TweeBuck is about to launch... Exciting? Definitely!

The concept of finance is not new, it has been in existence since the earliest days of the exchange. Everyone has the opportunity and ability to be successful if they have the right resources, however, one of the most challenging aspects of building a business is financing it and many often struggle in their endeavour to raise the capital required.

Over the years, the concept developed into a centralized system allowing users to trust their assets (money and any other forms of wealth) to 3rd parties with the goal of receiving monthly or yearly interest.

This concept was great while it lasted but as usual, the only thing that remains constant is change.

Cryptocurrency and Blockchain came into existence some years back as a medium to pay for services rendered via digital currency. Bitcoin, the very first Blockchain, was created but served as a one-way payment medium and nothing more. However, developers saw the vision that something more could be achieved using this same technology, but with more features being included. These were called smart contracts.

Smart contracts do not require both parties to be present, they are automated and use real-time data to generate the result.

Ethereum brought this to reality and a few years later, others saw this opportunity and started making use of it to build DeFi apps, which would later become more preferable to CeFi.

https://preview.redd.it/r29i9sgbbzu51.png?width=468&format=png&auto=webp&s=7234ba1a5ad36e13a057d60303c02cc4efa60a13

Decentralized finance, or DeFi for short, is a general term used to represent financial applications or platforms that are built using one or more Blockchain, that make use of smart contracts to create higher returns on investment.

DeFi alone is a great investment option, but the major challenge it has faced so far is a lack of users or a limited number of users whose sole aim is to increase their vested capital. Up until now, it has not been community-driven, which would create something far greater. Tweebaa intends to achieve this.

What is Tweebaa?

Tweebaa is the world’s only earning commerce platform. Its revolutionary multi-dimensional ecosystem utilizes a value-exchange model and provides everyone with the means and opportunity to generate a substantial income. Tweebaa empowers its users by applying their winning team's proven success methods with “DRTV (Direct Response Television)” and helps bring a global network of traffic to their product or business! Tweebaa has all the great communication features you would want within social networking and of course the best marketplace too! Tweebaa paves the way for users to earn money in a variety of ways whilst also providing the emotional, financial, and social benefits that are often unavailable; all this in one app! Whether you are a business, a student, a seller, a homemaker, an influencer, a labourer, or a contributor to society, Tweebaa rewards you every step of the way!

https://preview.redd.it/rbzc2hucbzu51.png?width=468&format=png&auto=webp&s=97bb0492ccf23673cfb671be1370bfcf4ef07fff

Over the years Tweebaa has distributed wealth to both investors and users alike via its token called TWEE and has remained at the forefront of trends and latest developments. Tweebaa is going DeFi (TweeB) and promises to create a revolutionary system the world is more than ready for.

What is DeFi?

The definition might vary when asked by different individuals, but they all come back to the same meaning; decentralized means to render services such as lending and borrowing with no 3rd party involvement, restrictions, delays, the line waiting, and long queues.

DeFi is currently the most talked-about project echoing around the crypto space. Many are raving about it, while some are still critical.

DeFi farming has to do with individuals providing some form of liquidity to the market which in turn creates returns and keeps the market active. It gained massive attention when it came into existence and is still active and a hot topic of discussion today.

Tweebaa is introducing a new token called TweeB which included all the features of a DeFi coin. Tweebaa users will be able to explore and make use of this newly discovered global network.

What makes TweeB so unique?

At the moment, decentralized finance is mainly directed to an investor's interest with the sole aim of investing or rather putting in money and waiting for results (short-term). One can argue that it has yet to actually become a general platform when compared to centralized finance like the banking system, which offers services for every type of person. TweeB plans to reach a much wider user base, not only including the general cryptocurrency investor pool, but also the entire global network available through Tweebaa.

Using Tweebaa’s existing community, TweeB will create something that is totally different and rewards all users, both depositors and borrowers.

Whether you provide liquidity, lend to the TweeB platform, or make use of its borrowing services by providing crypto supported collateral, users can yield returns, regardless of which direction they decide to take.

Combining the power of Tweebaa and TweeB, the more TiV a user holds, the more interest they will generate.

What is TiV?

TiV is an influence value, which reflects a user's contribution to the APP. People can increase their TiV by using the app in various ways including; adding and purchasing products, engaging and networking with other tycoons, inviting friends, and more.

There are many ways users can increase their TiV performance

  1. Buy & Sell products
  2. Invite more friends
  3. Having your posts liked, commented on, or shared
  4. Evaluating Products
  5. Suggesting Products
  6. Having your Tycoonplace being viewed for more than 30 seconds
  7. Follow 5 new friends
  8. Creating a new post

https://preview.redd.it/0e4fip7ebzu51.png?width=468&format=png&auto=webp&s=b81f13f4b676411adff523bc6a2b611d7f1d2e5d

In the field of DeFi in Tweebaa’s ecosystem, the TiV value is similar to the credit value and plays a vital role in relation to TweeBuck (TweeB).

What is TweeBuck and how will users be able to make full use of this platform?

TweeBuck (TweeB) is the next generation upgrade from its token holders. All potential changes, including adding new marks or adjusting system specifications (for example, leverage factors or interest calculations), must go through the proposal and voting process.

TweeBuck (TweeB) is a token which embeds 1:1 voting right to execute composite governance. Token holders of TweeB can simply delegate their voting rights of utility tokens on ERC-20 to their own or other people’s Ethereum wallets address.

How does TweeBuck plan to reward its users?

TweeB is basically a DeFi-based coin and it plans on providing more financial services, when compared to other types of decentralized finance platforms, using the following features and more.

  • Providing Liquidity (Liquidity mining)
  • Depositing
  • Borrowing

https://preview.redd.it/y8zh5tifbzu51.png?width=415&format=png&auto=webp&s=0ebe7a922ebba38b0e1733de2397b5578c8cf460

Liquidity provider

Basically, users will be able to provide TweeB liquidity on a ratio of 50/50 to whichever coin it is paired with, i.e. TweeB/ETH, TweeB/USDT, and more depending on users and what they prefer.

As a liquidity provider, decisions on which pair to trade TweeB with will be totally dependent on users as it should when referencing a decentralized network.

While the above is performed, liquidity providers get returns in TweeB tokens as more swap is carried out.

Deposit

As mentioned above, TiV plays a vital role when interacting with the Tweebaa platform. The more TiV you have, the more TweeBuck (TweeB) you will receive. The TweeBuck (TweeB) amount received will be based on 60% of the users Twee and 40% from their TiV.

By depositing assets to the Tweebaa platform, users will be able to generate returns that are paid based on the pre-calculated format using different scenarios.

More information regarding this can be found in the whitepaper.

Borrowing

Centralized systems like the banking sector, give out loans to customers and in return, those customers provide collateral which can include land, homes, and other assets. However, the world is going digital and so should borrowing.

TweeB allows users to provide collateral in cryptos like BTC, ETH, and other altcoins which then provide users with the assets they want.

They can provide collateral in BTC and take their desired coin to trade; this can be paid back and their vested collateral closed/removed.

Conclusion

TweeB token omics can be further broken down to self-governance. In terms of DeFi, this simply means users will be able to self-govern the TWEEB platform based on the vested amount they hold. This, in turn, creates a scarcer economy giving more value to the token.

Scarcity is one of many ways to provide value to an asset, take BTC as an example with only 21mil total supply. It has, over-time, created a self-sustaining market which depends on holders and how much they are willing to sell at that point in time.

The same can be said about TweeB. Holders will determine how much they are willing to sell or if they prefer holding it, they will have more scarcity and more value.

In conclusion, TweeB hopes to create a system that is both community-driven and investment-wise, resulting in a system that is far more prevailing than anything currently available.

While the future cannot be predicted, users are advised to carry out their own research before investing.

To increase the awareness of TweeB, different events will be hosted occasionally. To find out more and keep up to date, join the Tweebaa telegram channel(community) if you haven’t already.

$20 free with Celsius Network interest earning app (use stablecoin for no price fluctuations)

Celsius Network is an app for earning interest on your cryptocurrencies up to 12%. You can also get around 8% interest on stablecoins. They are definitely legit, I and many others here already successfully completed this offer.

If you sign up using a referral link they now offer $20 free in BTC after you deposit the equivalent of $200 in cryptocurrencies on the app.

Tip: buy the (stable)coins through the Crypto.com app Also see my guide here

Steps:

  • Register using https://celsiusnetwork.app.link/165911893f or use code 165911893f in the app.
  • Verify your ID in the app
  • Deposit cryptocurrency (at least $200) I recommend depositing a stablecoin like USDC if you want no risk of the crypto going down in value. Note: deposit in one transaction, otherwise the bonuses will not be triggered.
  • After 30 days the $20 bonus will be unlocked and you can withdraw your deposit and the bonus. On top you will also get the interest :) Do not withdraw anything before the 30 day period is over, otherwise the bonus will be cancelled.

Let me know if you have any questions! I have succesfully withdrawn money from the app, PM me if you want more details :)

Extra info:

  • Although it is possible to buy some cryptocurrencies through the Celsius app, the fees for this are quite high and they don't offer the option to buy stablecoins, so I wouldn't recommend it. So my advice is to buy some stablecoins at the Crypto.com app, since they currently have no fees for purchases with a credit/debit card until the end of September. They offer USDC and other stablecoins and the process is quite easy through their app. Otherwise you could also use Coinbase or Bitpanda for example.
  • After you buy the stablecoins at one of the platforms mentioned above, you have to send it to your Celsius account. To send the stablecoins to Celsius, you need to get the deposit address for that specific coin in your Celsius app. You copy this address and enter it as the address to withdraw to in the platform where you bought the stablecoin, like the Crypto.com app. Transfers like this can take some time, but you'll see it appear in your Celsius app within an hour. The fee to withdraw USDC from Crypto.com has been increased unfortunately, it's 3 USDC.
  • When the bonuses are unlocked at Celsius (30 days after your deposit), you can withdraw your stablecoin that you deposited back to Crypto.com or another platform to convert it back to dollars/euros/pounds. The bonus is paid out in Bitcoin, so you'll have to do a seperate transfer for that. After they arrive in your Crypto.com app, you can convert both the bonus BTC and the stablecoin back to dollars/euros/pounds. You can withdraw them then to your bank account without any fees.

Play Online Poker with Bitcoins

Bitcoin (or BTC) is a decentralized virtual currency which is traded in the same way as currencies or bonds, except that for the storage of Bitcoins it is necessary to download an “electronic wallet”. According to Bitcoin there is no person, company or government that controls Bitcoin, so it requires users for its operation and the greater the demand, the greater its value. One of the main attractions of Bitcoin is its possible anonymity which allows the user to buy, pay and sell products and services without the intervention of any bank or financial institution.

Best Online Casinos to Play Bitcoin Poker of October 2020

In its beginnings, in 2008, Bitcoin did not obtain great popularity, but little by little it began to be adopted by more users and companies. It was in 2011 that the newspapers began to read about Bitcoin, since then companies of great international impact have begun to open their doors to transactions with Bitcoin, some of these companies are: Dell, Overstock and Microsoft.

The increasing adoption of Bitcoin by multinational companies spurred a reaction from government entities, with each country taking very different actions. In August 2013, the German Finance Minister declared Bitcoin as a "unit of account" which can be used for private transactions, which allowed Germany to control this virtual currency. In December 2013, the Chinese government prohibited banks and financial institutions from transacting with Bitcoins due to security and transparency issues. This government action caused a considerable drop in the value of Bitcoin since users in this country could not change their Bitcoins to the local currency. The United Kingdom and the European Union have also recognized Bitcoin as a type of currency and every day this cryptocurrency is accepted by more countries. However, each specific case must be analyzed, for example: in the case of the United States; Bitcoin is not considered a digital currency but rather a taxable product.

Buying Bitcoins for the first time can seem a lot more difficult than it actually is. There are many methods to acquire Bitcoins, the most practical is to acquire them directly from an exchange house or Bitcoins exchange houses. Their names denote their difference, in exchange houses you will go to a provider who will sell you Bitcoins for your local currency, while in exchange houses you interact with other users to exchange Bitcoins for real money. Bitcoins transactions can last from 10 minutes to several hours and are made through a Bitcoin address (similar to mail methods, only the address in this case is a series of numbers and characters), once you receive the transfer you must move your Bitcoins to your electronic wallet before you can use them.

In short, that's how easy it is to use Bitcoins:

· Bitcoin is a virtual currency that is stored in an electronic wallet.

· The value of Bitcoin is decentralized so it fluctuates depending on its demand.

· You can make a Bitcoins transfer in seconds and its verification takes about an hour.

· Once a Bitcoins transfer has been made, it cannot be reversed

· For the most part, Bitcoins transactions are not subject to fees or commissions.

Sites to play online poker with Bitcoins

Online poker sites have become more popular every day and since the use of Bitcoin is anonymous, decentralized and more or less instant transfers, online casinos have recognized in this cryptocurrency an excellent potential to attract new customers.

The way Bitcoins are used to gamble online divides casinos into two categories: exclusive Bitcoin poker sites and online casinos that accept Bitcoin. So, what is the distinguish between using an online casino that accepts Bitcoins and using a Bitcoin casino to play poker?

https://preview.redd.it/wo0is3x12wu51.png?width=621&format=png&auto=webp&s=b733c7964f58ba0441de2f060fed7aaf1dbfe4ed

Differences between Bitcoin poker and poker sites that accept Bitcoins

There are several differences between using an online casino that accepts Bitcoins and a Bitcoincasino, here are the most important ones:

The great differentiation between these types of online casinos will be the total offer of payment methods to enter or withdraw funds from your casino account, Bitcoin casinos do not accept other payment methods other than Bitcoin transfer, while traditional online casinos They will offer you other payment options such as a bank account or PayPal.

The expenses for using exclusive Bitcoins casinos are minimal and normally there are no fees for withdrawal of funds, contrary to the case of online casinos that accept Bitcoins as one of their payment methods since they most likely will charge you some commission.

Another great advantage of choosing Bitcoin casinos over online casinos is anonymity since you will not need to link your email or personal data to create an account. In addition to the convenience that this anonymity provides, it also streamlines the transfer process in relation to online casinos that require documentation. You should consider that this anonymity also makes Bitcoin casinos vulnerable to security problems with other users.

The game offer does not vary much between a Bitcoin casino and a traditional online casino, the most popular are: poker, roulette, slots and dice. Some small Bitcoin casinos do not turn to typical gaming providers like Playtech and Bets off as they tend to look for smaller providers that you may not have seen before.

Some of the most relevant Bitcoin casinos are: PokerStars, SWC Poker, Bitcoin Casino and Bit casino.

Pros of using Bitcoins when playing online poker

Transfer money to and from your online casino account

The requirements are basically the same as those of any traditional form of payment, of course you must have the electronic wallet software to use Bitcoins, but remember that withdrawals with this cryptocurrency they are usually much faster.

User anonymity

This advantage applies or not depending on the online casino you use, if when you sign up they only ask for information about your Bitcoin account then you will enjoy complete anonymity, however if you need to fill in personal or banking information to register at the casino then this benefit will not apply on that platform.

American users can use Bitcoin

Since Bitcoin is not recognized in the United States as a currency, it can be used as a means to enter and withdraw funds from an online casino account, remember that in the United States the laws vary a lot from one state to another so if you are an American user make sure you know the laws of your state in relation to online gambling before registering on a platform.

The double bet with Bitcoin

Many players opt for Bitcoin to place their bets since there is the possibility of winning some money depending on the exchange rate of Bitcoin when it comes to changing it to their local currency. This is why when used as a payment method for an online casino account, it is considered a double bet.

Best Rake backs

It is normal for Bitcoin casinos to offer better rake backs to their users since their expenses when using Bitcoin as the only payment method are lower, however this applies only to exclusive Bitcoin online casinos.

Cons of using Bitcoins when playing online poker

Where there are advantages, there are also disadvantages, here are the main cons you should consider when betting with Bitcoins.

Bitcoin-exclusive online casinos are sites without regulation or oversight

In the absence of a regulatory entity, it is hard to believe the promise of these casinos to use random platforms and take care of your funds. You must be much more careful when choosing an exclusive Bitcoins casino than a traditional online casino, the reputation and opinion of other players will be very important when choosing a Bitcoin Casino.

Another factor that you should take into account is that the lack of regulation of gambling with Bitcoin does not mean that you are exempt from following the gambling regulations of the place where you live, especially in the case of the United States, where the government has previously intervened in activities of bets regardless of the means of deposit or withdrawal of funds from the companies.

The fluctuating value of Bitcoin

The value of Bitcoin can vary both upward and downward. Its value can change in a matter of hours, and the behavior of its value is not so similar to that of currencies such as euros, dollars, pounds or pesos, but is more similar to the behavior of products such as oil, gold or wheat,

Relative anonymity of Bitcoin

While it is possible to register to exclusive Bitcoin poker sites without giving personal information, the use of Bitcoins can be traced through the blockchains to a personal account.

Lack of support from financial institutions

Being a decentralized currency, Bitcoin is not backed by financial institutions or government, which gives you less support as a user. If there were to be a problem with the Bitcoins system, there would be no government intervention as would happen in the case of a bank. Of course, you should consider that it is thanks to this lack of intervention that transfers with Bitcoins do not charge fees or commissions.

Being a virtual currency it is susceptible to cyberattacks.

While the programming behind the Bitcoins System is sophisticated, so are the hackers' systems. In 2013, the UK Crime Agency reported that several users of this cryptocurrency had been victims of cyber extortion, after receiving an email their computer was infected with a virus and later they were sued for some bitcoins to repair the virus on their computers. Unfortunately there are more cases like this, in Europe a payment provider lost more than a million dollars after a cyberattack.

All transactions are final

Remembering that there is no intervention by financial institutions, it becomes evident that it will be difficult to file a dispute in the event of a transfer error, so you will have to be much more careful.

conclusion

Playing poker online is a game of both chance and strategy. For some bettors it is exceptionally alluring to utilize Bitcoins since they have the chance of expanding their benefits as indicated by the Bitcoin swapping scale.

For many, traditional online casinos play poker with bitcoin will continue to be the best option due to the reliability and regulation of their transactions.

What cannot be denied is that the use of Bitcoins grows day by day and in the world of online poker as in any cyber activity you must consider the most innovative and practical solutions that there is for you.

How does Raiz work?

Raiz helps you proactively invest. One key feature is round-ups; we round up each of your transactions to the nearest dollar, and invest the change into a diversified portfolio. Simply connect a debit card, or other funding source, then provide us with some basic information. We give you the option of choosing a portfolio that is in line with your investment goals and the amount of risk you’re comfortable taking.

Note that Raiz offers other great ways of investing besides round-ups, for more info please see this article.

What are the fees?

Once an account is opened, there are no fees on $0 balances and after that there is a monthly fee as follows:

Portfolio Balance (<$10,000) Balance ($10,000 and up)
All portfolios (exc. Sapphire) $2.50 p/month (charged monthly) 0.275% p.a. (charged monthly, computed daily)
Sapphire $2.50 p/month + 0.275% p.a. (charged monthly, computed daily) $2.50 p/month + 0.275% p.a. (charged monthly, computed daily)

An rough idea of monthly fees on a range of balances can be seen below:

Average Monthly Balance All portfolios (exc. Sapphire) Sapphire
$500 $2.50 $2.61
$1,000 $2.50 $2.73
$2,500 $2.50 $3.07
$5,000 $2.50 $3.65
$10,000 $2.29 $4.79
$20,000 $4.58 $7.08
$50,000 $11.46 $13.96

Any other fees, including any future changes can be found here.

Raiz Beginners Guide

What’s Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA)? Dollar Cost Averaging is basically spreading your investments in such a way that you can take advantage of the ever fluctuating daily price of stocks. The best example of this concept is given in a simple example here.

What do you mean by Portfolio?

Raiz uses the money which is put into the app by making you pick a type of profile which is differentiated from one another by the risk involved, as well as a few other characteristics (socially responsible, or an exposure to Bitcoin). The risk factor varies, depending on the portfolio. A breakdown based on portfolio can be found in the table below, including the minimum suggested investment timeframe (MSIT):

Risk Level (Raiz Defined) Portfolio MSIT
Low Conservative 3 months
Low to Moderate Moderately Conservative 1 year
Moderate Moderate 2 years
Moderate to High Moderately Aggressive 3 to 5 years
High Aggressive 5 to 7 years
Moderate to High Emerald 3 to 5 years
Very High Sapphire 5+ years

NOTE: Once you decide which portfolio to go by, try to not change between portfolios if you see a loss in the value of the account initially. Stick by it and don’t keep changing portfolio, because you might lose more while changing portfolio because it involves selling and buying stocks at different rates.

What portfolio should I pick?

Common question. It all depends on the amount of risk you are willing to take. There are also portfolios available if you'd prefer a socially responsible portfolio, or an exposure to Bitcoin. The longer you intend to hold your money in your account, the higher risk you might be willing to take.

NOTE: Do NOT panic when you see a down day with a loss against your portfolio. The BEST thing you can think of is DCA. If you have set up recurring investments, you are going to see gains as soon as the stocks go up in price.

Which portfolio performs the best?

Common question. Raiz releases an annual report that provides a summary of portfolio performance, typically in August.

Portfolio performance for the past two years, for all portfolios (excluding Sapphire) can be found here.

Something to note: past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Just because a portfolio has done well over the years, it is no guarantee that will continue to be the case, and things such as pandemics, market crashes and the like do happen. Pick a portfolio that suits your needs.

What is Raiz Rewards?

This is a feature in Raiz which gives you some percentage of the money spent for purchasing with vendors they have tie ups with. The method that you use varies slightly for online and in store purchases.

Online Vendors

To ensure you can get the rewards, go to your PC to the online retail store and add items to the cart. Make sure you go via the Raiz website (or App) to the vendor either on the PC or mobile. Finalize the payments via the link that Raiz takes you by and finish the purchase.

In Store Vendors

To ensure you can get the rewards, go to your App, click Rewards -> In-Store.

Click the vendor option, and select 'Activate Now'. Then, go shopping in store with that reward partner. Make sure you use a card that is linked to your Raiz account.

Payment of Rewards

This percentage that is listed in Raiz Rewards can take up to 90 days (typically 30 days for online, 90 days for in store purchases/Raiz Energy) to show up under the Raiz Rewards column in the "History" window in the mobile app. The percentage varies with each vendor.

What about dividends?

Dividends get paid periodically on the ETF holdings that you have, proportional to the amount of each ETF you own on as of the ex-dividend date. These dividends are invested into your Raiz account, approximately one business day after payment date.

Raiz run an annual blog post outlining the dates that dividends are expected to be paid (they vary slightly). That can be found here.

What about taxes?

Raiz will provide you with tax information at the end of financial year which tells you how to report any earnings from your Raiz account. It comes in the form of a Tax Statement, and is typically available in the third week of July.

This can be found in app by going to My Settings -> Support -> View Statements

How long do transactions stay in pending?

Raiz typically takes up to five business days for taking the money from your account and buying shares and for it to show up as processed. So don’t panic if it takes a few days. It’s a common thing.

Well I've read through this and I've got another issue - where can I go for help?

The Raiz Support crew are available to help you out with your Raiz issues. I've had personal experiences in the past where I've needed a hand, and they've been really great.

You can find more info on how to contact them on the Raiz Support webpage. Or hit them up on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

New trends in the development of the blockchain industry

It’s Monday, which means it’s time to recall the crypto world events of the past week, and discuss the news of the crypto market over the past seven days. Don’t forget to mention in the comments the news that were not included in our selection!

New trends in the development of the blockchain industry

Experts at Mindsmith have identified the main trends in the blockchain industry, which can become decisive for the further development of global technologies! For example, banks are developing blockchain-powered solutions in the field of information security. Providers of financial and technological services are actively working on alternative payment systems based on blockchain technology. Insurance companies are experimenting with smart-contracts and concepts of sovereign identity, seeing significant potential in the tokenization of identity data.

ETH and BTC prices hold positions

The price of the first cryptocurrency began its growth a couple of weeks ago, and last week it finally hit above $ 11,300. Experts claim that the next support line will be the price of 11,800 per Bitcoin, but for now the first cryptocurrency is being traded in the $11,467 area — basically, in the same place where it was seven days ago. The second largest cryptocurrency by capitalization, Ethereum, is traded in the $376 area.

OKEx has suspended withdrawals

One of the past week scoops was the suspension of the withdrawal of funds from the OKEx cryptocurrency exchange. Initially, it was reported that one of the private key holders “cooperates with law enforcement agencies” and does not get in touch.

Ethereum 2.0 Got Closer?

Last week, Ethereum developers took another step towards Ethereum 2.0 and launched the final Zinken testnet. It is this launch, which, according to Buterin’s team, was successful, should become a “dress rehearsal” for the creation of the Ethereum 2.0 genesis block. Perhaps Ethereum developer Evan Van Ness who stated that the time count before the launch of Ethereum 2.0 “goes by weeks” was not far from the truth.

PayPal Just Gave 346 Million People A New Way To Buy Bitcoin—But There’s A Nasty Catch

The bitcoin and cryptocurrency community has been set alight by news payments giant PayPal PYPL -4.3% will allow its 346 million users buy and spend bitcoin and a handful of other major cryptocurrencies.

https://preview.redd.it/a1w5a8zqktu51.jpg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6bdffcc4af404c0be6e44ee8dcff73a92506e4f

The announcement, coming from a traditional financial industry giant and perceived enemy of bitcoin, has been taken as vindication for long-time bitcoin believers.

However, celebrations were somewhat stifled by small print that revealed PayPal wouldn't let users transfer their cryptocurrency into or out of PayPal—nor would users have control of the private keys, a long string of numbers and letters that allow holders to move their digital assets.

"Currently, you can only hold the cryptocurrencies you buy on PayPal in your account," the company wrote in materials outlining its bitcoin and crypto plans. "Additionally, the crypto in your account cannot be transferred to other accounts on or off PayPal."

PayPal didn't respond to an enquiry asking whether bitcoin and cryptocurrency withdrawals would be allowed in the future.

The news has divided the bitcoin and cryptocurrency community, with Satoshi Labs, the creators of cryptocurrency hardware wallet Trezor, warning people to avoid PayPal altogether—invoking the cryptographic mantra: "Not your keys; not your coins."

"Do not use PayPal for bitcoin; there are many other places to buy crypto which will let you keep ownership of your coins," the company wrote in a blog post, suggesting PayPal's plans for cryptocurrency adoption are probably not because they want to spur healthy adoption and pointing to comments made by former PayPal chief executive Bill Harris in 2018 that bitcoin is "the greatest scam ever."

The power of "import electrum" as a python bitcoin scripting engine

I've been a big fan of Electrum as a wallet for a while now. Traditionally, when I wanted to do bitcoin scripting I would use either trezorlib, pycoin, or bitcoinlib. But recently I was digging a bit deeper into the Electrum source and found it to be one of the simpler python libraries to use to craft bitcoin transactions.

One of the nicer things about Electrum as a scripting engine is that you can drop the standalone app or AppImage on a system and run your scripts directly through the console. This makes doing things on r/Tails or other locked down systems much easier. To run one one of your scripts (without the event loop) simply type (assuming you correct the file path):

with open(r"myscript.py", 'r') as s: exec(s.read())

Obviously only do this with scripts you've personally authored. Never run random code on your machine especially when wallet private keys are in play.

There are already some great scripting examples in the electrum\scripts folder, but most of these use the event loop which brings in a lot of overhead. I found simple TXN processing can easily be done without spawning an full electrum thread. I'd be happy to PR the samples if there is any interest in this style from the maintainers.

Here's two examples I put together that craft a BIP65 spending transaction. It turned out to be much simpler than I imagined. I did it both in bitcoinlib and electrum. The structure is very similar and should hopefully be easier to follow. Feel free to start a r/PythonRoastMe on it.

Two things of note. I had to disable R-value grinding (nuked while loop) so that I had parity with bitcoinlib, which hasn't rolled it out yet. This is why the TXIDs differ. I also had to override the the PartialTransaction.get_preimage_script method since it makes certain multisig assumptions that don't apply to generic scripting.
