Bitcoin Sold For $1 in August 2019

https://i.redd.it/tqaqxn43hwm31.jpg

In a piece of reality that looks like a huge joke, it is on record that Bitcoin sold for $1 in August 2019 on certain exchanges in the Asian region. The news of this development broke on 23 August 2019 when some of the major exchanges within the region reported a malfunction within their systems.

Apparently, the Amazon Web Services (AWS) network experienced an outage which affected those platforms that were connected to it. Some of the exchanges that were affected include Binance, KuCoin and BitMax.

On the said day, the CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao (CZ) announced through Twitter that his exchange was experiencing some difficulties.

CZ tweeted:

“AWS is having an issue, mostly with caching services, affecting some users globally. We are working with them and monitoring the situation closely.”

During the malfunction, deposits and withdrawals were disabled on the Binance platform. Many replies followed the tweet from CZ with some of them expressing panic. He however continued to reassure his followers until the issue was eventually resolved. From his responses, it was clearly an issue with Amazon’s AWS, which he remained in contact with until it was resolved.

Some traders who played what looked like a wild card took advantage of the situation to buy Bitcoin for less than $1 during the outage. This was reported to have happened on BitMax exchange. Reports claim that these traders had set limit orders at extremely low prices. The hope of these traders was on some off-chance event like what just happened.

According to information that spread on social media, as much as 45 Bitcoins were purchased at sub $1 levels during this period on BitMax. The exchange announced immediate freezing of deposits and withdrawals shortly afterwards. Although it did not confirm that the said transactions had occurred. It’s safe to say that BitMax will never forget the day that Bitcoin sold for $1 in August 2019.

Another exchange that wasn’t spared during this outage is KuCoin. The exchange also disabled part of its services and posted a notice on its website, which read:

“Due to the overheating of part of our chassis in the machine room we deployed in AWS, Tokyo, part of our services might become unavailable. The engineering operation team is currently deploying relevant resources of high availability across regions to deal with any possible emergencies that might happen. Some services might be affected during the deployment.”

The purchase of cheap Bitcoins was confirmed by the founding partner at crypto asset fund Primitive Ventures, operators of KuCoin, Dovey Wan who tweeted:

“Many Asian exchanges see price instability (and trades were able to execute, yes you can buy extremely cheap Bitcoin if you had limit orders there).”

Beyond the three exchanges mentioned so far, several other exchanges within the same region seemed to have encountered the same problem.

The Bitcoin price, which appeared to be finding stability above the $10,000 region seems to have struggled a bit since this development. Although Amazon has resolved the issue and the exchanges have returned to normal services, the Bitcoin price is still struggling below $10,000 (at the time of writing).

Issues like this are some of the limitations that confront centralized exchanges as we have them today. This is where peer-to-peer platforms like Vertex.Market have the upper hand. Risks such as the AWS issue are completely eliminated because trading is not based on an order book that is hosted on a third party platform. Although all of us will remember the day that Bitcoin sold for $1 in August 2019, not everyone will remember it with regrets.

Bitcoin and beyond - The innovative investor’s guide (podcast with Jack Tatar)

On the Brave New Coin Crypto Conversation podcast we speak with Jack Tatar. Jack wrote one of the first books on Bitcoin back in 2013, and he was one of the first financial analysts to recommend allocating a small portion of your portfolio to Bitcoin. He co-authored Crypto Assets, the Innovative Investor’s Guide to Bitcoin and Beyond. Jack says Modern Portfolio Theory suggests that an investment portfolio should allocate 5% towards high-risk, high-return assets such as Bitcoin. Investors can reduce overall risk while maximizing return by holding a diversified portfolio of non-correlated assets.

Learn why Jack thinks Bitcoin hits $20,000 in 2020 and the likely impact of the Bitcoin halving. Plus Jack talks about the altcoin market, his favorite sci-fi novels and the two portfolios he tracks for the Forbes crypto asset newsletter.

CPU usage spikes to 100% then returns back to normal when task manager is opened

I've tried scanning with MBAM incase it was a bitcoin miner (i followed this guide https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/241749-cpu-usage-high-until-i-open-task-manager/).

I haven't downloaded anything recently so idk what program could be the cause of it (if it is a bitcoin miner).

Guaranteed investment money making guide

[BTC] 1.25% PASSIVE INCOME Per Day + Gain Referrals To Your Other Platforms by ClassifiedCrypto

This guide will show you how I currently make $120 dollars per day through passive trades made from compounding my small investment.

How this works:

This website trades BTC on your behalf and returns you 1% - 1.25% per day GUARANTEED for 125 days (that's a 125% - 156.25% return on investment), you can also submit links to your other platforms/businesses you earn on as a form of ad sharing in order to gain referrals! NO KYC OR ID VERIFICATION REQUIRED EVER (INCLUDING WITHDRAW)!!!

To maximize profits, we will be using the power of compound interest to grow our BTC even quicker. Every time you accumulate $5 back from this platform you can choose to reinvest it. If you do this everyday, you will yield 246.82% - 372.41% growth on whatever amount of BTC you initially put in. If you choose to just withdraw your earnings everyday you will still get a return of 125% - 156.25% back during the 125 day period like I said previously. I would highly recommend reinvesting, this will gain you much more money back, I will explain why below.

MY FIRST $100 INVESTMENT MADE ME $472.41 IN A LITTLE OVER 3 MONTHS BY REINVESTING EVERYDAY AND DOING NO REFERRALS (IF I HAD CHOOSE TO ONLY WITHDRAW MY EARNINGS I WOULD HAVE ONLY HAD $156.25 INSTEAD OF THE $472.41 I EARNED FROM COMPOUNDING)!!! A LITTLE OVER 3 MONTHS AFTER THAT, MY $472.41 INVESTMENT BECAME $2,232.11!!! NOW I AM AT $12,650.81 IN UNDER 1 YEAR BY REINVESTING AND MADE OVER $120 FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS BEFORE WRITING THIS AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO WITH A ONLY A FEW MINUTES A DAY!!!

You can calculate your own potential earnings by using a compound interest calculator, like this one that I used to calculate my earnings before starting: http://compoundaily.com/ If you need help calculating your earnings, feel free to message me!

Things needed to start earning:

At least $5 or more in BTC

DXCHAIN: big data meets blockchain (Latest Achievements)

DxChain Testnet 3.0 Innovation and Godx open source

Jinse Finance released the in-depth interview with DxChain Co-founder & CEO James Li, discussed the achievement recently. Please refer to the interview down below.

With the development of technology, we keep changing the way of data storage, from tape CDs to flash drive and mobile hard disk, then to the current popular cloud storage. However, as a centralized storage solution, cloud storage has a high cost for establishing data centers, data center management and operations, including hardware and software procurement, and workforce. There are also privacy leaks and service suspensions leading to file loss and other problems.

With the increasing drawbacks of cloud storage, blockchain storage has gradually attracted people's attention. Blockchain storage is a decentralized storage system built with blockchain incentives and is an effective combination of blockchain and storage systems. Blockchain storage builds nodes around the world into a large-scale globally storage pool, which can effectively reduce storage costs and improve the security of private data.

DxChain is a project dedicated to building a decentralized big data storage and computing public chain. In July this year, the DxChain team officially announced Testnet 3.0 and Godx Project is now open source on GitHub (https://github.com/DxChainNetwork/godx).

James Li, co-founder and CEO of DxChain, pointed out that "The development of technology will never stop. If you relax at this time, it will be surpassed by others. Instead of being revolutionized by others, it is better to revolutionize ourselves. From Testnet 2.0 to 3.0, the DxChain team rewrote the system and implemented several new features."

What’s the new improvements in Testnet 3.0 this time? What is Godx project? Please refer below to James Li’s detailed interpretation.

Storage Contract Implementation DxChain Testnet 3.0 implemented the smart contract feature that is compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine and storage contract protocol with the lightning network. By optimizing the data verification algorithm, a file can be verified in a second.

Once the storage client and host reached an agreement on cost and storage duration, a contract will be signed by both of them. During the contract effective period, each interaction between the client and the host will be considered as a transaction which will be recorded off-chain. To ensure the nonrepudiation of the storage contract and avoid storing excessive data, only the last transaction will be recorded on the chain. At the end of the contract effective period, the storage host will get the collaterals back along with the profits, and the client is able to take back the unspent funds.

In terms of data verification, the entire process is performed off-chain, which improves the storage performance and throughput efficiency while ensuring the security of the data. Once a file is uploaded, it will be encrypted and divided into data shards using a specific encryption and sharding mechanism. Each encrypted data shard will then be distributed to a distinct storage host. At the time a file needs to be restored, only parts of the total data shards are required to recover the original file. In case a storage host went offline or some data shards got corrupted, the file is still accessible by the owner. Since each storage host only has encrypted pieces of the file, it is impossible for them to reveal the content of the original file.

Adaptability and Compatibility Enhancement Solidity is the most common programming language used in the Ethereum Dapp development. By analyzing the Ethereum codes, the DxChain team has combined the Ethereum protocol and the storage protocol. As the result, Dapps running on the Ethereum can directly run on the DxChain.

Modularized Consensus Protocol The DxChai team optimized the system architecture by modularizing the consensus protocol. It not only minimized the code changes when there is a need to upgrade the consensus algorithm, but also provided convenience to developers.

Introduction to DxChain Three Key Features In the blockchain world, code is the law. Open source the Godx project not only eliminates everyone's concerns, but also is a great opportunity for community believers to supervise and to provide valuable suggestions. Ultimately improve DxChain ecosystem and promote DxChain to a community like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The Godx project includes three key feature highlights: Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, storage protocol with lightning network, and zero-second file storage verification algorithm.

Dapp development is based on the public chain, where Ethereum is one of the most popular public chains nowadays. EVM has its unique advantages which makes the development of smart contracts similar to coding. The DxChain team expanded the original EVM by adding the storage contract functionality which is fully compatible with the original virtual machine commands. Thus, the original Ethereum Dapp developers can directly run their application on the DxChain without any modification, which can potentially save developers tons of time on solving issues occurred while migrating the application from Ethereum to DxChain.

By adapting and optimizing the lightning network protocol, the DxChain has implemented its own storage protocol. Through the storage protocol, the two parties who store the file in the main chain are able to sign the contract, carry out the pledge fund and follow up on many details activities (such as uploading/downloading files). When the contract expires or is terminated by other factors, the parties will perform a final settlement and will finalize the results on the chain. By adapting the lightning network protocol, it ensures that the chain can carry out numerous file storage requests without affecting its performance.

The third key feature is zero-second file verification algorithm. DxChain has extended the Merkle Tree, known as Hash Tree, which means a tree that stores hash values. The leaves of the Merkle tree are the hash values of the data blocks. A non-leaf node is a hash of its corresponding child node concatenated string. The main function of Merkle Tree is to get the Top Hash, which represents the information summary of the whole tree. When any data in the tree changes, the value of Top Hash will change. Through the extension of Merkle Tree, DxChain greatly improves the efficiency of verifying and storing files, while reducing the interaction between storage parties in order to eradicate cheating.

James Li revealed that the team has a clear view about our next goal after the Testnet 3.0 release, we will make more efforts on the following three aspects:

1) DPoS consensus protocol implementation 2) petabyte storage supportive 3) overcoming difficulties with file transfering caused by bandwidth limitation

The pursuit of technology is endless. DxChain coruscates new energy and vitality in every breakthrough. We believe DxChain will provide us with a more efficient and safe data storage solution in the future.

DXCHAIN ATTENDED THE SVIEF 2019 “REVOLUTION” SUMMIT AND WON THE INNOVATION AWARD.

DxChain team attended the SVIEF 2019 “Revolution” summit held at the Santa Clara Convention center on September 7-8 and won the honorable title of the TOP 30 Innovation Award.

In addition, DxChain’s Co-founder Allan Zhang was invited as the speaker together with the founder of Bitangel Chandler Guo to share their opinions on Blockchain field development in the panel discussion “Challenges to Blockchain Revolution into the next stage”.

The SVIEF 2019 is designed to be an intense, informative and interactive event that focuses on the theme " Beyond the Next Revolution ", and features 100+ high-profile speakers and 150+ tech exhibitors, bringing together most outstanding startups from the fields of AI, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, Clean Tech, Advanced Manufacturing, Smart Tech, etc.

In the Tech Night Awards Ceremony, DxChain won the Top 30 Innovation Award and unanimous affirmation of the organizer and the scientific and technological people with unique innovative ideas and solid technical progress. Thanks to all the community followers who support and encourage DxChain as always. We have faith in the new era of blockchain!

Here are the highlights of the panel discussion:

Q1: Why do DxChain choose the big data field? The direction of selecting big data is based on the storage problems encountered in real life, such as the large data storage capacity is required and slow storage speed. Therefore, DxChain aims to solve the storage problem with blockchain technology from the most crucial requirements.

Furthermore, data is the most central and fundamental part of technology, the most difficult but also the most valuable. In the future, users can share their idle storage capability in our public chain to form a worldwide network to store numerous files.

Q2. What changes will the blockchain bring to the future?

The technology of the blockchain will affect everyone in the long run. Nowadays, only a few people understand the concept of blockchain. However, we believe that there will be 10 million, 100 million, and 1 billion until everyone participates in the development of the blockchain. Everyone will feel the change brought by the blockchain. DxChain wants to finish the build of blockchain fundamental infrastructure before the concept is popularized to all individuals, and invite more devices and applications to the underlying network of our chain, and contribute to the decentralized storage network.

During the two-day exhibition, DxChain Co-founder and CEO also explained our core concept and technology achievement to blockchain enthusiasts who are interested in DxChain and all participants dropped by our booth.

We highly appreciate the invitation of the SVIEF organizer, wish to see the bright future of blockchain with you all.

Avoiding capital gains by borrowing against asset

I own bitcoin. I want to avoid directly selling it because I do not want to realize the capital gains and pay large % taxes. However, I suppose this question could apply to other assets like gold or stocks.

My understanding is that borrowing against bitcoin is a non taxable event. Thus, I can borrow USD against bitcoin without capital gains.

My question is, can I use these borrowed USD funds to buy new bitcoin and sell THOSE(new) bitcoin without tax concerns? Of course Im still responsible for repaying the USD loan.

There will also be interest on the loan and the loan would be overcollateralized, but these points can be ignored for tax purposes I believe.

And yes this hypothetical is not a great idea, but it helps me understand the tax treatment of "borrowed-bitcoin bought with USD acquired by lended-bitcoin".

Bobby Lee Returns With Ballet, a Crypto Hardware Wallet for the Masses

More than a year after he sold one of China’s longest-running bitcoin exchanges, Bobby Lee, co-founder and former CEO of BTCC, is back.

Announced Thursday at CoinDesk’s Invest: Asia event in Singapore, Lee’s new venture, Ballet, is rolling out a hardware wallet supporting multiple cryptocurrencies.

To differentiate its product and spur adoption outside crypto circles, Ballet will generate public addresses and private keys for users in advance.

Lee believes this design will make it easier for people who have no exposure to crypto to get hands-on experience with the asset without having to go through the set-up process most hardware wallets require.

“We wanted to create a wallet that is simple and elegant. And that is what we’ve done,” Lee said on stage Thursday.

The wallet, also dubbed Ballet, is a piece of metal the size of a credit card that prints a QR code associated with the cryptocurrency wallet address set up by Lee’s firm.

On each wallet, beneath the QR code, there is a string of printed encryption code. At the bottom of the card, there’s another string of encryption code that’s coated, which a user must scratch off in order to see.

The Astonishing Number of Cryptocurrencies Created Every Year

There are 2419 cryptocurrencies in existence today, according to data from CoinmarketCap. These are tokens that have met the minimum requirements by the platform to qualify for listing. The rate at which these tokens arrive on the scene represents the astonishing number of cryptocurrencies created every year.

Launched in 2013, the token listing platform has over the years become a universally accepted portal for information about cryptocurrencies and exchanges. Participants in the cryptocurrency industry use CoinmarketCap for both information and research purposes.

Because of how widely CoinmarketCap is accepted in the industry, many startups in the blockchain industry work hard to ensure that their coins get listed on the platform. Perhaps this is the reason why we see such an influx of cryptocurrencies on the data-providing platform every year.

2013

The CoinmarketCap listing platform launched in April 2013 with only 7 coins on its list. Gradually, the list grew and by December of the same year, had a total of 67 different cryptocurrencies on the platform.

Growth in awareness and increase in cryptocurrency activities saw more projects emerge and a number of cryptocurrencies grow. By that time the Bitcoin price was at $745 and the total cryptocurrency market capitalization was $10,364,136,026.

2014

By 2014, the cryptocurrency market exploded with many more projects arriving on the scene. The controversies that surrounded Bitcoin at the time, plus the regulatory concerns contributed to the global recognition of the technology. More and more projects emerged, and the number of cryptocurrencies increased.

By December 2014, the Bitcoin price had slumped to around $317, while the market capitalization of the entire cryptocurrency market also dropped to $5,555,954,557. However, the number of cryptocurrencies increased to 517, representing an addition of 450 coins to the list in a single year.

2015

In 2015 the cryptocurrency market began to pick up again. Not as many new coins were listed as per the previous year, but the price of Bitcoin rose to $422 and total market capitalization also increased to $6,946,919,35.

A total number of 67 new cryptocurrencies were added that year. This contributed to the astonishing number of cryptocurrencies created every year. At the end of 2015, we had 577 cryptocurrencies listed on CoinmarketCap.

2016

2016 arrived with a lot of interesting events in the cryptocurrency industry. The most prominent of which were all the events surrounding the Ethereum network and regulatory issues in the industry as a whole. In the end, the awareness in the industry was sky-high, and Ethereum-based dApps began to populate the industry.

This is the season that heralded the ICO boom era, and by the end of 2016, the number of coins listed on CoinmarketCap was 663. Total cryptocurrency market capitalization swelled to $16,385,559,809, and the Bitcoin price sat at $896.

2017

2017 was one of the most active years so far in the cryptocurrency marketplace. This was the year when all kinds of projects were launched and many new users entered the cryptocurrency industry. All kinds of projects emerged, taking advantage of the deregulated cryptocurrency market.

A total of 690 new coins found their way into the marketplace and were listed on Coinmarketcap. It was in this year that the Bitcoin price, and that of many other cryptocurrencies, made their most significant surge. The market expanded and adoption increased. At the end of 2017, the Bitcoin price was at $14,156 while the total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies was $614,240,509,703.

2018

The success of 2017 ushered the market into the year long crypto winter of 2018. After reaching an all-time high of $20,089 in January 2018, Bitcoin price slumped, dragging with it all other cryptocurrencies in the market. Activities dropped in the industry, but that did not stop the addition of 720 new coins to the list on Coinmarketcap. This raised the coins list to 2073.

By the end of 2018, the Bitcoin price was down to $3,865, and the cryptocurrency market capitalization slumped to $130,538,793,513.

2019

The market has picked up in 2019, especially since the beginning of the second quarter. Bitcoin price is at $11,763 and the market capitalization has risen up to $309,881,028,557. It is still the beginning of August 2019, and we have already witnessed an addition of 346 coins, bringing the total number of coins to 2419. We expect to see this number increase before the end of the year.

Conclusion

Although there are so many cryptocurrencies in the market today, not all of them still have value. Majority of the coins are regarded as dead coins because their underlying blockchain does not have sufficient network effect. This is usually as a result of low adoption and probably the lack of a viable use case.

This situation has left a lot of investors with coins that cannot be exchanged for any reasonable value. It also leaves the marketplace littered with non-active projects that need to make way for a cleaner ecosystem.

This is why CoinJanitor has come up with a solution that would restore value for those communities that are stuck with dead coins. The project will exchange the dead coins for its much more valuable JAN tokens. This will give investors the opportunity to recover their funds, and at the same time make for a cleaner marketplace. This is because the retrieved dead coins will eventually be burned, and their blockchains ineffective.

This is a necessary process for the emerging technology which needs all the sanity it can afford. The astonishing number of cryptocurrencies created every year has not helped matters in this case. However, perhaps you are stuck with some dead coins, you can simply visit the CoinJanitor websiteto submit them and embark on your value restoration journey.
