CHART MONDAY: January kicked PSE in the face... but will Feb be any different? (Feb3)

Happy Chart Monday, Barkada --

The PSE closed down 192 points to 7201 [▼2.6%].

I'm going to be adding some charts to the Chart Monday extravaganza. We already have PSE v ASEAN month/year, and PSE v WORLD MARKETS month/year, but now I want to do PSE v OTHER ASSETS month/year... like gold, oil, bitcoin... if you have any ideas, be sure to send me a note!

Thanks to Jenny who emailed with kind words of support, and welcome to /u/bannerman82 and all the other fresh-faced Barkadans who have recently joined the group! There are a huge number of people who will be receiving their first MB emails this week, so please remember: I want to hear from anyone who has a comment or suggestion on how I could make this newsletter better.

Daily meme

ASEAN Markets | 1 month

While all the exchanges of the ASEAN have been reduced to sad stalactites of value loss, it is notable to see the PSE being the reddest of the red, and it's not even close.

ASEAN Markets | 1 year

The TTM (trailing twelve months) chart is different, but the outcome is very much the same: lots of ASEAN exchanges in the red, but the PSE is down significantly more than most (still not really counting Laos). Our closest comparable in terms of economies in this graph is Vietnam. There is a huge delta between Vietnam's +3% and our -11%.

WORLD Markets | 1 month

We've managed to do worse than even Hong Kong, but our market has had to deal with significant foreign capital outflows, Taal volcano, and now nCoV.

WORLD Markets | 1 year

This remains to be the most brutal chart of them all. P10,000 invested in the PSE over the last year would be worth P8,842 today... whereas that same amount invested in the US would be worth P11,918.
