Cash out through online gambling? Or am I going mental?

Let's say the local Bitcoin ATM is charging a 10% fee for turning crypto to cash, but two bookmakers (one crypto and one fiat) each offer the same sporting event, with roughly the same odds and a 5% margin.

Could I use the crypto bookmaker to cover the less likely outcome, the fiat bookmaker to cover the more likely outcome, watch the sporting event, (probably) lose the crypto and withdraw the cash, minus 5%?

Not to mention the sweet little bonuses both bookmakers would be vying to give me, nor the fact I could dodge taxes because "gambling winnings are tax-free"...

Where do you think we are on the journey to mass adoption? My take based on the Diffusion of Innovation theory. Links to resources provided.

Hi all,

I want to take a moment to explain the way I think about where we are in the cryptocurrency space and where we can go from here. To do this, I apply Everett M. Rogers' (1962) Diffusion of Innovation theory, which is normally displayed in a normal distribution curve, shown here.

In sociology, innovation is broadly described as, "an accumulation of many individual items over a relatively long period of time" as "no innovation springs full-blown out of nothing: it must have antecedents (events that come before the innovation)" [1].

So in terms of cryptocurrency, I think we all know that the 2008 fiat US financial collapse was the antecedent to the Bitcoin whitepaper written by Satoshi Nakamoto [2]. This was the initial innovation, combining cryptography, digital signatures, and the proof-of-work mentality, ideas that were applied for other uses, into a new idea of a peer-to-peer version of electronic cash.

This initial innovation is where we begin on the diffusion of the innovation curve.

Diffusion of Innovation Curve

So Satoshi Nakamoto is BEFORE the 2.5%, the creators of any product or service development. Next is what follows based on this theory.

I would be interested to know where you all think we are based on this theory:

Innovators: These individuals are those who seek out and embrace new innovations, and are not afraid of the risks associated with the new idea [3]. Here I like to think about the "Bitcoin Pizza" guy and all those tragic stories of those who have lost hard drives containing hundreds of BTC on them. These were people who were taking on the risk of a new idea, regardless of where it could have gone. These individuals need little if any information to come on board if the idea sounds good to them [4].

Early Adopters: These are the individuals who are open to change, but respect the social system that surrounds them. This means that they are a bit more risk-averse than their innovator counterparts but adopt new innovations more willingly than the majority of their social system around them [3]. It is at this point that people like "social media influencers" begin to come on board, sparking interest and encouraging more adoption. It is also at this point, that I believe, this subreddit was created to build a community of those who are also early adopters of the new idea.

Early Majority: The early majority makes up about 1/3 of the marketplace within a specific system. These are your "average" members of society, those that come on board when it becomes the "cool thing to do." These individuals typically need to see some evidence that the innovation works, and there is some staying power to the new idea [4]. This is where your friends start to come on board, one by one. They begin to see your success or happiness using the new innovation, so they inquire about your new development.

Late Majority: While early adopters tend to be younger and more familiar with technology in general, the late majority are those of the population that is older and more reluctant to adopt the "latest trends" [5]. These individuals tend to need a lot of examples of success stories regarding innovation in order to jump on and accept the new idea in their everyday life. This is when parents and distant family begin to adopt the innovation after much nagging and conversation. Think about when parents first started to adopt social media years after their children were using it every day.

Laggards: These individuals only try new innovations when fear and pressure push them to do so [4]. We saw this in full force when COVID disrupted everything and the laggards that owned businesses and who refused to have a website, refused to have a social media presence, and refused to participate in online ordering, were forced to change based on the fear of losing their business and the pressure to "get with the times."

TL;DR

So, by strictly applying this theory in the cryptocurrency sphere, I think that we are between the early adopters and the early majority. Right on the line that divides them. For the past couple of weeks I have been polling those in the daily discussion threads and gathered the following:

  1. Many of you agree that crypto is in the early stages. The majority of you have friends and family that are still skeptical, and most of you are investing alone as those you talk to will listen, but are not ready to jump on.
  2. Many of you seemed to agree that crypto is still difficult to "get into." Difficult to transfer, buy things with, and properly store.
  3. However, we have all seen the headlines, companies like Tesla, PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard are all coming on board. CNBC now regularly talks about Bitcoin, and the concept of BTC is creeping into the news cycle every day.
  4. Yet, Bitcoin is about as far as the news goes when talking about cryptocurrency. Only Reddit, YouTube and blogs will talk about ETH or ALTs in general.

All of this leads me to think that we are, in fact, making our way to the mainstream adoption, and can all take pride in being part of the small group that finds an innovation before the masses and reaps the benefit of shaping that innovation as it grows, and are on the forefront of a technology that will shape our financial space forever.

Thanks for sticking with me.

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Complete Explanation of Smartlands

What is Smartlands?

With more and more investors coming in, I think it is important to clearly explain the function of Smartlands and where it is starting. Feel free to share this article when trying to describe how Smartlands work and is trying to achieve.

The first thing to consider is the difference between the Smartlands Platform and the SLT Token, as those are two different things. Let's start with the Platform and come back to the Token.

Smartlands describes itself as a Digital Platform to Raise Capital and Trade Assets, by the form of Tokenizing assets.

So, what does that mean exactly? We will break it down one by one:

Tokenizing an Asset:

A Token is simply the “crypto” word representing a “share”, or a portion of something.

For example, 1 x TSLA is equivalent to a share of the company Tesla Inc.
The same way 1 x BTC is a portion of the supply of total Bitcoins that exist.

An Asset simply means a resource or valuable thing such as a commercial building, a company, a Picasso, a container full of wheat grains, etc.

Tokenizing an Asset would then mean the ability to split an Asset into tiny shares.

Let’s say you own an apartment building worth 1 Million $, on paper it would say that you own just this: 1 apartment building worth 1 Million $.

If you Tokenize this building, this building would be split into lots of mini portions and you would now own 1000 mini shares of that building, or Token in our case, each worth 1/1000 of the Building so 100$ each.

Obviously, the building will not be physically cut apart into 1000 small pieces, it’s just that after registering the Building on Smartlands, it would say you own all 1000 portions of 100$ each instead of owning 1 building of 1 Million $.

Now, why would you do that you might think? Well, raising capital ↓

Raise Capital:

Let’s take this 1 Million $ apartment example again. You might suddenly see an opportunity to invest in a company, you decide to get married and go on a honeymoon, you see a very cheap house for sale on the market, Bitcoin is in a bear market and you want to buy some, etc.

If all you had was that 1 Building, you could not take part in those opportunities unless you sell the full building. In regards to real estate, yes, you could mortgage the building and borrow money from the bank, but then you would be in debt, owing to the bank money and have to pay it back with interest.

I am sure you’re seeing it coming, but the other solution would be to list your building on Smartlands, have it split into mini tokens, and only sell the amount you need. This is what the sentence: get liquidity out of an illiquid asset actually means.

Let’s say you need 100 000 $ right away, then you could sell 100 shares of your building and keep the other 900 shares worth 900 000 $.

Of course, to sell 100 shares, you need buyers.

Once you list those 100 shares on Smartlands, investors will have a chance to acquire them. If you are familiar with the concept of the website Kickstarter, it will be fairly similar. The Owner will have to launch a “funding campaign” where his 100 shares will be up for grabs at 1000$ each. Once/if they are all bought, then the funding is successful: the investors then pay and receive their shares, while the Owner receives his 100 000$.

This also means the Owner does not have to find one big buyer, he now has a pool of thousands (or millions eventually) of potential buyers. Is it easier to sell one big pie or 10 pieces of a pie?

As an investor looking to buy shares from assets, when going on the Smartlands Platform you will get to choose to participate in the initial Asset funding rounds or purchase asset shares that older investors are re-selling.

Many different Assets will be listed there. Let’s say someone owns the Empire State Building and tokenizes it, you could then purchase some ESB tokens. Let’s say a Florist lists his business, you could then buy FLRT tokens.

So, what’s so nice about buying small portions of big assets you might think? Let’s explore it below ↓

Trade Assets:

There are 2 reasons why you would want to buy the token of an asset:

  1. Re-sell it after it has appreciated in value
  2. Gain passive income if that asset is generating revenue

You would own a portion of an asset for the same reason you would own shares in the stock market. Your goal is for it to go up in value over time and then re-sell it. As we all know, the Real Estate market keeps climbing up. A building worth 1 Million $ 10 years ago might now be worth 2 Million $. It’s very high returns, but you need money to make money, 1 Million $ ain’t cheap.

What happens if you do not have enough money to buy a large asset like this then? Thankfully Smartlands is here to let you buy small portions.

Reselling it is not all though, assets listed on Smartlands will likely be revenue-generating assets and by owning a share of it you are entitled to receive those as well.

In the case of an apartment building, it collects rent every year and although there are some management fees to it (taxes, Janitor, Plumber, etc.), profits left will be distributed pro-rata to the shareholders.

This is huge since it now means doors are opened for small investors to own something else than bonds and stocks, they can be in the same real estate game as the rich folks, which has a higher yield.

An Asset is not limited to Real estate and we will look at some examples below, but first, let’s explore what the SLT Token has to do in all this.

---

SLT Token:

The first thing to consider is that the SLT Token has absolutely nothing to do with all the Asset Tokens. When someone goes on Smartlands to buy some Empire State Building Tokens (ESB), they don’t see any SLT on there or anything related to crypto. The crowd that will invest in those Asset tokens is not the crypto crowd, it’s just regular individuals (from poor to very rich) that want to invest their money somewhere. The who owns what is all determined by Blockchain in the background, but they don’t see it, it stays simple for them.

Now, Buying and Holding SLT is simply a way to receive revenues from fees that the Smartlands platform collects since using the Smartlands platform is not free. There are fees when you list an asset and when you resell your asset shares. 1/3 of all those fees are redistributed pro-rata to the SLT holders.

The more Assets are getting Listed and the more Assets are being Traded, the more revenue you receive by holding SLT.

So, when buying SLT, you are betting that Smartlands will be used and thus generate fees.

When buying the token ESB, you are betting that the Empire State Building will be worth more in a couple of years and that they are able to rent their office spaces to generate revenue.

If you want more details in regards to the actual Tokenomics behind all this (fee detail & revenue potential), please have a look at this other article:

The 4 Pillars of Smartlands:

Since an “Asset” can be pretty large/vague, let’s look at the different market verticals that we know Smartlands is tackling. Those initial projects will serve as use cases to then expand to other countries and avenues.

1) Real Estate:

The first big project that Smartlands will launch with its platform this month will be with 3 big Real Estate buildings in Ukraine. We are waiting for the exact details, but estimate a couple of millions in tokenized shares. It is only the start though, Smartlands is partnered with Colliers International, a global estate service and investment management company.

Ukraine was chosen since it’s one of the most crypto-friendly countries out there and Stellar is working with the Ukraine Government to establish a national digital currency (SLT is based on the Stellar network). They went with the path of least resistance as we know legality is the toughest hurdle to overcome, but Ukraine is just the starting line.

We even recently learned that the legal framework for this Ukraine project is finalized and ready for launch, which is excellent news as it clears the only thing that could halt this project.

Details here: https://smartlands.io/blog/the-fee-pool-and-ukraine-explained/

2) SMEs:

Smartlands has recently announced a collaboration with the Ukraine startup incubator BigU, which is supported by the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine.

This will offer a way for startup companies to raise capital via the Smartlands platform. For the first time, smaller companies can now easily sell shares of themselves without having to go public on the stock market. They have access to a bigger pool of private investors and don’t have to sell large equity of their business to predatory Venture Capital companies.

It opens the door for Smartlands to list any SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises), and not only Real Estate (if you had not realized it, this is huge).

Details here: https://smartlands.io/blog/business-incubator-group-ukraine-big-u-and-smartlands/

3) Bulk products:

Smartlands has entered a Joint Venture with the Agriculture trading platform Agroxy, which lets farmers buy agricultural products from other sellers. Small farmers have trouble competing against mega-farms that are able to buy their product in bulk (for example, complete silos of seeds and compost at a time).

Merged with Smartlands, farmers will be able to band together and each buy small shares of bulk product and pay a much lower amount for it. Each trade will generate a fee for Smartlands. This shows that Smartlands can also be used purely as a trading platform, and not only for investments.

We recently learned (last Friday) that Smartlands decided to introduce Agroxy to a large chain of companies and scale the agricultural ecosystem. They are negotiating several big partnerships for quite a long time and are hoping to release good news very soon.

Details here: https://smartlands.io/blog/farming-in-a-blockchain-enabled-world/

4) Art:

Smartlands recently participated in the latest NFT roundtable event in Kyiv. This confirms Smartlands can be used to literally tokenize everything, including something like a physical piece of Art. Imagine being able to buy a share of a Picasso, held in trust in a museum or vault. It would not generate income but would certainly appreciate in value over time. You can also say you own a Picasso, along with being a Real Estate Mogul owning properties all across the planet..

Details here: https://smartlands.io/news/recap-of-the-roundtable-discussion-how-ukraine-will-become-the-world-leader-in-the-nft-technologies-market/

---

Future Catalysts:

With that said, I hope this helped clear out things about what Smartlands is all about, and how far it can go. By opening Blockchain technology to real use cases, which has monetary benefits for asset owners and investors, it can truly be disruptive.

I will leave you with future events we are awaiting, which could attract more investors in the short term:

  1. Details on the Real Estate properties (April)
  2. Exact Date of the Platform launch of Smartlands (April)
  3. Details about the new Agroxy partnerships
  4. AMA of the CEO on r/Stellarbets and r/Altstreetbets
  5. Tier 1 Exchange (April)
  6. Marketing campaign (That’s it, it even hasn’t started yet, visibility is at 0, lots of potential)

Oh one last thing, it only has a Marketcap of 65 Million ;)

Yours truly,
Dr. Poplovski

The Athletic - crypto in sports business NFT ticketing - GET protocol

The athletic a major sports medium covered the application of blockchain in the sports industry. For the article they spoke to Ted Leonsis (NBA and NHL teamowner). The soltion and the business activities he describes are very similar to GET protocol, an NFT ticketing moonshot. The athletic article is in the second part of this post

GET protocol - NFT ticketing

GET protocol NFT ticketing has given their monthly update full of excting update to look forward to. I will briefly highlight the most exciting features

  • 30% of the total circulating supply has been burned from the treasury the reemaining part will be used be controlled by GET holders in a DAO treasury

transaction link https://etherscan.io/tx/0xdae264ab994d105e3c1fefb9267908c0e67a3e6a55bfc2bc99fe2325a6479d75

  • NEW TICKETING company in April adopting the GET protocol in April

"There are several whitelabel parties approaching the moment of publication. I can’t wait for you to be able to check them out and Sherlock everything there is to know. We will likely be introducing at least one, quite possible multiple new whitelabel candidates to you in the month of April.

  • Talk of interested parties of different caliber - my personal guess is that these types of parties are the size of NBA owners Mark Cuban and Ted Leonsis. Both have recently publicy stated the benefits of NFT ticketing. The exact ticketing solution GET is offering.

https://cryptoslate.com/forget-overvalued-artwork-mark-cuban-sees-nft-ticketing-as-the-mass-market-disruptor/

https://www.sportico.com/business/tech/2021/ted-leonsis-blockchain-ticketing-1234624872/

  • more utillity for the GET token. Besides tokenburn based on ticketsales, GET tokens now have the utillity of governance of the DAO GET treasury aswell
  • Team is doubling the next 12 months, currently got 25 teammembers and it will double to 50. This shows the amount of the interest in the GET protocol from the industry. The company needs to scale up rapidly to deal with all new requests

" The current goal is to double the team over the next twelve months. And then to double it again."

GET still is a low market cap coin that has lots of potentional to grow short term and long term. It's marketcap rank is only around the range of 300 on coingecko. Do your own research I still think GET is very undervalued compared to any other crypto project. No project with a similar marketcap has the same amount of adoption.

Intresting extracts due to a (soft) paywall

NFT tickets

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is a tech billionaire who is all-in on blockchain and NFTs. He doesn’t, however, place much significance on whether or not fans will shift from traditional cash to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Dogecoin. Instead, he’s more interested in the wider business applications of all the technology.

“Everything is on the table. But I think the least important is using crypto as a currency. There are already gateways that enable that, so it’s simple for anyone to add,” Cuban said.

An NBA team owner/co-owner committee was recently formed to study blockchain technology and it includes Cuban, Ted Leonsis (Wizards), Joe Tsai (Nets), Steve Pagliuca (Celtics), Vivek Ranadive (Kings) and Ryan Sweeney (Jazz). All come from tech or finance backgrounds, indicative of a common denominator for sports team owners in the modern age.

One area that team owners are expected to try to apply blockchain is ticketing. Most entry into sports events now is done via digital applications rather than paper tickets, for both front-end retail sales and for the resale market. Putting tickets on blockchain theoretically allows teams and leagues to get a slice of secondary market sales when a buyer sells their ticket to someone else.

Leonsis made the case for blockchain-based ticket tracking in a recent call with The Athletic. He posed the example of a fan reselling a $150 face-value season ticket for $1,000.

“You made $850 and I didn’t share, the player didn’t share, the league didn’t share,” said Leonsis, a former AOL executive who also owns the WNBA’s Washington Mystics and NHL’s Washington Capitals.

He also said he’s interested in the technology to expand the global footprint for his teams beyond their local markets.

“I’m really interested in how to get out of the notion that I own a sports team and I have local media rights and a local market and I’m only as good as the size of my market. That to me is what is so interesting here,” Leonsis said. “There are eight billion people on the planet; six billion connected to high-speed internet; 500 million with interest in basketball. I have the Washington Capitals and I have 20,000 seats that I can sell to people 41 times a season. My market seems finite. A global market seems infinite.”

He theorized that could include selling NFT tickets to fans who’ll never attend a game in person but are willing to pay for digital keepsakes.

“A buyer can hold onto the memory, then resell the ticket,” he said. “I can sell a ticket to eight billion people. Previously, I could sell a ticket to 800,000 or 10 million, whatever is in your market. When people start to wrap their heads around this, it will be astounding the sea change this represents.”

Does anybody else not understand half of the financial stuff on this subreddit?

I’ve been messing with bitcoin for a few years but I am new to forums discussing it so maybe this is normal but, I read posts on this sub talking about bull flags, chart formations, cat formations, EFT/NFT, options etc etc you get it. Am I missing something that I should be knowing?

I understand bitcoin/how the blockchain works, makes sound money good money and why fiat is shit and the events leading to our current shit fiat system.

Is there other stuff I should be studying? I don’t know, I couldn’t care less about stocks and regular financial stuff. I just know what Bitcoin is and what it can do so I buy it and forget it. I just can’t shake the feeling that I’m missing something though with all these other things I don’t understand.

Top stories this week for Cyber Security Headlines - Week in Review (March 19-April 2, 2021)

Every Thursday at 4pm PT/7pm ET, CISO Series hosts a short 20-minute show summarizing the top cybersecurity news stories for the week. The show is hosted by reporter Steve Prentice and we welcome a cyber practitioner to offer some color to the week's stories. Our guest this week/tonight is James Dolph, CISO, Guidewire Software.

Here are some of the stories we’re going to be covering. If you want to get involved you can watch live and participation in the discussion on Crowdcast (register), or you can just subscribe to the Cyber Security Headlines podcast and get it into your feed.

Here are some of the stories we'll be covering.

Senators offer to let NSA hunt cyber actors inside the US

A bipartisan group of senators offered to help expand the National Security Agency’s authority allowing the spy agency to hunt domestically for signals intelligence against foreign adversaries that U.S. officials have said are behind a string of recent attacks, like SolarWinds and the Microsoft Exchange Servers hacks. Gen. Paul Nakasone, who leads both the NSA and U.S. Cyber Command told senators that the U.S. was unable to keep up with the threat in large part because laws prevent NSA and Cyber Command from adequately observing adversaries operating on U.S. networks. “They’re no longer just launching their attacks from different parts of the world. They understand that they come into the United States, use our infrastructure, and there’s a blind spot for us not being able to see them.”

FatFace hides ransomware attack, bargains down and gets tech support from pirates

UK fashion retailer FatFace, which made headlines last week by appearing to ask its customers to keep its cyberattack “strictly private and confidential”, has reportedly paid a $2 million ransom. Conti, the gang behind the attack, initially demanded an $8 million ransom based on its assessment of what FatFace’s insurance would cover, but the company talked them down after explaining revenues had tumbled due to the Coronavirus lockdown. In accepting the payment, Conti offered advice to FatFace’s IT team about how to harden its defenses against future attacks.

New York launches blockchain based Covid passports

New Yorkers will now be able to pull up a code on their cell phone to prove they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19 or recently tested negative for the virus that causes it. The first-in-the-nation certification, called the Excelsior Pass, will be useful first at large-scale venues like Madison Square Garden, as well as at dozens of event, arts and entertainment venues statewide, and even weddings and catered events. The data will come from the state’s vaccine registry and also will be linked to testing data from a number of pre-approved testing companies. It is built on IBM’s digital health pass platform and is provided via blockchain technology, so neither IBM nor any business will have access to private medical information.

Emails from DHS officials obtained in SolarWinds hack

The Associated Press’ sources say as part of the SolarWinds Orion supply chain attack, threat actors obtained access to email accounts belonging to the Trump administration’s head of the Department of Homeland Security Chad Wolfe and members of the department’s cybersecurity staff. The intelligence value of the emails is unknown. Officials say following disclosure of the attack, DHS officials switched to clean phones and used the messaging app Signal to communicate. One official speaking to AP said the agency’s response was hampered by outdated technology and struggled for weeks to identify how many servers it had running SolarWinds software.

Ziggy ransomware gang announces shutdown: returns keys and offers refund

Voicing concerns about recent law enforcement activity and guilt for encrypting their victims, the gang has released all victims’ decryption keys, and has now offered to refund the money they extorted. In an interview with Bleeping Computer, the ransomware admin said they created the ransomware to generate money as they live in a “third-world country.” Threat analyst Brett Callow suggests that the recent arrest of individuals associated with the Emotet and Netwalker operation could be causing some actors to get cold feet. The admin at Ziggy has posted contact information for victims to receive their ransoms back in bitcoin. (CISOMag)

Whistleblower: Ubiquiti breach “catastrophic”

On January 11 of this year, Ubiquiti, a vendor of cloud-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as routers, network video recorders and security cameras, disclosed that a breach involving a third-party cloud provider had exposed customer account credentials. Now, according to Krebs on Security, a source who participated in the response to that breach alleges Ubiquiti massively downplayed a “catastrophic” incident to minimize the hit to its stock price, and that the third-party cloud provider claim was a fabrication. According to the whistleblower, “the breach was massive, customer data was at risk, access to customers’ devices deployed in corporations and homes around the world was at risk.” The full story is available at Krebsonsecurity.com.

MobiKwik suffers major breach: KYC data of 3.5 million users exposed

Popular Indian mobile payments service MobiKwik came under fire on Monday after 8.2 terabytes (TB) of data belonging to millions of its users began circulating on the dark web in the aftermath of a major data breach that came to light earlier this month. What is significant about this breach is the fact that the leak shows that MobiKwik does not delete card information from its servers even after a user has removed them, in what’s likely a breach of government regulations. MobiKwik officials vehemently denied the breach, blaming a “media-crazed so-called security researcher,” but numerous independent users have confirmed the breach, specifically by finding their personal details on the leak site.

How this Thread Works:

You come in and post as many details as possible about the game you're looking for, then wait until someone comes up with the answer. It's as simple as that. If no one has replied to your post, maybe it wasn't specific enough (see below), or maybe people are working on it, but don't have any further questions. Be patient.

How to maximize your chances of finding what you're looking for: CashApp Gold

Follow these simple guidelines:

1) As a general rule, be as much specific as you can, every little detail counts and may help us find what you're looking for.

2) Specify the time frame the game came out, at least the decade . Can't remember? Try thinking of other games you might remember playing around the same time as the one you are looking for.

3) Specify the system you played the game on (which console, PC, operating system). If you're not sure, telling us which systems you owned in your gaming history narrows the field down considerably. If it was a flash game that you played on some website, don't say "PC game", say "flash game" or "browser game".

4) List any distinctive qualities you can remember: what genre of game was it (FPS, RPG, Plat former...)? Was the game 2D or 3D? What did the characters and enemies look like? Was the protagonist a male or a female or multiple characters? Was it first person or third person? If third person, what was the camera angle: behind the character, from the side, top-down, isometric? Was the game really bloody? How many players in multiplayer? Post anything you can remember, even if it sounds insignificant.

Sticking to these ground rules will not only help others find the answer to your request, but ensures that the first answer given is more likely to be what you are looking for.
