Bitcoin (BTC) Price Watch: Bullish Channel Still Intact

Bitcoin Price Key Highlights

Bitcoin price broke down from its short-term consolidation and is down to the longer-term channel support.

A bounce could still allow the uptrend to resume and take price to the resistance at $7,000.

A break below current levels could lead to a pickup in selling pressure and prolonged declines once more.

Bitcoin price tumbled below its short-term consolidation to test the bottom of its ascendingchannel on the 4-hour chart.

Technical Indicators Signals

The moving averages are oscillating to reflect earlier range-bound conditions and have yet to catch up to the sharp drop. However, the 100 SMA seems to be holding its head above the longer-term 200 SMA to indicate that the path of least resistance is to the upside. In other words, support might be more likely to hold than to break.

In that case, bitcoin price could recover to the top of the channel around $7,000 or at least until the mid-channel area of interest at $6,600. The moving averages might also hold as near-term resistance levels in the event of a bounce.

Stochastic is pointing down to signal that sellers have control, but the oscillator is nearing oversold conditions to signal exhaustion. Turning back up could bring buyers back to the mix and allow the uptrend to resume. RSI has already reached oversold levels and is starting to turn back up to indicate that buyers are ready to return.

BTCUSD Chart from TradingView

Bitcoin price sold off sharply on news of an outage in Canada’s MapleChange, which led to a loss of more than 900 bitcoins on a security issue. The company attempted to reassure clients but later on took down its social media accounts and the website itself, causing more concerns.

Keep in mind that the industry is just starting to make a bit more headway in terms of assuring regulators and gaining more institutional investments, but this development could put it a step back.

Will Vite be strong with Smart Contracts in DAG?

What is “DAG + Smart Contract”?

Introduction

Compared to traditional Blockchain, implementing smart contracts based on a DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) ledger is undoubtedly more challenging. So what exactly are these difficulties and where do they come from?

Cryptocurrency

First, let’s start with the most basic scenario — cryptocurrency. The concept of a cryptocurrency is a distributed database that stores the balance information for each account. The computers running in a cryptocurrency network are referred to as Nodes. Each node stores a piece of data about the account balance, which is often referred to as State.

Unlike traditional centralized banking systems, the distributed ledger requires all nodes to reach consensus on the state. In other words, the balance for each account stored on each computer in the network is the same. Since state data may be large in certain systems, transmitting full states causes huge network overhead, therefore, in such systems only events that change states are transmitted, called Transactions. To extrapolate on this fact, your money will not increase or decrease without. The account balance will only change when you pay someone or you are paid. Therefore, as long as you have all the historical transaction records of an account, you can calculate the balance at ease.

In the cryptocurrency system, all transactions are recorded in a data structure called the ledger. The ledger is encrypted by cryptography so that each node can verify whether the data transmitted from other nodes have been tampered with. Blockchain is a classic book structure, and DAG is another.

Blockchain-Based Cryptocurrency

Here the question comes, if the ledger obtained by each node is exactly the same, are they able to calculate out the same states? First, let’s look at the ledger structure of the blockchain. In this structure, all transactions are ordered. Changing the order of any two arbitrary transactions will crash the hash reference relationship of the blockchain, thus creating an invalid ledger. Therefore, starting from the same initial state no matter which node performs the calculation, the same result will always present after the same transaction sequence. Exactly perfect, isn’t it? No matter whether it is Bitcoin or Ethereum, there is no need to transfer and compare huge state data between nodes, instead, all that is necessary to do is to reach a consensus on the ledger data. The information contained in the ledger is adequate for a node to calculate the correct state.

DAG-Based Cryptocurrency

Let’s see if the DAG ledger has such a feature. Fortunately, in a DAG ledger, although the order between some transactions is not deterministic, correct ledger state calculation is not yet impacted because the addition and subtraction of cryptocurrency balance can satisfy the commutative law. As long as the balance of any account is not less than 0, the order of the transaction is not essential at all. Therefore, no matter how the DAG ledger is traversed, the final calculated account balance will be the same. In other words, any node can restore the correct state from the DAG ledger.

Smart Contract

After talking about the cryptocurrency, let’s take a look at smart contracts. In the real world, there are plenty of scenarios require more than just recording the balance of all accounts. For example, a flight ticket booking application needs to record the seat information in the state. At this time, the transaction is no longer just currency transfer, but may contain request data for a smart contract, such as a ticket booking request. At this time, changing the order of the two transactions may result in different states. For example, if both Alice and Bob try to book the same flight seat, this seat will only be allocated to the person who books first. In a smart contract scenario, the commutative law is no longer satisfied between transactions, so it must also take into account transaction sequence.

So how is it determined which transactions must be ordered and which transactions are ordered irrelevant? An ideal solution is writing a function to determine whether exchanging any two arbitrary transactions order will affect the final state, according to the smart contract logic. If such a function exists, we would know which transactions must be linked by hash reference in the DAG ledger, as the above diagram shows any two order-relevant transactions are connected by an arrow. Unfortunately, this function is computationally expensive and cannot be adopted in the real world, therefore, we have to skip this ‘perfect’ solution and look for a simpler and more practical method instead.

Transaction Collation

In order to obtain simple transaction ordering, we could create restrictions on the system:

First, we consider the state of the system, or ‘world state’, as the combination of the states for each account. The status of any two accounts is independent and does not affect another. The balance of one user account will not change due to the change of the balance of another account, and the data of one contract will not be affected by another contract.

Second, we limit each transaction to only change the state of one account. For example, within our scheme a transfer transaction, it either reduces the balance of one account or increases it. The balance of the two accounts is not allowed to be changed at the same time. In other words, transfer transactions are split into ‘sending transactions’ and ‘receiving transactions’. Similarly, transactions invoked by smart contracts are split into ‘request transactions’ and ‘response transactions’.

When you combine the two restrictions, the collation becomes simple — Transactions that affect the state of the same account must be ordered, plus a pair of ‘request’ and ‘response’ transactions must also comply, as the request transaction happens prior to the response transaction.

Block Lattice

Following the collation described in the previous section, in a DAG ledger, each account has an ordered transaction list, or has its own blockchain, called an ‘account chain’. In addition, different account chains may also establish links with each other via request-response transaction pairs. The DAG ledger having this structure is also known as ‘block lattice’.

Transactions are ordered in block-lattice. Regardless of the order in which the DAG ledger is traversed, the same world state can always be calculated by following the order of transactions recorded in the ledger, which is why Vite employs block-lattice as the ledger structure to build smart contracts on. Other DAG structures used by other blockchain projects (such as ‘Tangle’) are unfortunately not smart-contract friendly and additional transaction collation must be introduced to support smart contracts. This would be the equivalent to adding another DAG specifically for smart contracts outside of the original DAG ledger, which would be very challenging and complex to implement.

Summary

This article briefly describes a DAG ledger structure suitable for implementing smart contracts, and why it is adopted. For more detailed information please refer to Vite whitepaper at www.vite.org.

Event study in Stata

I am doing an event study for my masters thesis in Finance. I am investigating whether the correlation between Bitcoin and other currencies gets bigger or smaller after Bitcoin price shocks.

I know it is not normal to do an event study with something else than returns but I thought it was a cool idea when i made my thesis proposal. The problem I am experiencing is that my output makes sense but is hard to read and i do not know how to do a significance test.

Instead of daily return data i did a 90 day rolling correlation so i can get daily data.

for events i chose multiple event days which are actually the days with the highest return in one day, whether positive or negative.

I dont know what to do for my benchmark.

Id really appreciate any help

  • A joint report released by the British Business Federation Authority (BBFA), venture capital fund, Novum Insights, and cryptocurrency exchange, TodaQ, urges that UK regulators use caution in instituting far-reaching regulation. BBFA Chief Executive, Patrick Curry, said to Cointelegraph in regards to UK crypto regulation, “It is a very blunt instrument approach and I haven’t seen this in other countries.” This news comes after Members of Parliament that sit on the UK Treasury Committee called for increased cryptocurrency regulation to protect investors and urged the Financial Conduct Authority to supervise cryptocurrencies.
  • Bitstamp, a large cryptocurrency exchange, has been acquired by NXMH, an investment firm based in Belgium and owned by NXC, a South Korean gaming-focused conglomerate. Signed last Thursday, the acquisition still leaves Bitstamp CEO Nejc Kodric as a minority owner and allows the CEO to continue running Bitstamp’s operations. Pantera Capital, an early backer of Bitstamp, will also retain a 6% ownership stake. Although Bitstamp users will not see immediate changes in the platform’s services, the exchange has a long-term pre-existing roadmap for improvements that NXMH agreed to stick to during negotiations.
  • Japanese cryptocurrency exchange, Coincheck, saw its revenue fall 66% in CY3Q2018. Acquired by Monex Group, Inc. on April 16th, 2018, Coincheck is the notable Japanese cryptocurrency exchange that was hacked for USD$532 million of digital assets in January 2018. According to Monex CEO, Oki Matsumoto, Coincheck is still awaiting a license from Japanese regulators to operate as a cryptocurrency exchange in the country. Coincheck’s quarterly report discusses the revenue loss, saying, “Since service suspension in January 2018, Coincheck only allowed existing customers to sell their cryptocurrency. The limited revenue stream resulted in segment loss of 0.6bn yen (USD$5.3 million). Coincheck has improved governance, internal controls, and internal audits, aiming for full-service resumption.”
  • Jason Hsu, known as Taiwan’s, “Crypto Congressmen,” is continuing to push forward-thinking regulation concerning tech in Taiwan as he is proposing new rules surrounding token sales. This past Friday, Hsu proposed a slew of policy recommendations geared towards assisting cryptocurrency startups -- notably, one of the recommendations would see the country’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) establish a new business category for cryptocurrency firms while another recommendation would see new legal framework established for security tokens. Last week, the Taipei Times reported that Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission would see standards established for initial coin offerings (ICOs) by June of next year.
  • MapleChange, a small Canadian cryptocurrency exchange, was hacked this weekend resulting in the loss of all consumer-owned funds. According to a series of tweets this weekend, hackers exploited a bug in the exchange allowing them to withdraw the entirety of consumer-owned funds from the exchange. Maplechange has suspended users’ accounts in light of the events. MapleChange has noted that it will open wallets at some point in the future to refund users as with as much money as possible.
  • OKEx, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges by daily trading volume, is delisting more than 50 cryptocurrency trading pairs from its platform due to weak performance. As per an announcement published on October 25th, 2018, OKEx will delist these cryptocurrency trading pairs due to weak liquidity and poor trading volume. OKEx specified in their announcement that only the indicated trading pairs would be delisted, and not the cryptocurrencies themselves. Andy Cheung, Head of Operations at OKEx, tweeted this weekend, “Getting listed is not final. Maintaining a good performance is the key to success.”
  • SP Group, a large utility company based in Singapore, is launching a blockchain-powered renewable energy certificate (REC) marketplace, as per a Monday company press release. In discussing the blockchain-powered REC marketplace, Samuel Tan, Chief Digital Officer of SP Group, said, “Through blockchain technology, we enable companies to trade in renewable energy certificates conveniently, seamlessly, and securely, helping them achieve greener business operations and meet their sustainability targets.”
  • The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is recommending that all of its members take action to control the exchange of cryptocurrencies, their storage, and other crypto-related activities. Founded in 1989, the FATF is an intergovernmental organization based in Paris with a directive of establishing standards to fight money laundering and other illegal financial activities. While speaking to Russian news outlet, Izvestia, Vice President of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service of the Russian Federation, Pavel Livadny, expressed a desire to institute controls on crypto transactions of more than 600,000 rubles (USD$9,120). Earlier in October, the FATF made changes to its standards relating to digital currencies and businesses dealing with cryptocurrencies.
  • Ukraine’s Economic Development and Trade Ministry has launched a state policy to reclassify and legalize crypto-related activities, as per Ukrainian news agency, Ukrinform. According to a statement issued by the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine, the purpose of the state policy is to, “create understandable conditions for conducting activities in the field of virtual assets and virtual currencies,” and to usher in, “adoption of the concept of a state policy.” Ukrinform details in its report that the state policy will be completed by 2021 in two separate stages.
  • US household cleaning supplies manufacturer, SC Johnson, and environmental organization, Plastic Bank, are opening multiple plastic recycling centers in Indonesia that will use blockchain technology to reward users. SC Johnson recently revealed data that indicates five Asian countries are responsible for more than 55% of the world’s plastic leaking into the ocean -- these five countries are China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. SC Johnson and Plastic Bank believe that blockchain technology can be used to distribute tokens to individuals based on recycling efforts, not only helping to combat ocean pollution but potentially reducing the poverty level of Indonesia itself.

We have observed one of the biggest collapses of the US stock market in recent years. The technological index Nasdaq dropped by 4.43% over just one day. Stay in touch with the current events of the week covered in our analytical report.

We present to you the report filed by the analysts of our private club for October 22–28.

Main market events for October 22–28, 2018

1) Bakkt will be launched on December 12 if the regulators grant the permission.

2) Internal sources of the CBOE exchange claim that approval of Bitcoin ETF is inevitable. According to the SEC, VanEck, SolidX and CBOE resolved all the issues and it is only a matter of time before the new asset class is approved.

3) The Department of Financial Services (DFS) of New York has permitted Coinbase to develop Custody. The Bank of Japan admits that the bank may lose a lot of influence due to emergence of cryptocurrencies. $500m worth of USDT have been destroyed (burned) by Tether.

4) The Central Election Commission of Russia supported the initiative of the Party of Growth to run elections in Russia on blockchain, which would prevent doctoring of the results.

5) In June 2019, the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF) will start publishing its standards for international regulation of cryptocurrencies.

6) The British audit and consulting company Ernst & Young (EY) conducted a study on the efficiency of 110 ICO projects: only 1 out of 10 tokens managed to bring profit to their owners.

7) Constantinople — the hard fork of Ethereum network — is delayed until the beginning of 2019. The developers made this decision after discovering several bugs when launching the update in the test network.

8) Visa will launch a digital identification system on the B2B Connect blockchain in early 2019. The system would tokenize private information that ensures secure international transactions.

9) The Swiss online bank Swissquote now enables purchasing ICO tokens. You can buy them through an online bank account. Acquired tokens will be stored in a special wallet.

10) HTC has presented the first iteration of the blockchain smartphone Exodus 1 in Berlin. The smartphone is expected to go on sale in 34 countries this December. The device will cost 0.15 BTC or 4.78 ETH.

11) Blockchain platform for distributing video content TaTaTu, which raised $585 million during the ICO, signed an agreement with Johnny Depp. The actor’s film company Infinitum Nihil would produce movies and digital content for TaTaTu.

12) Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market Anatoly Aksakov explained that absence of the concepts of “mining” and “bitcoin” in the draft law “On digital financial assets” hints to a “sad” future for cryptocurrencies.

13) The Japan Association of Virtual Currency Exchanges (JVCEA) received the right to self-regulation from the country’s main regulator, the Japan Financial Services Agency (FSA).

14) The Taiwan Financial Supervision Commission will simplify the procedure for launching ICOs in the country and fully legalize them.

15) Tether Limited burned 500 million USDT tokens. The company once again noted that any USDT owner could redeem their tokens with real US dollars that secure the cryptocurrency.

16) The branch of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission in Shenzhen decreed that the ownership of bitcoins in China should be considered legal.

17) The Ministry of Finance prohibited the British Royal Mint to issue the Royal Mint Gold (RMG) cryptocurrency, backed by gold.

18) Ripple published a financial report for the third quarter of 2018: sales of XRP tokens increased more than twofold and generated revenue of $163.33 million.

19) While the major stock indexes collapsed, Bitcoin continued to stand its ground. This refutes the widespread claims that the price of Bitcoin correlates with traditional finances. It’s worth noting that the current collapse of the US stock market is one of the biggest in recent years. The fall in the Nasdaq technology index, which dropped by 4.43% over the day, was especially disheartening. This is the biggest fall since August 2011.

20) The number of Google search requests for the word “Bitcoin” decreased by 93% compared to last December. This is quite natural, because back then the price of Bitcoin reached its peak.

2. Market analysis from club experts for October 22–28, 2018

The last week was hardly surprising for crypto traders and investors. Volatility, pumps/dumps, despair and enthusiasm — all the usual stuff.

Compared to the stock market though, the waves of the crypto market begin to look pale sometimes. The total capitalization remained in the $208–211 billion corridor for the entire week, despite the worries.

Trading volumes were also fairly stable: $9–11 billion. BTC dominated the market at 54% without deviations, although the Altcoins performed very good.

In the end of the week, the price for 1 BTC remained the same: $6480 on Monday and Sunday, though it fluctuated between $6380 and $6540 ($6478 at the time of the report) during the week.

However, the last week showed a strong growth of a number of coins, despite the price of BTC, and many coins skyrocketed from the levels below TOP100 CMC. Last week the stock market experienced a rather sharp fall, and according to reports, a number of stocks have incomparably higher volatility than many coins from TOP100.

The general sentiment makes it clear that cryptographic market is gaining increasingly more attention of institutional traders and very soon trading instruments will be available through a single terminal in any market.

In the meantime, the blockchain technology and cryptocurrency are gaining momentum in the world, and that’s great!
Though some cypherpunks are not happy about this!

3. Changes in the cost and capitalization of the TOP-10 cryptocurrencies in the period of October 22–28, 2018

https://i.redd.it/91fmpru2t5v11.jpg

4. TOP-3 growing coins from the long-term portfolio for October 22–28, 2018 (including portfolio updates)
The fastest growing portfolio coins:
IOTeX + 50% (), Neblio NEBL + 40% (), Decred DCR + 15% (listing on Binance). The worst performing coin is Mysterium MYST -28% — correction of the growth during the last week.

Traditional And Digital Gold: Are There Any Similarities In Cost Prediction?

https://i.redd.it/sso7ys77j5v11.png

Since Ancient times gold has been a sought-after asset. Nowadays, it is traded on the stock exchanges, Forex, but in 2008 a new type of gold appeared - Bitcoin. They are compared by most investors and analysts who believe in the viability of cryptocurrency. But is it possible to determine the future price of BTC using the same instruments that are relevant to gold? In this article we’ll take a closer look at this issue.

Let's start with technical analysis. Of course, this tool has been helping traders in predicting the price of gold for many years. However, not always when it comes to Bitcoin, due to this asset being chaotic because of its novelty, non-controllability by the SEC and speculativeness.

Now let’s consider the news analysis. News announced in the media affects both gold and cryptocurrency. For example, the price of gold goes up when statements about the possibility of an international conflict appear. Remember when last year Trump sent the US fleet to the shores of North Korea? Investors, wanting to protect their capital in the event of a sad outcome of events, actively buy gold. It is believed that it will be of value at all times. ⌛️

The same happens with Bitcoin. If we study its history since 2008, it is obvious that it acts as an alternative asset. Investors began to buy it during the mass arrests of offshore accounts in Cyprus, and BTC becomes especially attractive during crises in the stock market. It is increasingly being used to diversify risks, like gold.

Which asset is the most relevant for you? We are waiting for your opinion in the comments!

SMART VALOR

SMART VALOR CEO, Olga Feldmeier, hosted a morning presentation on Swiss Finance in Transition, discussing Switzerland’s potential to become a global crypto finance capital, departing from traditional off-shore banking model. As one of the major figures in bringing about the first significant regulatory case licensing of crypto currency custodian (Xapo), Feldmeier is well placed to comment on the changing finance industry. Feldmeier also joined an afternoon panel discussion on the Investor Journey: From Bitcoin to VC, alongside Richard Muirhead, General Partner at Open Ocean, Charles Hoskinson, CEO at Input Output, which was moderated by Eric van der Kleij, CEO at the Centre for Digital Revolution.

Despite recent claims that China is set to ban Bitcoin, Feldmeier, believes this will not have a negative effect on the industry: “Even if China try to clamp down on Bitcoin, it will not hurt the industry. We’ve seen a similar thing in Russia several years ago, when Putin threatened a four year prison sentence on anyone who touched Bitcoin. The only result was that Russia became one of the countries with the largest volumes on localbitcoins.com.”

“It was fantastic to host The ICO Summit alongside so many other innovative companies in the Blockchain industry,” says Feldmeier. “SMART VALOR’s mission is ultimately to make investment accessible via its Blockchain-based decentralised network, which enables users to create and distribute tokenized investments. We’d like to build on the success of this year’s ICO Summit and establish it as a truly global crypto event.”

Wanchain 3.0 Open Beta is Live!

This is our last testing phase before Wanchain 3.0 launch later in Q4!
Any Ethereum-based project or pre-launch project will be able to leverage Bitcoin via Wanchain!

https://i.redd.it/7fjy49nan4v11.jpg

What is Wanchain 3.0?

Wanchain 3.0 is our next step in bridging blockchains and connecting the world’s digital assets. This product launch brings Bitcoin interoperability to Wanchain’s platform. This means any application built on Wanchain will have cross-chain capabilities with Ethereum and Bitcoin. Additionally, any Ethereum-based dApp, DEX, protocol, or other project can connect with Wanchain to leverage Bitcoin’s blockchain and users. This will create massive increases in liquidity, demand, and volume for Ethereum-based projects.

MakerDAO’s Dai on Wanchain Becomes First Ever Cross-Chain ERC20

MakerDAO’s stablecoin, Dai, has entered Beta testing on Wanchain (see testing instructions below). This integration makes Dai the first ever cross-chain ERC20 token. The Dai token will utilize Wanchain’s cross-chain functionality allowing for Bitcoin to be exchanged for Dai in a fully decentralized manner and to potentially add Bitcoin to its collateralized debt position in addition to Ether (MakerDAO is working on multi-collateral Dai). This announcement comes in parallel to the ongoing Bitcoin Integration on Wanchain (Wanchain’s 3.0 release), which will go live before the end of 2018.

Smart City - A Red Alert to Humanity " If the TECH Service is free, you are the product "

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 64%. (I'm a bot)

Out of 959,000 applications broke down from the Google Play store, 88 per cent sent information to Google, as per Business Insider.

A little more than 42 per cent of applications additionally sent information to Facebook, while a little more than 33 per cent sent information to Twitter.

"The investigation said the middle application could exchange information to five tracker organizations, which could send the information along to firms like Google."

"We can't help contradicting the technique and the discoveries of this investigation. It misrepresents common practical administrations like accident detailing an investigation, and how applications share information to convey those administrations," proclaimed a Google representative to Business Insider.

"Crosswise over Google, and in Google Play, we have clear arrangements and rules for how designers and outsider applications can deal with information and we expect engineers to be straightforward and request client consent. In the event that an application disregards our arrangements, we make a move."

A month ago, Google started logging clients into their Google accounts through the Chrome browser without requesting consent or informing the people, making privacy concerns.
