A few questions from a noob

I’m just getting started and need some advice and questions answered.

  1. I’m only using my iPhone for this so would it be a good idea to setup cashapp then schedule it to buy maybe $10-20 (USD) worth of bitcoin a month?

  2. Is now a good time to get into this or should I wait for a dip? (If there even will be one anytime soon...)

  3. If cashapp is a good idea... then what wallet for iOS would you recommend? I don’t really want to invest in an offline wallet yet since I’m just getting started.

  4. I’ve read about the “not your keys, not your coins” thing so how would I have my own keys with a digital wallet on iOS?

  5. Is there anyway to do this anonymously or close to anonymously on iPhone? (Since that’s kind of the point of them)

  6. Lastly, in terms of taxes... is transferring bitcoin from an exchange to a wallet a taxable event? Or is that only if I sell them? (Which I wouldn‘t)

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance!

Weekly Wrap: This Week In Chainlink November 16 - November 22

Weekly Wrap: This Week In Chainlink November 16 - November 22

Announcements and Integrations 🎉

Ethereum sidechain @MaticNetwork has successfully integrated Chainlink natively on its mainnet. Chainlink oracles can now be used by Matic's growing DeFi ecosystem to maintain collateralization, price synthetic assets, settle prediction markets, & more.

Leading Ethereum-based blockchain game @AxieInfinity will use both Chainlink Price Feeds & VRF. Axie is using the ETH/USD Price Feed to set exchange rates for purchasing Axies on its marketplace & VRF to generate provably fair NFTs w/ rare mystic traits.

Through our documentation, @BaseProtocol launched a POC Chainlink oracle for aggregated crypto market cap data. Now transitioning to mainnet, Base Protocol is using the Chainlink Network to decentralize its rebasing mechanism for enhanced oracle security.

@SynLevDefi, synthetic leveraged asset pairs tokenized on Ethereum, is using Chainlink Price Feeds live on mainnet to obtain fair market valuations on the underlying assets. Chainlink ensures these assets are accurately priced in a decentralized manner.

@value_defi will use Chainlink Price Feeds to relaunch its MultiStables Vault with guarantees around data quality, oracle security & full market coverage. The integration will protect the Vault against flash loan attacks & other on-chain oracle exploits.

Decentralized law protocol @paid_network will use Chainlink VRF to pick random arbitrators used to settle disputes. Chainlink VRF is a secure, transparent way of ensuring that all qualified judges have fair odds of selection.

We’re thrilled to award a Community Grant to @irisnetwork for a native integration of Chainlink into @bsnbase. This integration will enable governments and enterprises throughout the world to build universally connected smart contracts on BSN.

What’s New for Developers 🛠

The ecosystem of Decentralized Finance (DeFi) applications and the value secured by blockchain oracles are scaling in tandem, mutually supporting the success and growth of one another. As the value secured by DeFi continues to grow at a rapid pace, so does the importance of ensuring that this revolutionary new decentralized financial ecosystem provides a higher level of security and reliability guarantees to its users.

Chainlink nodes run the secure oracle infrastructure that supplies dApps with off-chain data. Using our docs, learn how to launch your own Chainlink node to either build a Proof of Concept oracle for testing or earn revenue by selling data to blockchains.

Chainlink Price Feeds secure billions in value for leading DeFi dApps. Start leveraging them in your smart contracts by using our docs to find mainnet & testnet addresses of oracle networks that provide tamper-proof price data for all the top asset pairs.

We're committed to providing developers with decentralized price oracles resistant to flash loans. Integrate our DAI/USD Price Feed to build new markets around one of DeFi's most popular stablecoins, already used & supported by @DMMDAO and @CelsiusNetwork.

We continue to put more data on-chain so smart contract developers can build advanced DeFi dApps. Integrate our new TUSD Proof of Reserve oracles for data on both its off-chain reserves & on-chain supply to ensure full collateralization of TUSD collateral.

Featured Videos & Educational Pieces 🎥

  • Flash Loans and the Importance of Tamper-Proof Oracles
    • As DeFi grows in Total Value Locked, secure data feeds become more important than ever. In our latest post, we explain flash loan funded price oracle attacks & how developers can use Chainlink oracles to protect their dApps against market manipulation.

[WTS] Big Sale, Need Fiat to Invest in tools - I will be updating all day with new items

I need to raise some fiat to pay off some bills and get myself some new tools for pouring - including a JSB maker mark stamp and a new 2 oz bar stamp (which are actually expensive AF), an electric furnace (the same price as the two stamps lol), a mill, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I had intended to do this previously but I didn't quite get the funds I needed. I'm trying again to see what we can do.

I am going through my stack today to see what to sell and what to hold, so I will be updating with new items all day. Every item will likely have its own verification picture as a result.

I'm open to reasonable above spot offers.

Onto the items

Lot of (2) 10 oz Bars for $540 shipped or $275 each shipped

Lot of (3) Pyromet Silver Cards - $95 shipped

(24) 2020 Kangaroo - $648 for all (24) or $27 each

Lot of (4) 2020 Maplegrams sold

2020 Germania with COA $45 plus ship

$4.40FV in War Nickels - $119 plus ship

Details:

I'm listing as lots but I'm willing to split up reasonably.

Shipments will be USPS first class for $4.50-$6.50, for 1 to roughly 8 ounces, or priority for $8, for over 8 ounces.

Payment by PPFF, Zelle, Bitcoin, and ETH

Prices are subject to change at any time due to market fluctuations and in the event of a listing error or update.

Ready to jump in (Where I hope to discuss getting started)

Good morning everyone.

I've read the FAQ on this site and r/Bitcoin. I was all ready to get started. I started setting up an account on Coinbase, but then I got to the bank information page. Because it asked for my bank username and password, I stopped. I read some of the other comments on the FAQ and found out that the majority of people dislike and distrust Coinbase.

The purpose of this post, then, is to figure out what I need to do to get started. I want to talk through my plans, so that if I have a bad idea (like I did with Coinbase) someone can redirect me.

First, I want to download a wallet app. I have heard of Etherium; should I do anything differently?

Second, I want to get a hardware wallet. I only want bitcoin. I think Coldwallet is going to be my choice.

Third, I want to Dollar Cost Average. I don't have much to invest at the moment, but I know that DCA is a good long-term strategy (particularly with volatile investments). Related to this, I read an article (I believe it was Nerdwallet) that said that every bitcoin buy is a taxable event. That is, I need to pay taxes every single time I buy bitcoin. If so, that would change my strategy of DCA.

Finally, what are the taxes when bitcoin is sold? I'm in this for the long haul, I think, and I may never sell my bitcoin for USD, simply because I lack faith in the monetary and banking system long term. However, I do want to be armed with knowledge in case this does become a wise choice.

I appreciate your time. Please let me know if you have any further advice. Thank you!

My exchange banned from buying bitcoin last night

Apparently bitcoin is "unstable" and they prevent people now from buying bitcoin on their exchanges.

We've just had the biggest event in our lifetimes where most stocks and shares have almost gone to zero, some never returning to their once high prices.

They said, "bitcoin is going through one of these cycles and we will let you buy again once it becomes more stable". Like wtf does this mean.

But I already know what this means.,

GBTC and PayPal have taken up 100% of the miners newly minted bitcoin. It's institutional war on bitcoin and they know soon bitcoin price is only going one way and one way faster than you can even care to celebrate. You know what to do and do it now. HODL

VETV7 ESPORTS (Garena's Lolesports channel in Vietnam) just streamed a Bitcoin talkshow. They have privated the stream.

The link to the privated stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVwI_Fngyfg

Garena has continued the tradition of robbing their playerbase with gacha events while simultaneously mining the shit out of your computer. This time they even introduce their players to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency. I doubt Riot is going to do something about this.

Bitcoin Region Worlds 2021 champions!!!!

Make a Prediction - $10,000 in BTC to Be Won!

Create an account on coinmarketcap and binance to participate — enter three time slots when you think Bitcoin will hit $20,000.

How does it work?

  1. Log in to your CoinMarketCap account to participate in the prediction game, “When Will Bitcoin Hit $20,000?”

  2. Bind your Binance account ID to your CoinMarketCap account.
*Please note that this address will be used to distribute your potential winnings.
**Each Binance account ID can ONLY be added to one CoinMarketCap account. Please make sure to use your own account ID accurately .

  3. The time slots you can enter are hour-long time periods (e.g. November 21 5:00 - 6:00 AM UTC). The earliest time slot you can choose is 24 hours from when you participate.

  4. You can ONLY enter up to three time slots. You are able to update the time slots any time before this event ends. If you update your time slots, your previous slots are deemed invalid.

  5. The price of a BTC/USDT trading pair on Binance (shown in the chart below) will be used to track and determine the BTC price movement.

  6. When the price of BTC/USDT on Binance hits $20,000 for the first time (“Event Trigger”), the date and the hour will be recorded as the winning time slot.

  7. All users who predict correctly will be ranked based on the time they entered the time slots — which means you should start predicting right away! The reward structures are as follows:
    1st place: $2,000 in BTC
    2nd place: $1,500 in BTC
    3rd place: $1,000 in BTC
All the other users who entered the winning time slot will share $5,500 in BTC evenly.

  8. The prizes will be distributed to the Binance accounts of the winning participants within five working days after the completion of the event.

  9. The event will end when either of the following happens first : 1) The date Bitcoin hits $20,000; 2) January 19, 2021 UTC

Good Luck!
