Hi friends in r/Bitcoin, I have two questions

Hey fellas, I am currently on a project related to the relationship between the price of BTC and some historical events, so I want to ask two questions to you guys, who definitely experienced more than me.

  1. What do you think affects bitcoin's price the most? (ie market demand)
  2. Which historical event do you think has the greatest impact on the price of bitcoin? (ie BTC becoming a paying method on the dark net)

I would really appreciate any responses to either of the two questions above!! And it would be even better if you can also tell me your experience on bitcoin (how many years on bitcoin would be fine).

Thank you very much for those who responses!!!!

[Serious] Hi bitcoin trades of Reddit, what do you think affects bitcoin's price the most? And which historical event do you think had the greatest impact on the price of bitcoin?

I've kept my BCH since it split from BTC and saw that BSV is now a thing, so tried to claim my alt coins.

It *appears* I somehow sent my BCH coins to a BSV wallet when I swept it using Coinomi. Does that sound right?

Now my BCH wallet is empty, and it was transacted at the same time I brought in my BSV... Hoping there is a way to reverse that?

If it helps I used this guide to claim the new coins - [[link]3

EDIT: Found the answer on [[link]4 . I just have to transfer them back, as transaction on one chain does the same on the other chain

Bitcoin Air

The act of reentry into the market will be as simple as “on chaining” your USDAP to Bitcoin Air. This event will occur through the burning of USDAP and the minting of Bitcoin Air at the current market rate. This action, called on chaining, will cause a rise in circulating supply, along with a rise in market capitalization to make sure no other holder takes a negative impact by reentry to the market. Simultaneously, the burning of USDAP will lower the circulating supply and lower the reserves available on the static value side chain. https://bitcoinair.org

Study: Asia more impact on the Bitcoin course than the West

With events such as the SEC's approval of a Bitcoin ETF and the introduction of crypto-derivatives, one might think that the market is driven by news from the United States. However, new analyzes suggest that Asia and not the West is the dominant driver of the Bitcoin course. Western focus could be misleading:

It is true that the Western Hemisphere has a major dominance over the mainstream asset market, the same is not necessarily true for Bitcoin and the Altcoin market. However, it is not uncommon for US-based "trading experts" to argue that things like the futures CME and CBOE BTC drive the bitcoin price.

According to Mosaic, a cryptocurrency data and research firm, developments in Asia are impacting much more strongly on the virtual currency market than those from the western part of the world. The research firm says there have been eleven important news from Asia about cryptocurrencies. These headlines weighed on the market with an average of 18.61 percent.

In mid-2018, as the Bitcoin price rose from $ 6,200 to $ 8,000, many commentators pointed to news from Asia. At that time, affluent Chinese citizens turned to the crypto-currency Bitcoin as a haven as the government accelerated the devaluation of its currency.

Asia dominates the mining:

First of all, Asia dominates both the mining and the stock market landscape. Even with China's crackdown, other places like Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea are hot spots for numerous crypto platforms and related businesses. Earlier this year, Arthur Hayes, CEO of the Hong Kong-based BitMex platform, said that crypto trading is more developed in Asia than in the West.

REFUSAL TO PAY PLINKO JACKPOT! Please Help!

Hello FortuneJack community my username is verusfides on the website known popularly as fortunejack.com. I am coming to  you today as a recent player on it's website who has not been paid my earnings and have been robbed because of a bug which occured on one of there games. Below is a full break down of the events that have occurred.

(TL;DR below)

Yesterday, I had made a small deposit to FortuneJack. They had recently sent me a notifcation asking to try a new game and I was intrigued. During the game I had accrued some amount of funds roughly amounting 2 BTC. I, in my belief was that I had acquired these winnings fairly without any fraudulent or illegal play. Later I try to make a small withdrawal of roughly a quarter of my winnings around .45 BTC, which then said was undergoing review. I thought everything was fine up till this point.

This is where it gets interesting. As the night progresses, I am still on the site gambling for nearly 8 hours, eventually heading over to there plinko page. I keep playing and playing and then the jackpot hit. You should understand I was literally speechless when this happened. It was a payout of 20 BTC.

About 15 minutes later however, all the funds in my account were subtracted and later they had claimed that my winnings on Adrenaline were obtained due to a bug, and that they therefore would have to penalize ALL the money I acquired. Clearly this is unjustifiable. Even if the winnings I won in Adrenaline were from a bug. I had been on the casino website for nearly 8 hours. I am sure I have wagered over 10000x my initial deposit.  Even if the casino were to claim that I won a small amount from a bug, the plinko bet was won fair and square. They even know this because they have nothing to say about it, but simply because of the Adrenaline game which THEY advertised me to play, they are refusing my winnings. I am coming to the community here today to see what they have to say about this. I am being robbed for playing a game they had suggested to me?

TL;DR Won a total of 22 BTC -20 from Plinko jackpot 1000x and 2 from Adrenaline. Fortunejack siezed all earnings claiming a bug from the game Adrenaline which was advertised by them.

Chat conversation with FJ support.

Me:

Game-Protect has decided to take my case if you will not cooperate and will enforce every action available to them to receive the funds that were seized from me. Also I will start posting threads of this incident. Would you prefer to lose 2000 clients or 20 BTC. It is not a hard choice. Please it is the holidays. Nobody wants this. I would rather be telling people of a great jackpot moment that I had right before Christmas rather than telling everyone how I had been robbed and confiscated by a site which I deemed to be trustworthy.
9:27 am
Please find someone that is able to help me. This is really the most absurd thing I have ever experienced.

Mark:

I appreciate the information provided, but to make sure I understand you correctly - could you restate your concern?

Me:

Your company sent me notifications to play a game yesterday called Adrenaline.
I did so. I won money from there. I did not know that there was a bug. I thought to my knowledge all winnings were won fairly.
Later I played the plinko game and hit the jackpot fairly. as you can see by the hash and server seed provided.
Several minutes later every single cent is taken from me and I am given 0.08 BTC. Saying there was a bug on Adrenaline?
What does the outcome of one game have to do with the outcome of another?
Several people will stop playing here if they see an unfair result here. I have played yesterday for nearly 8 to 10 hours non stop to get to that jackpot and you guys would have this stripped from me, why?
Because of a bug that you guys should have known prior to releasing the game in the first place? If anything should fire the person who let such a thing happen in the first place. Why am I being penalized for doing nothing but playing a game which was first advertised by FortuneJack themselves.
Really I would much rather not blow this out of control but if you guys will continue in this manner. I have your Facebook. Reddit, Twitter, etc. All available to me and ready to see what has happened.
Nobody would even for a second, agree this is remotely fair and I'm sure even you could see this is not right. What have I, as a player done to deserve to be treated like this?
I have followed all rules, every single regulation, wager requirement. I have cooperated through everything you guys have ever asked of me while I play on your site. I demand to be treated with the equal amount of respect I have given your company.

Mark:

I understand your frustration, but rules are one for all  our players, regarding our terms we can not do something more that we also have done. We are really sorry to hear you feedback,if we could do something else for sure we will do it.

Me:

No, I will not accept that as an answer. By doing more than you have done? You robbed me of a winning I won fairly and squarely. What have you done for me?
Okay. Let
Let'
lets see what all the people that use your page has to say.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2697105.0
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2vrzfq/psa_about_fortunejack_the_btc_gaming_site/
https://game-protect.com/curacao-licensing-scam/
I know I am not the only person who has had this problem.
Also you guys are affiliated with Game-Protect and this is what they themselves have said.

(Game-Protect)
Hello,
Your legal assessment that they can only confiscate the winnings from Adrenaline (if it had a bug) is absolutely correct. Even then they still have to show proof that the Adrenaline game had a bug.
Did you register your FortuneJack account with Game Protect? If yes, our assistance service is completely free for you.

Best regards,
GP

Me:

I hope you realize the repercussions of being named an unreliable and unfair website.
Also I was told that the bug was worth only 0.08 BTC. So you are saying I had somehow managed to win free BTC playing your game but somehow this is only worth 0.08 BTC? Tell me you guys are joking. Just a find like that in itself is worth more than the 20 BTC I am asking for so please don't sit there and act like what you guys did was remotely right.
It was not, not even in the slightest. I am doing my damnedest to be calm about this but the more this conversation goes on the more frustrated I am getting.
Why on earth would you release a game that had such a huge bug and how was this unaware by anybody in your team? Why am I being treated so poorly for something that is out of my control?!
Your site may say that all bets tied to the bug will void, but that should only be the game in which the bug was found. I deposited enough to make that plinko bet. I refuse to be treated in this manner. This is outrageous. Is nobody on your side willing to listen to any form of reasoning?
I don't understand why you guys constantly wait for things to look poorly in your favor before you decide to act and do the right thing, however if that is your manner of doing things then I will begin posting online.

Mark:

We are very sorry that can not do something more for you.

Me:

No you're not sorry. Don't sit there and lie to me and say you're sorry. You realize the amount of money that in involved in this problem. I know you do so don't just sit there and nonchalantly say to me that there is nothing you can do for me!
I will treat your response to me. As a response from FortuneJack as a whole, and anyone else who reads this chat document will treat it as so.

Electrum-GRS 3.2.3 Update

Electrum-GRS is a lightweight "thin client" Groestlcoin wallet Windows, MacOS and Linux based on a client-server protocol. Its main advantages over the original Groestlcoin client include support for multi-signature wallets and not requiring the download of the entire block chain.

What’s New

Groestlcoin ivendPay Integration

ivendPay and Groestlcoin cryptocurrency have announced the start of integration.

IT company ivendPay, the developer of a universal multicurrency payment module for automatic and retail trade, intends to integrate Groestlcoin cryptocurrency — one of the oldest and the most reputable Bitcoin forks into the payment system. Groestlcoin is characterized by instant transactions with almost zero commission and is optimal for mass retail trade where micropayments are mostly used.

According to Sergey Danilov, founder and CEO of ivendPay, Groestlcoin will become the 11th cryptocurrency integrated into the payment module. The first working vending machines for the sale of coffee, snacks and souvenirs, equipped with ivendPay modules, served the visitors of the CryptoEvent RIW exhibition at VDNKh in Moscow and accepted Bitcoin, Go Byte, Dash, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Zcash, Bitcoin Gold, Dogecoin and Emercoin. ivendPay terminals are designed and patented to accept payments in electronic money, cryptocurrencies and cash when connecting the corresponding cash terminal. Payment for the purchase takes a few seconds, the choice of the payment currency occurs at the time of placing the order on the screen, the payment is made by QR-code through the cryptocurrency wallet on the smartphone.

The interest in equipping vending machines with ivendPay terminals has already been shown by the companies of Malaysia and Israel, where first test networks would be installed. ivendPay compiles a waiting list for vending networks interested in buying terminals and searches for an investor to launch industrial production. According to Sergey Danilov, the universal payment terminal ivendPay for the vending machine will cost about $500. The founder of ivendPay has welcomed the appearance of Groestlcoin among integrated cryptocurrencies, as it is another step towards the realization of the basic idea of digital money - free and cross-border access to goods and services for everybody.

BITCOIN AIR: THE ON-CHAINING PROCESS

The storage of Air Protocol will be on a privacy focused side chain that will allow open access to your ledger. While privacy isn't our main goal, we feel that all transactions and earnings should be maintained to the users discretion of use. This in turn means that access to your ledger of mints/burns will be at your control at all times. Publicly permitted API's will be developed to allow for even the most common bookkeeping and accounting softwares to integrate with your private ledger. The act of re-entry into the market will be as simple as "On chaining" your USDAP to Bitcoin Air. This event will occur through the burning of USDAP and the minting of Bitcoin Air at the current market rate. This action, called on chaining, will cause a rise in circulating supply, along with a rise in market capitalization to make sure no other holder takes a negative impact by reentry to the market. I've started working on modifying the Vive wireless adapter for better passive cooling.

First and foremost: I voided my warranty, this is not a how to, this is an attempt to see if anyone else is working on a similar solution and to get as much input from as many people as possible. Please chime in if you have any thoughts on the subject. I have the Pro version, which means the adapter is under more strain, it's constantly at the bandwidth limit in most games.

I have no background in engineering nor am I in any way qualified to do this, but I did mine bitcoin back in the day and learned a lot about heat accumulation and dissipation. My proudest achievement was running a 6 GPU rig on my balcony for a year consecutively in Finland with the ambient temperature of -30c to +40c. Almost nothing ever caught fire :) This experience leads me to think that it's a bad idea to draw more power trough the headset, from the same battery for a fan. Also I have long hair and am downright afraid of adding a fan to my head.

I have begun to cut off some, not all of the, "plastic strips" covering the openings in the adapter. I intend to remove about half of them, every other to be exact, removing all seems like it could weaken the "chassis" too much. If that is not sufficient then I'll open the entire thing out and try to figure out if there are spots where small aluminum heat sinks could be added without interfering with the reception. What material would be the least interfering with the reception whilst having the greatest possible thermal conductivity? The answer is probably not metal at all?

Here's where I began, I intend to go back and smooth the edges, possibly with a soldering iron: https://imgur.com/a/smMdT7n

I'll try to post updates in comments as the chopping progresses, hopefylly we see some input before entirely "gut the sucker" :)

Anyone considering adding a fan might want to cut off the "plastic strips" covering the openings in the adapter from beneath the spot you intend to add the fan to, especially if you intend to glue the fan on to the adapter. Actually I can guarantee this will improve the (unknown to me) efficiency of your fan mod by a double digit %.

[edit1]

I have removed roughly half of the strips and done some testing, not enough to say anything conclusive, but the adapter seems slightly cooler after and during intense use. I did play a full battery's worth of Skyrim without seeing a grey screen, this has happened before, but not that often. I discovered the back "plastic strip" has a clip that's holding the enclosure together. Had I known this I would of not cut it, looks like it missing wont be a problem tough. I have clearly created openings that will gather dust, so from here on I'll make a routine of blasting the adapter with air duster from time to time. It's obviously also more vulnerable to liquids now, but I don't see any sweat getting in from the top and sides where the modifications are.

Has anyone opened the adapter up, does a teardown guide exist?

1. General questions

Where can I download the Monero wallet?

There are multiple Monero wallets for a wide range of devices at your disposal. Check the table below for details and download links. All wallets listed below are open source. Attention: for extra security make sure to calculate and compare the checksum of your downloaded files.

Desktop wallets

Wallet Device Description Download link
"Official" GUI / CLI Windows, Mac OS X, Linux The default implementation that is maintained by the core team. Use this one to run a full node and obtain maximum privacy.Has Ledger (hardware wallet) integration. Current version: 0.13.0.4 / 0.13.0.4. GetMonero.org
MyMonero Windows, Mac OS X, Linux MyMonero is a lightweight wallet, which means you don't need to download the blockchain and run a node. MyMonero was developed with the assistance of the core team. They also have web-based and iOS versions. GitHub

Mobile wallets

Wallet Device Description Download link
Monerujo Android Popular Android lightweight wallet that has very cool features, like integration with xmr.to which lets you send payments in BTC using your XMR. It also has Ledger (hardware wallet) integration. Website: https://www.monerujo.io/. Google Play / F-Droid / GitHub

XMRWallet Web wallet with TOR support. ⚠️ Relatively new - use with caution! ⚠️ Web / Onion URL

How long does it take for my balance to unlock?

Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.

How can I prove that I sent a payment?

The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with fiat?

  • Kraken (USD and EUR): old-school, decent exchange. They might require your documents for verification and approval of your account.
  • LocalMonero: peer-to-peer exchange. They have pretty much everything as a payment method and they support hundreds of fiat options.

How do I mine Monero? And other mining questions.

The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit r/MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.

2. Wallet: CLI & GUI

Why I can't see my balance? Where is my XMR?

Before any action there are two things to check:

  1. Are you using the latest available version of the wallet? A new version is released roughly every 6 months, so make sure you're using the current release (compare the release on GetMonero.org with your wallet's version on Settings, under Debug info).
  2. Is your wallet fully synchronized? If it isn't, wait the sync to complete.

Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.

You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.

If this is not a sufficient answer for your case and you're looking for more information, please see this answer on StackExchange.

How do I upgrade my wallet to the newest version?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Why does it take so long to sync the wallet [for the first time]?

You have decided to use Monero's wallet and run a local node. Congratulations! You have chosen the safest and most secure option for your privacy, but unfortunately this has an initial cost. The first reason for the slowness is that you will need to download the entire blockchain, which is considerably heavy (+70 GB) and constantly growing. There are technologies being implemented in Monero to slow this growth, however it is inevitable to make this initial download to run a full node. Consider syncing to a device that has an SSD instead of an HDD, as this greatly impacts the speed of synchronization.

Now that the blockchain is on your computer, the next time you run the wallet you only need to download new blocks, which should take seconds or minutes (depending on how often you use the wallet).

I don't want to download the blockchain, how can I skip that?

The way to skip downloading the blockchain is connecting your wallet to a public remote node. You can follow this guide on how to set it up. You can find a list of public remote nodes on MoneroWorld.

Be advised that when using a public remote node you lose some of your privacy. A public remote node is able to identify your IP and opens up a range for certain attacks that further diminish your privacy. A remote node can't see your balance and it can't spend your XMR.

How do I restore my wallet from the mnemonic seed or from the keys?

To restore your wallet with the 25 word mnemonic seed, please see this guide.

To restore your wallet with your keys, please see this guide.

3. Wallet: Ledger

How do I generate a Ledger Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

4. Nodes

How can my local node become a public remote node?

If you want to support other Monero users by making your node public, you can follow the instructions on MoneroWorld, under the section "How To Include Your Node On Moneroworld".

How can I connect my node via Tor?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.
