primitive called ‘decentralized private computation.[30] It allows users of a decentralized ledger to “execute offline computations that result in transactions"[31], but also keeps transaction amounts hidden and allows transaction validation to happen at any time regardless of computations being done online. This can have far reaching implications for privacy coins in the future. Consider cases where transactions need to be automatic and private, without both parties being present.

NETWORK PRIVACY

Privacy technologies that look at network privacy as nodes communicate with each other on the network are important considerations, rather than just looking at privacy on the blockchain itself. Anonymous layers encrypt and/or reroute data as it moves among peers, so it is not obvious who they originate from on the network. They are used to protect against surveillance or censorship from ISPs and governments. The Invisible Internet Project (I2P) is an anonymous network layer that uses end to end encryption for peers on a network to communicate with each other.[32] Its history dates back to 2003. Kovri is a Monero created implementation of I2P.[33] The Onion Router (Tor) is another anonymity layer [34]) that Verge is a privacy cryptocurrency that uses. But its historical link to the US government may be is concerning to some[35]. Dandelion transaction relay is also an upcoming Bitcoin improvement proposal (BIP) that scrambles IP data that will provide network privacy for Bitcoin as transaction and other information is transmitted.[36],[37],[38]

UPCOMING

Monero completed bulletproofs protocol updates that reduce RINGCT transaction sizes and thus transaction fee costs. (Bulletproofs are a replacement for range proofs used in confidential transactions that aid in encrypting inputs and outputs by making sure they add to zero).

Sigma Protocol – being actively researched by Zcoin team as of 2018 to replace Zerocoin protocol so that a trusted setup is not required.[39] There is a possible replacement for zk-snarks, called zk-starks, another form of zero-knowledge proof technology, that may make a trusted set-up unnecessary for zero-knowledege proof coins.[40]

PART 1 CONCLUSION

Although Bitcoin is still a groundbreaking technology that gives us a trust-less transaction system, it has failed to live up to its expectations of privacy. Over time, new privacy technologies have arrived and are arriving with innovative and exciting solutions for Bitcoin’s lack of fungibility. It is important to note that these technologies are built on prior research and application, but we are considering their use in cryptocurrencies. Protocols are proposed based on cryptographic concepts that show how they would work, and then developers actually implement them. Please note that I did not include the possibility of improper implementation as a disadvantage, and the advantages assume that the technical development is well done. A very important point is that coins can also adapt new privacy technologies as their merits become obvious, even as they start with a specific privacy protocol. Furthermore, I am, unfortunately, positive that this is not an exhaustive overview and I am only covering publicized solutions. Next, we’ll talk more about the pros and cons and give an idea of how the coins can be compared. See you in Part 2.

After hosting dozens of prized tournaments, here are my observations & suggestions

Huge Problem:

Volvo pls… Fix autodraw bug. Possibly caused when queuing too fast in a large tournament although one person with autodraw bug reports he waited 2 mins to queue while his opponent did not. Otherwise I have only seen it happen a few times at the very start of a round. Workaround: none, see tournament interface cries for help

Volvo pls… HL3...

Tournament Creation:

Allow us to permaban people from joining tournaments we create

Ready up feature for tournaments. This would really help small groups host larger tournaments.

Allow change of scoring option after tournament phase creation. Also showing scoring method somewhere before tournament start would be nice.

Allow extra admin/caster slots since otherwise you can’t have a 128 person tournament.

Option to punish abandons in your tournament, linked too all other tournaments that choose to punish abandons. This is to limit freerolling in small prized tournaments.

Shareable tournament presets for quickly creating new tournaments and for uniformity in satellite events.

Allow bots to be added to fill in byes. This matters more for tiebreakers, limits getting a bye from being too much of an advantage, prevents getting a bye from being a disadvantage, and gives players something relevant to their tournament run while waiting for other matches in casual tournaments.

Create the option for a set start time where invites automatically close and round start. This could preclude options like tournament seeding.

Tournament Interface:

Allow admins to change scores for a short window and to replay matches. This is important for draft where you can’t just remake. GOTO Huge Problem

Player perspective observing. This would greatly improve the viewer experience.

Allow new admins and spectators to join after invites close.

Popup info on game status when you mouse over a match so spectators know what games are just starting or finishing and so players know about how long they have until their next match. Even just a timer would be great.

Autoland the bracket viewer zoomed all the way out or where you were last viewing when switching to that tab.

Create a condensed view of bracket option that scrolls from left to right so it is possible to see the top 16 or so in a single, legible screen.

Display very basic tournament stats. Player count would be a nice start.

Allow use to choose which side of the board is at the bottom when spectating a game. It could be when you right click a name to spectate it makes that person the person on the bottom.

Steam Chat:

Fix spoiler boxes in Steam chat. You can tell who won by the length of the name of the person winning 80% of the time. A solution would be to spoiler the announcement of a match finishing, with the winner in bold or loser in strikeout.

Autojoin people who are directly invited via friends into tournament lobby chat. Tournament lobby chat tends to be where all the important information is posted and from what I can tell many people do not open lobby chat.

Hey everyone! So i believe i did everything right. Was able to buy bitcoin, transfer to wallet and spend it on a vpn service as a test with no issues. Just want to post my process to make sure everything is ok. thank you for your time!

Hey everyone! So really would love for someone to see my process and tell me if I did everything correct or room for improvement.

This is the order of events.

1.) Created an account on Gemini and connect my bank account for funds ->

2.) Buy from the exchange ->

3.) After a week once everything cleared I withdrew my balance to a "Wallet" I used Electrum, everything seems ok coins are now in my wallet -->

4.) Went to VPN provider and got the link they give to pay in bitcoin -->

5.) From my wallet I put their link/address in the "pay to" section under "send" -->

6.) Few mins later transaction completed, bitcoin gone from wallet and VPN subscription is now active for a month.

so in short used Gemini to buy and used Electrum to hold/receive/spend?

To receive payment from someone, i would go to "receive" put in $5 for example; it generates the code/link that once I send to someone will request $5 worth in bitcoin correct?

How secure and private was my process? Mostly after it leaves Gemini as obviously, they have identifiable info such as bank ext.

also one more random question i was unable t figure out with Electrum. They give me that long passphrase in case i forget my pw or something. If i for example broke my computer, got a new one, installed Gemini and used that passphrase i'll be able to access my wallet that was original located on the broken computer? That must mean the wallet is stored/accessible from some sever off my computer correct?

sorry for all the questions, but after hearing about bitcoin for years i really wanted to check it out. So far my first purchase has really impressed me! Its way fucking cooler than i imagined (so far)

thank you so much to anyone who reads this and or replies i appreciate it!

Blockchain Innovation Foundation Q4 2018 update

Blockchain Innovation Foundation (BIF) is happy to report progress on the Factom protocol development.

Grants

During the second round of grant applications we entered 4 projects for consideration and were awarded grants for 3 projects: Core Protocol Development, an Alfresco Integration module and Decentralized Identities specification.

Core Protocol Development

We received a grant to recruit two developers to learn and partake in the core development for the Factom protocol. Having multiple parties working on the protocol is an important step in the decentralization of the protocol.

We have now one developer onboard and are in talks with a second developer. We are also talking to Factom Inc., to arrange training and onboarding the new developers.

Alfresco Integration module

We have a good relationship with Alfresco who are eager to promote blockchain as a great added value for their Records Management and Compliance functions. As BIF, we’ve tasked Sphereon with the development of an Open Source module that can be added to both their Community- and Enterprise versions and will provide standard integration with Factom for their customers.

Development has started and will continue during January and February.

Decentralized Identities specification

This grant will bring Decentralized Identifiers, an open standard for digital identities, to the Factom ecosystem. The implementation will consist of:

  • A driver for the DID Universal Resolver;
  • An open-source API, together with a web UI, for creating DID Documents on the Factom blockchain.

We believe this project is very importance for the Factom community. Bringing DIDs to Factom will unlock a whole suite of new use cases for the protocol, while at the same time strengthening its core value proposition: DIDs will be central for a host of applications in the banking, insurance, aviation and pharmaceutical industries, to name a few.

Currently, the DID specs are being implemented by several blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Sovrin, Ontology), as well as companies like Microsoft are involved in DIDs.

The DID method spec will be provisionally listed in W3C-CCC DID Method registry, providing great exposure to Factom for anyone looking for an on-chain DID implementation

The development projects of DIDs for Factom has started and will continue during January and February. We expect the first public updates to be published by the end of January, early February.

Promotions

In our last report we announced the launch of our website blockchain-innovation.org. Besides basic information on what we do, who we are, about Blockchain and Factom in specific, we also have a section on Advisors and Speakers with industry experts we are associated with and that are available for presentations, workshops, masterclasses, etc.

This section has created interest and traffic and resulted to several invitation to talk about blockchain in general and Factom specifically.

Austin

It already seems a long time ago, but at the end of October all of BIF travelled to Austin and participated in the first Factom ANO meeting. Kudo’s for the organizers and all participants to come together and share some much valuable insights and ideas.

In the days after that we participated and talked at the Texas Bitcoin conference about the projects we implemented and some of the new technologies coming to the Factom protocol.

Singapore

We were invited to participate with a technical trade mission to Singapore in November. Sebastian had a full week of meetings with local authorities and organizations to explain the benefits of Blockchain and Factom. The highlight was winning the pitch competition for Interpol on Chain of custody for digital evidence using the Factom Blockchain.

Microsoft Switzerland

Niels was invited to speak at the Microsoft offices in Bern, Switzerland, on the Factom protocol and our integrations with MS Azure. With about 120 attendees we educated 119 of them about Factom’s unique characteristics.

Besides these obvious highlights we did a dozen other talks during local events and meetups.

Financial status

In November we saw a spectacular rise of the FCT exchange rate. Although the exchange rates slumped since the high on December 6th, it is still double the rate of the months before.

We have planned and budgeted for the coming months and can guarantee to keep the operations and support for the Authority Nodes running at a high level of performance. Any excess funds will be used for promotion and additional development.

  • A driver for the DID Universal Resolver;
