EWMCI Weekly Update for 2019-10-04 [Full Version]

Dear Colleagues,

One week at a time... or "crypto in small doses" seems to be the mantra over the past couple of months. Well, last 7 days were no exception. Starting at very depressed levels, all three indices (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) had a lot of resistance to overcome on their way toward the "median" levels. As we move forward, it will be important to determine how the increasingly legitimate "crypto space" fits into the existing landscape of modern finance. This will of course differ when it comes to specific application(s) of each "coin" - from store of value to currency to practical blockchain apps. Below is the breakdown of individual index performances for the week ending October 4, 2019:

1) Gold Index - "The fall stops here... for now." This pretty much sumps up the movement of the large caps within the index. Up 1% this week, the index performance seems to be following Bitcoin's new range-bound fluctuations between $7,900 and $8,200. There are too many economic and political events to clearly attribute index behavior to... uncertainty is the only constant. Right now, we are in a holding pattern that will have to resolve itself one way or another. One underappreciated fact that many seem to miss - The increasing USD strength may have something to do with the relative weakness in all currencies, including "crypto" currencies.

2) Silver Index - Overall similar to the Gold Index, with the only difference being a 1.3% drop (as opposed to 1% increase). Given the volatility of individual components, more choppy trading is likely in the cards for the upcoming week. Moreover, some of the positions within the Silver Index are being actively affected by the closing of two major altcoin exchanges. Until that situation stabilizes, there will likely be more price swings over the next 3-4 weeks. Once new marketplaces / exchanges become established, this temporary state should fully resolve.

3) Bronze Index - This is the singular success story for the week. The index is up 9.8% after a large drop two weeks ago. Looking at the 2-week moving average, we are just above the "dashed line." This may mean that the worst is behind us, and that the next move will either be "lateral" or "up" with the long-term line showing resistance/support levels in the $49-50 range. Given the deleterious effect of announced exchange closures on the Bronze Index in the recent past, many of the positions seem to be emerging from that temporary selling pressure.

Other items - Great thanks to Zapple and NLexch for their flexibility and generosity in hosting new coin pairs. Also kudos to the EWMCI Leadership Alliance - including Bee from Unitus and Clockuniverse from Terracoin for spearheading some key coin pair transitions / listings to avoid market disruptions resulting from exchange closures.

Till next week!

Bitcoin Is 2019’s Best-Performing Asset, Even After Recent Price Downturn

News by Coindesk: Brad Keoun

Investors would be hard-pressed to name a better-performing asset class so far in 2019 than bitcoin.

Gold? Up 17 percent since Dec. 31. Stocks? The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index returned 21 percent through Sept. 30. Bonds? The 10-year U.S. Treasury bond is yielding just 1.6 percent, close to historic lows.

And bitcoin? Prices for the cryptocurrency finished the third quarter around $8,308 each, according to data provider Messari, up 114 percent on the year. Investors who bought on the last day of 2018 would have doubled their money, and then some.

On Wall Street, one of the chief criticisms of bitcoin is that it was invented only a decade ago (a baby by old-world standards) by a computer programmer (or programmers, nobody really knows), with no real fundamental, underlying value. It’s just a made-up thing, as they say, with a volatile price that only derives from what the next buyer is willing to pay.

But with the global economy slowing and trillions of dollars of government bonds from Europe and Japan trading with negative yields, bitcoin’s price gains this year could conceivably attract a new wave of investors who previously wouldn’t even take a look.

Already there are signs they are. Pantera Capital, one of the earliest cryptocurrency funds, recently scheduled an event in San Francisco for its existing investors featuring cryptographer and digital currency pioneer Nick Szabo. As word trickled out, a number of investors who had never touched the asset class contacted the firm requesting invites, said Paul Brodsky, a partner at Pantera.

“There’s a lot of drama around it all, there’s a lot of energy, there’s a lot of press,” Brodsky said. “We’re getting interest from significant institutional investors of all types.”

Fear of missing out

The year’s price gains might entice big institutional investors like pension funds and endowments, struggling to hit return targets so they can meet obligations to retirees and other beneficiaries, according to executives at the cryptocurrency-focused investment firm KR1.

“Bitcoin’s been around long enough now where people are more familiar with it,” said Keld van Schreven, a director at the London-based firm, adding:

“Yep, it swings wildly, but they might know other people who have bitcoin, and say to themselves, ‘Hey, they’ve done pretty well this year.’ It’s always down to fear of missing out.”

In a report this week, analysts for the Wall Street firm Goldman Sachs ranked information-technology stocks as the best-performing sector year-to-date with a 31 percent return, noting the out-performance versus other asset classes like bonds and gold.

Bitcoin wasn’t mentioned in the report, a reminder that the market remains in its infancy; big Wall Street firms aren’t yet trading digital assets in any significant scale. But year-to-date, bitcoin’s price gains are nearly four times the level of those hottest-of-hot tech stocks.

Many investors first noticed bitcoin in 2017 as prices famously rose more than 20-fold, reaching an all-time high of $20,089 in December of that year. After an abysmal 2018, bitcoin is now 59 percent off that peak, according to Messari, a New York-based provider of data on the crypto markets.

But at the current price, the digital currency is still up more than 10-fold from its level at the start of 2017’s rally.

Store of value

One of the long-term arguments for bitcoin is that, unlike stocks and bonds whose prices are often highly sensitive to the decisions of central banks and governments, the cryptocurrency is independent of sovereign authorities. Instead, it’s governed by fixed policies that are hard-coded into the underlying network, and therefore difficult to change.

Under those rules, the supply of bitcoin is capped at 21 million, so it won’t be prone to inflation like developed-market currencies such as the U.S. dollar, euro and yen might be if their respective central banks resorted to more money-printing as a way of stimulating their economies.

Indeed, President Donald Trump, running for reelection in 2020, has repeatedly called for steeper interest-rate cuts by the Federal Reserve, while accusing China of artificially pushing down the value its currency, the yuan, to get an unfair advantage in international trade.

Many cryptocurrency proponents characterize bitcoin as Gold 2.0 — essentially a newer, technologically improved and more portable form of the precious metal, viewed since ancient times as a reliable store of value.

“Bitcoin is slowly becoming digital gold, but it’s not there yet,” said Qiao Wang, New York-based Messari’s head of product.

No safe haven

For now, though, even professionals in the space acknowledge that bitcoin is highly speculative; many traders are just betting on whether the next series of price ticks will be up or down.

“At the end of the day, bitcoin is still a very speculative asset,” says David Martin, chief investment officer at the cryptocurrency investment firm Blockforce Capital in San Diego. Because of the dramatic price swings in recent years, or even on a daily basis, he says, “it’s not a safe-haven asset.”

Martin noted that prices for bitcoin have declined in recent months, from a 2019 high of about $12,900 on June 26, partly because of waning enthusiasm in the industry over the near-term prospects of a wave of institutional money coming into the market.

Intercontinental Exchange, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, debuted a new bitcoin-futures contract last month that was tailored to meet the needs of institutional investors. Yet volume in the new contracts totaled just $5 million on the week.

Compare that with the $26.5 billion of corporate bonds that changed hands each day in the U.S. market during the third quarter, and it’s clear institutions have yet to meaningfully invest in bitcoin.

Vital signs

Some of bitcoin’s internal gauges, though, reveal a healthy and growing market.

For example, bitcoin’s so-called hash rate, a gauge of processing power, has increased this year to about 90 exahashes per second (an exahash is a quintillion hashes), from about 40 exahashes at the start of the year.

And some industry executives think bitcoin prices might be setting up for a rally. Catalysts could include an escalation of Trump’s trade war with China.

Wang says he took an informal poll among his coworkers, and the average forecast for the year-end 2019 price was $13,252.

“The number is totally within the realm of possibility,” he said.

There are risks, too, of course, such as the prospect of a regulatory clampdown. “Obviously it could go a lot lower,” Wang said.

Wife's accoung is being impersonated!

My wife is being impersonated by an account on Instagram, I posted this a couple of weeks ago and then deleted because I couldn't deal with being attacked as a troll. Her original account is private but then we found someone with 19K followers posting pics of us and our children and soliciting money for a bitcoins scheme. My wife doesn't do bitcoin, she's more of a foreign currency strategist than a crypto person. To simplify, this is her twitter account: https://twitter.com/kathylienfx

It points to her new legit Instagram here:https://www.instagram.com/kathylienofficial/

Notice her last name is Lien, not Lein.

We are dealing with a fake account here:https://www.instagram.com/kathyleinofficial/

This guy used to be called @kl_forex_trading_guide but renamed the account to confuse with my wife's real account.

I was called a troll because he has 22K followers and my wife only has 350-ish but this is her real account.

I just had her apply for verification using her passport, what else can be done to remove an impersonation account?

Thanks!

Rob (Kathy's husband)

Multiple People Accused Of Crypto Scams In The Dominican Republic
The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Dominican Republic is prosecuting seven people who were allegedly involved in scams and money laundering with cryptocurrencies. German Finance Minister Scholz Wants Digital Euro
As of Oct. 3, German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz was advocating the idea of launching a digital Euro coin. Scholz stated that such a digital payment system would be beneficial for Europe and added that they “should not leave the field to China, Russia, the US or any private providers.” However, Mario Draghi, president of the European Central Bank, recently said that stablecoins and cryptocurrency in general are of little value, adding: “Thus far, stablecoins and crypto-assets have had limited implications in these areas and are not designed in ways that make them suitable substitutes for money.”

German Govt: Stablecoins Should Not Become An Alternative To The Euro
The German government announced a desire to prevent stablecoins such as Facebook’s planned Libra coin “as an alternative to the legal tender established” on Oct. 2, adding that: “Banknotes issued by the European Central Bank and national central banks are the only banknotes that are legal tender in the Euro area. From the point of view of the Federal Government, it will be necessary to ensure that “stablecoins” do not establish themselves as an alternative to the legal currency, thereby calling the existing monetary system into question.”

Liechtenstein’s Parliament Unanimously Approves New Blockchain Act
On Oct. 3, the Parliament of Liechtenstein approved the Act on Tokens and Entities Providing Services Based on Trusted Technologies (TVTG), also known as the Blockchain Act, which aims to improve investor protection, combat money laundering and establish clarity. The new law will enter into force on Jan. 1, 2020. The parliament’s announcement claims that this act will make Liechtenstein the first country to have comprehensive regulation of the token economy.

This past week, BTC started a short term recovery from the $7,659 low against the US Dollar. The BTC/USD pair traded above the $7,800 and $8,000 resistance levels. Moreover, there was a break above the $8,200 resistance area. Finally, the price tested the $8,500 resistance area and topped near the $8,539 level. Recently, it started a fresh decline and traded below the $8,400 level.

The price is now following a bearish path below the $8,200 level and is trading well below the 100 simple moving average (4-hours). There was a break below the 50% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $7,659 low to $8,539 high. At the moment, the price is holding the $8,000 support level, with a bearish angle. An immediate support is near $8,000. It coincides with the 61.8% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $7,659 low to $8,539 high.

More importantly, there is a key declining channel forming with resistance near $8,200 on the 4-hours chart of the BTC/USD pair. Bitcoin remains at a risk of more downsides below the $8,000 support area. If it breaks $8,000, it could decline towards the $7,850 support area. Any further downsides might trigger a move towards the $7,500 support area in the near term.

Amazing App no doubt BUT.....

I Start using Tivi 2 weeks ago and is just perfect amazing App no other one can get close to things that this one does it worth the money Kudos to the developer great job, now I dont know if this is the right forum to propose some ideas but here we go:

01.- Channel Search Option with history and auto propose

02.- Could be nice if Info Panel will show also the playlist

03.- Ability to create Folders with favorites Channels

04.- Full configuration Backup /Import / schedule ( playlist & TV Guide urls including and TVI config)

05.- Config Replication or Push between Devices or private NAS or cloud

06.- Multi Screen or PIP

07.- For Multi playlist Machng channels so user can check which source is working or has better Quality

08.- Ability to add more Lic from the app now I see we have 5 lic pack Only option, what about 10-15

09.- Closed caption edit properties (like Text Color, Fixed location etc etc)

10.- Ability to manage the Lic assignment (Remove, Add edit name etc ) and see a list of devices in the about section

11.- This one could be tricky add an option to add URL like https://sport-tv-guide.live/ or https://www.wheresthematch.com/ so we can see which channels will show a match

12.- Ability to add Per channel a EPG link, this one I have no clue if that is posible

13.- Clear Cache and Kill App option within the app

14.- Ability to pay Addons via Paypal or bitcoin via app itself

15.- Add help functionality to explain all options across the app, most options are straightforward but some others aren not like Cache type

Again I strongly believe the App is fantastic I really love it is clear DEV put a lot of effort on it and I also I am not saying new features must be 100% free it will be up to the Dev to decide that but this app has a lot of potential and I believe dev should charge for it like Free, Standard and Pro version as well as get a plan not just for one year but user have options like 1 - 2 or 4

keep the good job
