[Altcoin Discussion] Tuesday, November 19, 2019

Thread topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Discussion related to recent events
  • Technical analysis, trading ideas & strategies
  • General questions about altcoins

Thread guidelines:

  • Be excellent to each other.
  • All regular rules for this subreddit apply, except for number 2. This, and only this, thread is exempt from the requirement that all discussion must relate to bitcoin trading.
  • This is for high quality discussion of altcoins. All shilling or obvious pumping/dumping behavior will result in an immediate one day ban. This is your only warning.
  • No discussion about specific ICOs. Established coins only.

If you're not sure what kind of discussion belongs in this thread, here are some example posts. News, TA, and sentiment analysis are great, too.

nona.li - The Piracy PeerTube instance

Hi, I've made a Piracy PeerTube instance: https://nona.li and I am looking for some help! (nona is short for the non-aggression principle)

Don't worry about me, I've taken what I believe to be reasonable security measures such as Tor, Njalla, payments with tumbled Bitcoin, among other things.

In the event that the domain gets revoked, I am planning on using https://ens.domains, rather than conventional domains. This isn't an optimal solution, but I don't know of any gTLD that ignores DMCA requests.

The instance is currently hosted in Romania which is a reasonable jurisdiction for DMCA-resistance, but I plan on doing better by moving the server to a country such as Ukraine or Malaysia.

For now, there are only the two most recent episodes of Rick and Morty (season 4), and I will be adding Stranger Things and Game of Thrones tonight.

If anyone is willing to upload pirated content, with proper thumbnails and titles, shoot me a DM! I'll gladly make an account for anyone that requests one with something specific in mind to upload, but account registration is not open at the moment. I don't quite have the budget for beefy servers, but that may change.

Beginners Guide to Blockchain, Bitcoin and PirateChain

https://pirate.black/beginners-guide

If I'm looking to build financial freedom for myself with cryptocurrencies, what should I do?

My answer to the Quora question above:

Investing in cryptocurrencies can be a great way for you to make a profit. However, investing in cryptocurrencies can still carry some risks with it. Learning how to reduce your risks as much as possible can make it so much easier for you to earn a profit, without having to worry about potential losses as much.

Pickout one strategy: Picking out a good strategy to work with will make all the difference when it comes to trading in digital currencies. There are many strategies that you can use, and the one you work with will often depend on your chosen cryptocurrency as well as with whether you wish to invest short-term or long-term. All of the strategies have the potential to make you money as long as you use them properly.

Understand the currency you are working with: Since all of these currencies work in different ways, it is important that you fully understand the way that your currency works before you join in. You need to know something about the currency and how it works.

Diversify your portfolio: Diversifying your portfolio means that you will put your money into at least two different investment types. The more investments that you can do at once, the less risk you are taking on. Another benefit of diverisification is that it can help protect you from yourself. Your crypto wealth is less likely to have large swings in value when it's diversified, so you are less likely to let your emotions guide your investment decisions.

Ask for help: Asking for help from someone who knows what they are doing, rather than trying to figure it all out on your own, can be the best way for you to lean how to invest properly.

Keep the emotions away from the investment: Keeping your emotions out of your investment if so important if you want to actually earn money. Emotions get in the way and make it almost impossible to make sound decisions on any of your investments.

Have an exit strategy: You should make sure that you have an exit strategy right from the beginning. This can help you to keep your emotions out of the game from the beginning and will make it easier for you to stick with your plan rather than losing money.

Investing in cryptocurrencies can be financially rewarding, but it's also risky. With the right crypto index strategy, you can try to reduce all the risks as much as possible.

In early 2017 we decided to design an index for the burgeoning cryptocurrency market. An independent team of mathematicians, quants and fund managers lead by Igor Rivin, Professor of Mathematics at Temple University and Whitehead prize winner 1998, and Carlo Scevola, economist and president of CS&P.

The purpose of this index would be twofold:

1) It would be a kind of a barometer for the cryptocurrency market.

2) It would be an investment vehicle which would allow an investor to participate in the growth potential of the cryptocurrency space and ultimately help them to achieve financial freedom.

We have decided to use top 20+ cryptocurrencies by market capitalization - the currencies below this cutoff are not very liquid and the top 20+ capture 90% of the total cryptocurrency market capitalization. The constituents of the index are weighted proportionally to the square root of their market capitalizations.

The index is completely rebalanced every quarter, and reweighed every month. This is necessitated by the rapid evolution of the cryptocurrency market.

The index is available at Libertypool, a borderless crypto investment platform. At Libertypool.com, you can start investing in the index from $500. From the beginning of 2015, the performance of the Libertypool index fund is up by around 7000%. In the same period, Bitcoin, by contrast, is up some 2500%.

I believe in the future of cryptocurrencies. So the best way to achieve financial freedom through cryptocurrency is to invest in a best risk-adjusted, high performance and diversified crypto index fund like this.

How to split BSV from BCH that are mixed with coins that have previously been split and are stored on a Trezor?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read and comment.

As the title says, I need some help with splitting BSV from BCH that are stored along with BCH that have already been split.

The first issue is that the Trezor contains BCH from which I had already successfully split my BSV some months ago. I then recently transferred more BCH to that same Trezor this past week. The split and unsplit BCH are now effectively held on the same device/wallet but at separate public addresses.

I want to know what the process is to split the BSV from those non-split BCH in the Trezor.

I have read this guide but as I don't have the BCH stored on Electron Cash, and they're mixed with split coins I don't know what the best options are.

Thanks

BTC — BTC fell briefly yesterday, rebounding after falling to $8368 at the lowest level and falling after hitting $8620 at the highest level. In terms of capital flow, the net inflow in 24 hours was 3 billion yuan, a significant increase over the previous day.On the 4-hour K-line, the slope of the downward trend rate is slowing down, the trading volume continues to shrink, and the volatility has also dropped to a new low in recent years. At this stage, the disk support and pressure are weak, only part of the energy is needed, and it is easy to pull up. It is not difficult to break through the pressure of 8600 and 8800 dollars, and 9000 dollars is the strong pressure level. But it doesn’t make much sense to pull it up. The market information hasn’t been restored. The overall trend is roughly between $8400 and $8600.In terms of operation, the spot continues to hold, while the futures are not recommended for operation.

Interesting online Side hustle, Hope you enjoy !

Hey Everyone,

I have been quite ill the last few weeks. I have been in the hospital for two weeks now and got quite bored after reading a dozen of books. Since the bills have to be paid I started looking online for some “stuff” to do while laying in bed. I quickly Stumbled upon this sub reddit and started looking at the top posts. I started some surveys for a few $, which was not too great. Besides looking on reddit I joined some Discord servers, where I got linked to a Discord that pays you for inviting other people to the discord. I got interested, asked around and there seemed to be a lot of positivity in the chat. After reading some of the do’s and don’ts I found out that the Discord server pays 25$ for 50 invites, which looked to insane for me. I started inviting people I knew, just to test if the invites were working. I quickly got to 12 invites but got stuck. After giving up for a day I continued by just posting the Discord link under random tweets, facebook and instagram posts which, frankly, worked quite well. After around 4 hours of passively posting links I had 50 invites. In my opinion it was quite easy, I was like where is the catch. Will I get paid After contacting what they call a “helper” in the Discord channel, they did actually send the money to me via Bitcoin (I have an account on BitPay). 23$ instead of 25$ because of a 2$ fee. I was kind of amazed. I was thinking how are they able to give 0,50$ per invite? After asking around, a helper told me that they use the server to advertise. The more people were in the server the more the advertisers pay to get a sponsored post in the Discord.

If you want a whole guide on how to invite and what the rules are it is on their Discord!

I know this is not really a passive money maker but it is really easy to do while playing games and it is quite passive. I dont know the money per hour/day/week/month but i will let you guys know asap in this thread! It took me one day of passive work to get 50 invites!

PS: Yes, if you click that link I do get an invite, but that was not the purpose of this message (before everyone starts hating).

Goodluck, hope this helps!

Running Lambda more frequently than once every minute

Hi Guys,

I posted a while ago about getting some help with my first coding project to write the Bitcoin Price to AWS DynamoDB using AWS Lambda (https://www.reddit.com/r/learnprogramming/comments/dm1ldk/help_with_aws_lambda_writing_bitcoin_price_to/ ). Thanks to your help this is now up and running and I have been collecting price data for the last month or so.

My next question is how can I get the Lambda to run more frequently that every minute? It is currently limited by the minimum CloudWatch event of 1 minute, but I have worked out that I can run it every 3 seconds and still be below my 1 million monthly allowance. I have recently started collecting data from the other exchanges, and I thought it would be interesting to use this data as I learn about python numpy and pandas.

My first thought would be to include a for loop within the Lambda function so that it runs x number of times? But I did some reading and found the following article: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/architecture/a-serverless-solution-for-invoking-aws-lambda-at-a-sub-minute-frequency/ . Is this the best way of doing it, and is the Step Function necessary? Couldn't the iterating Lambda just invoke the first one a certain number of times?

Thanks, would really appreciate any insight you guys can give.

CyberWay White Paper

Introduction

Since the development of the first so-called “blockchain” database named“Bitcoin”, complex transaction behavior was a “Holy Grail” for people wondering how they could pay, bet, play, and even order pizza with such assets.

The first complex transaction logic implementation was made available right in “Bitcoin” with a stack virtual machine providing a limited set of operations for the end-user to make some fun with it. Fine example is an Omni-layer built on top of the operations set, which end-user intention is to provide a creation and usage of the custom user-defined assets. Such a system successfully fulfilled contemporary requirements for liquid asset transfer. Unfortunately, such an application logic usage rapidly overflowed the throughput available, so no mass adoption happened.

Another attempt to provide the customizable complex transaction behavior was made with the creation of “Ethereum”, which provided an unnecessarily created from scratch programming language called“Solidity” for the creation of even more complex application logic, hoping it would not overflow the database throughput. Obviously this leads to another failure. Primal language and naive database architecture understanding did not survive the reality check - in 2017 the protocol was literally down with CryptoKitties hype.

The scalability troubles got up again, so another popular solution was rapidly proposed. Its name was EOS. The solution was to split the computable transaction complex behavior and to process it with the set of cluster nodes, which were called “Block producers”. This lead to the entrustment of an enormous responsibility to these “Block producers”.They were now not only about data storage providers, but also computation providers. Now, these guys not only store and process your data, but they even define the way your transaction behaves itself, define if they allow such a transaction to be written or not. Furthermore, such an “improvement” lead to the unacceptable database node hardware requirements, which made the support truly awful. Moreover, such a split was not enough for building production-ready applications - who would like to find out if the upvote transaction, which was even payed for, was at first queued and then rejected?

Proposal

CyberWay is a decentralized application platform that addresses and overcomes the shortages mentioned above.

EOS-compatibility

CyberWay is an upgraded fork of EOS. So, the backward compatibility is held. The code contains most of the tolerable EOS parts, but excludes the awful ones. So-called“Smart Contracts” API backward compatibility is held too, but the insides have changed. That means every EOS application could easily become theCyberWay-based one and vice versa. Enough of that. Next.

Bandwidth

EOS’s bandwidth distribution is closely related to the amount of asset the particular user owns. Furthermore, it requires for the user to hold the asset to be available for the usage at any time. That means the asset becomes a highly valuable, but also it becomes the non-available for the newcomers one. So no newcoming applications are welcomed to be built with EOS.

Striving to eliminate these inconveniences Cyberway introduces some changes.

The bandwitdh accounting is split to the couple of categories:

  1. Priority-based bandwidth allows a user to get required computational facilities according to the amount of core-asset available.

  2. Shared bandwidth supplies users with the unused computational power according to the particular user activity.

State Storage

EOS’s state storage is extremely unreliable and does not ensures that data is saved and restored after restart correctly. Furthermore, EOS does not provide any convenient API, but supposes the data structure stored inside would be complex. CyberWay solves these troubles. CyberWay uses the external DBMS for the state storage, which means the particular developer favorite query language can be used and the external well-designed replication and clusterization mechanisms, done by real engineers and scientists, are also about to reduce the hardware costs and make life easier.

Event Engine

Because of the storage internals being factored out the separate service, the additional transaction content-based event engine implementation is required. It is now impossible to alert the CyberWayexecutable from the various database if something happened or not, just like it was in EOS. Monitoring-purposed event engine, implemented as apart of updateable application, takes back the ability to track changes coming with every transaction, even if the data storage is completely outside.

Virtualization

Just like EOS, CyberWay requires for the transaction behaviour to be updated easier, than updating the whole cluster software. That is why the WebAssembly engine is used for the virtualization purposes and withC++ as primary language for the application development.

Separation

Why don’t just patch EOS? Several troubles are about the data itself, and not the code:

  1. EOS’s architecture made the memory quant an expensive one: according to the https://eosrp.io the cost of such a memory quant fluctuates from \$0.2 to \$0.5. That means any transaction-intensive application (e.g. some social applications) with even a quite small amount of active users (e.g. 2000-3000) would take at least 400MB per week, which would cost up to \$200,000.

  2. EOS’s custom transaction behavior is stored inside the huge hash-table allocated over a shared memory and the access is provided with an interface, based on quite sophisticated executable logic, which also costs.

The obvious solution - to make a cache service and process the data all inside it - is also quite a task because:

  1. The so-called “Constitution” of EOS defines the largest time interval available for the unused data to be stored with the same ownership as 3 years. This is quite unacceptable with some kind of applications (e.g. social ones) demanding data availability from the very beginning, but the changes are hard to make because lots of other application types are perfectly fine with this.

  2. EOS is made to produce replication packages as fast as it can - about half of a second. Such a frequency is fine for marketing purposes, but it significantly reduces the complexity of custom transaction logic. This is also unacceptable.

  3. Reduced amount of validators - only 21, and no significant increase is expected because of EOS protocol restrictions.

  4. Censorship availability for validators implemented right in the protocol core.

Applications

Applications are welcomed to use the following.

Shared Bandwidth

Shared bandwidth sets a limit for the user activity based on its’ staked asset amount, but no less than some basic threshold. This is required to prevent spam to database from the newcomers, and redistribute more computational resources to the successful application developers.

Shared bandwidth is accounted separately for the network, RAM and CPU usage.

Coming to accounting - this is done with particular application bandwidth balance, which shares the convenient part for the user performing the transaction. That is why this is called “Shared”bandwidth. The application is a multi-signature account, which requires at least one additional signature from the particular user, for its bandwidth to be used.

This type of bandwidth allows CyberWay to provide applications with free on-boarding of users at early stages via CyberWay Acceleration Program. Later successful application could get CYBER tokens within Acceleration Program from special fund.

Priority-Based Bandwidth

Priority-based bandwidth is required for the user to surely write the transaction. It is formed with the amount of core asset staked by the particular user and guarantees the transaction gets written right at next replication time. The whole amount of staked core asset forms the bandwidth market.

Each account gets a share from the whole bandwidth market according to the amount of core asset the account has staked. Considering the case some user-owned and staked the significant part of the whole bandwidth supply means the reduction of the resources available for other users. This is definitely not something requiring applications want.

That is why CyberWay introduces the prioritization of the bandwidth. That means the bandwidth gets split to a couple of categories:

  1. Guaranteed bandwidth, which works exactly as EOS’s one.

  2. Priority bandwidth, which is defined according to the particular account priority.

How does account earn the priority?

There are couple of ways:

  1. Perform less transactions using the currently available guaranteed bandwidth. The priority lowers as more transactions gets put inside with a single user.

  2. Stake more core asset. The guaranteed/prioritized bandwidth split ratio is set by the cluster validators.

Memory Rent

Cluster RAM is something the applications require to work. In contrast to EOS, CyberWay supposes the RAM to be rented from so-called block producers, but not to be owned. The rules are the following:

  • Every block producer sets a price for 1Kb memory per month. The price begins from the median price value across all block producers.
  • Users place their orders for some particular memory amount rent per month.
  • The order is recognized as emplaced for a week, after that it gets evaluated in case the cluster-wide demanded memory is lower than the amount of proposed one.
  • In case the proposed amount of memory is lower than demanded, proposed memory gets auctioned.

In case the memory rent time is up, but there is still some user data stored inside, the archive operation is introduced. Block producers are in charge of initiating such an archivation and the restore is available for the user for the price median-valued among block producers.

DBMS-based State Storage

In spite of existing so-called “blockchain” databases, CyberWay does not intend to implement the database management software and uses the external DBMS as a state storage for more reliability. For now, only MongoDB is available, but in case of requirements, more are coming. Sucha configuration considered to be troublesome for managing, but more reliable in long term. Embedded state storage is also available in CyberWay. RocksDB is used for the in-memory and in-daemon storage management component that is faster thanMongoDB.

Event Engine

As the state storage engine is incapsulated and factored out of the controller daemon, the event engine is implemented as a helper application, synchronizing and managing the data in external storages.

The input of such an application is a transaction set, each of which gets registered as “processed” and only after this the data are unpacked to state storage.

Such an approach allows to make sure the routine data operations are processed as required and to split the data managing daemon to single responsibility micro-services.

Domain Names

Every created account is not identified with a key as other databases do, but it gets a unique 8 byte identifier encoded in base32. Also a human-readable 63 byte length unique names are available for the assignment for every user. In case of the amount of such names is greater than one, it gets charged and called a “Domain Name”.

Every domain name can be auctioned from base protocol or created by owner of a lower-level domain name. Domain names are transferable and reassignable. Therefore, a need for conversion between a domain name and account identifier gets satisfied with a newly introduced sufficient mechanism much as need for domain transactions. Domain transactions are transactions which get applied to the data only related to the particular domain-name/application.

Protocol Properties

Protocol properties are also got changed comparing to EOS’s ones.

Block Generation

First of all, block generation time is increased for achieving more stable node replication. EOS’s 0.5 second block replication time is fine for most application in case of all the nodes are located in the same datacenter. But for truly distributed protocol, this requires to be increased due to increased network latency. CyberWay supposes the block replication time to be 3 seconds.

Block Producers

Block producers are the key members of a protocol. They keep the database safe and consistent and get rewarded for that.

In spite of EOS’s 21 default block producers, in CyberWay the number of block producers is to be increased up to 101 in the future. This is required for more decentralization to be achieved.

Consensus Algorithm

CyberWay consensus algorithm is heavily inspired by Tezos’ and Cosmos’ one. So, active users are rewarded for voting and non-active users are punished for not voting.

Every account is allowed to vote for several validators with staked tokens.

Block producer’s weigh is determined as follows: w = m / sqrt(S), where m is a number of votes for any particular candidate, S is a total number of votes for any particular candidate (or number of stakes tokens as 1 vote is 1 token).

A particular block producer receives a reward from the emission and redistributes a share of it among his supporters. In case of misbehavior, e.g. a block omission, the block producer as well as his supporters are fined. The staked tokens are burned. This novelty makes block producers more responsible, and voters more careful and thoughtful.

The block producers get a share of emission. The share depends on the total amount of staked tokens. The more tokens are staked, the less inflation is. Thus, the CyberWay has in-built incentives for users to participate in governance via voting. Moreover, the passive users are diluted as they do not get any rewards from validators.

What if some user considers another user to understand better, which block producer is the best service provider? This gets covered by CyberWay with a proxy mechanism which ensures that some user could delegate his own assets to another user called “Proxy”. The proxy user gets fees for its service.

Censorship

In contrast to EOS, CyberWay completely removes any inequality between the users. There are no privileged accounts, no so-called “Constitution”, no blacklists.

Workers

Workers are the mechanism first introduced in BitShares. These are users, who get their issuance share for making improvements for the protocol. The improvement can be registered and referenced by any user, particular improvement to resolve is selected via voting by validators.

Conclusion

CyberWay is a fork of EOS, specified to handle more complex applications with more decentralization available. Workers are considered to be the most powerful tool for decentralized protocol improvements. The scalability and performance CyberWay introduces is fine enough for running complex social applications or financial service applications or gaming applications. The absence of censorship and privileged accounts makes CyberWay more decentralized than EOS, while introduced technical features enable developers to build advanced applications on top of it.

Beginner's Guide to Trading Crypto. Part 5

Talk The Trader Talk: A Journey Into The Realm Of Trader Slang

Slang is a natural evolution of a language under working conditions. Every industry has its own slang vocabulary, which may or may not be composed of morphologies of words directly related to the job. Sometimes situations related to the job may evolve or devolve into adjectives, verbs, nouns of even completely new words that reflect the object in question. To the uninitiated, such terms may sound like gibberish and could well resemble the talk of thugs that has been so vividly presented many times over in television series and movies.

Whether it is pidgin, slang, argot, or a dialect, industries have their own ways of expressing their ins and outs. For instance, the exhaust system of automobiles is often called the "puffer" among mechanics, a "fat finger" is a larger than intended trade among bankers, a "gat" is a weapon among street gangs, and "all day" is a life sentence among prisoners. The lists of slang terms are endless and are an extremely interesting read.

The Trader Lingo

To make sure that MoonTrader users get into the feel of what it is like to be part of the crypto market, we have compiled a comprehensive summary of some of the most widespread slang terms used by traders. Knowing these terms is an important part of working on an exchange, as understanding what traders are talking about is half the job of becoming one of them and being able to delve into the processes taking place. To talk the talk and walk the walk, traders must understand each other and, most importantly, shorten their speech into a mixture of phrases comprehensible only for the initiated and mystical to outsiders.

Babysitting: A slang term used by traders all over the world from Wall Street to the most obscure exchanges in Africa. The term means holding a trade that has been losing out for a while in hopes that it will gain in price, usually in vain. For example: “You’ve been babysitting that option for way too long, it’s a hopeless cause.”

Crunching: A situation in which a stock’s or asset’s price starts falling rapidly and has no support levels. For example: “The XXX stock is going down the drain. It’s crunching, leave it!”

Jig Out: This is a situation when the market makes a sudden turn for the worse and an investor or trader loses out as a result. For example: “The YYY stock jigged out on me today. Lost half a mil.”

Learning Curve: A fairy common expression meaning the amount of time and effort someone, such as a budding new trader, has to put into something to master the art and “learn the ropes”. For example: “The learning curve for Forex is pretty steep.”

Melt: Another fairly common expression that can be encountered in the world of finance, which signifies that a lot of money has been lost and an account has been depleted. For example: “My account melted through today after the market jigged me out on that nut.”

Nut: While nuts may be tasty as a snack or very useful for keeping things bound together with bolts, in trading a nut is the total amount of commissions that have to be paid for a certain trade. For example: “The nut on ZZZ is crazy these days.”

Permabull / Permabear: Since bullish markets are positive and bearish markets are sleepy, the traders working on such a market are called bulls or bears. There are some optimists who believe that such markets are always there. These traders are called permabulls. The opposite are permabears. For example: “Even if the market is dead and floating, he will still act like a permabull”.

Printing on the “O”: If we consider that O is an extreme abbreviation of the term “Override”, then the phrase means that the price of an asset is below the bid price and there is an urgent need to sell it. “XYZ is printing on the Os all day!”

Scalper/Scalping: The idea of scalping is opening hundreds and thousands of small trades in a short amount of time in hopes of generating a large amount of small profits. Scalpers are traders who engage in scalping. For example: “He’s a heck of a scalper.”

Slippage: A common situation for inexperienced traders who lose on assets that are insoluble and cause losses due to higher or lower prices. For example: “He’s been slipping on ZZZ for three weeks in a row.”

Squiggly Lines: Technical analysis consists of graphs and indicators that traders use to make sense of market dynamics. The lines on graphs are never straight, which would mean that the market is comatose, thus they are called squiggly, or uneven lines. For example: “I’ve been staring at the squiggly lines all day and my eyes are popping out.”

Tank: A tank is not only a military machine or a container, but also a verb, which could either mean to fill something up, like a container or a stomach, and also a drop. In this case, tanking means a market collapse. For example: “The market’s tanking! All is lost! All is lost!”

Unicorn, Vulture, Whale: The trading terminology bestiary is full of terms that have gained animalistic form. A unicorn is a situation reminiscent of the mythical beast, when a startup has reached a $1 billion valuation. A vulture is a trader who preys on falling assets and buys them up in hopes that they will rise in the future. A whale is a holder of a large amount of capital or an asset.

Stick: The US dollar has a lot of synonyms from bucks and dough to aces and greenbacks. The stick is another synonym for the US currency used in trading. For example: “Made a K load of sticks today trading XYZ.”

Whack: A fairy straightforward term meaning that a trader has lost a fair amount of money. For example: “I got whacked trading ZZZ the other day.”

Bottom Fishing: There are traders and there are speculators. When a market has “tanked”, assets usually cost much lower and a certain breed of traders emerges who start buying up assets that have lost in value in hopes of selling them off at higher prices later. Such actions are called bottom fishing, or scooping up assets that have floated to the surface of a market like dead fish after a bomb goes off underwater. For example: “The market has sunk today and the sharks are bottom fishing.”

Choppiness: The market is never a calm place and its trials and tribulations are often compared to storms and waves. Since waves can be choppy, or rough in terms of the height of their crests, it is fair to compare market volatility to wavy seas. For example: “The choppiness of the market is not allowing institutional investors to enter with their capital.”

Dark Pools: There is always liquidity on the market that is hid away from average traders. Such liquidity is called a dark pool, which is usually in the hands of special groups. In essence, these are trading volumes created by orders placed by institutional investors.  For example: “The dark pools are buying up Bitcoins real quick.”

Dead Cat Bounce or Rubber Band Effect: Since markets are unpredictable, it is often possible for markets to suddenly rebound after seeming dead for a long time. Such a situation is called a dead cat bounce, or a rubber band effect, which is quite figurative in itself. For example: “The market is preparing for a possible dead cat bounce after the recent wave of news.”

Hodl: A bastardization of the term Hold, misspelled by a drunk BitcoinTalk user, which simply means holding an asset in hopes that it will rise in price. For example: “Hodl Bitcoin! Hodl it!”

Short squeeze: There are situations when an asset suddenly rises in price and forces traders to close their positions. For example: “The holders were forced to short squeeze after the price of ZZZ suddenly spiked”.

Resistance Zone: In technical analysis, this is the area between the current support and resistance areas. Prices usually start resisting other prices in such areas and may start falling. For example: “The resistance area of $120 has been reached for ZZZ and we can expect a decline to areas of $100.”

Fallen Angel: Assets that may have reached price heaven are not guaranteed to stay there and it often happens that a highly valued asset has suddenly lost in price. Usually, this biblical analogy refers to high yielding bonds that once had investment grades. For example: “ZZZ has turned into a fallen angel after the US introduced sanctions against country YYY.”

Fat Tail: In statistics, such cases are called outliers and signify that a value has moved away from the mean and has gained a high degree of riskiness. For example: “ZZZ is showing fat tails and will soon reach non-investment levels.”

Flavor: Given the abundance of types of orders and assets on the market, traders often do not distinguish between them and simply call them different flavors. For example: “How about some ZZZ flavor?”

Hit The Bid: A rather straightforward expression meaning that someone has decided to sell an asset. For example: “The price just hit the low, so go and hit the bid”.

Odd Lot: A lot is usually considered to be a million dollars. An odd lot is anything under a million dollars. For example: “I sold that odd lot of ZZZ yesterday.”

Smoke And Mirrors: The poetic expression has made its way onto the market and means that a corporate entity is distorting the market image in hopes of attaining its own goals, usually to make an asset seem more attractive. For example: “The market is all smoke and mirrors after ZZZ flushed its stocks on.”

The list of trading slang terms is endless in its variety and the only way to fully immerse one’s self into it is trading actively and gaining experience. Years of work on any market in any industry will eventually saturate a participant’s mind with the necessary skills and terminology turn any greenhorn into a pro.

Running Lambda more frequently than once every minute

Hi Guys,

I posted a while ago about getting some help with my first coding project to write the Bitcoin Price to DynamoDB using Lambda ( https://www.reddit.com/r/aws/comments/dm1fla/help_with_aws_lambda_writing_bitcoin_price_to/ ).
