Don't be fooled... Any press is good Press for GREE - Greenidge FUD on NBC Nightly News (Links)

Posting this because it's relevant to the upcoming week(s). The following articles are Greenidge FUD in respect to the location of the operation next to Seneca Lake and the use of the water source to cool its turbine power generator.

#1 Takeaway here from both articles and news segments is that Greenidge pays a total of $3,000 in power to mine one (1) bitcoin.

Do the math on that margin. Bullish.

(Granted... I know, I know - This does not include overhead.)

In regards to the warm water that is discharged into Seneca Lake: I have no doubt that the plant discharges warm water, and this can and does have an environmental impact. Let's not be dumb here. Utilizing natural resources like geothermal energy for cooling and heating is a common practice for industry across the globe. Yes, it does change the environment if appropriate measures are taken.

Though, I hardly believe that the lake (Which is over 600 feet deep) would rise to the temperature of the hot tub. That's pure FUD. Power plants all over the world use water to cool turbines. Hence, it's pretty evident to me that the plant was discharging this warm water in the past when operating as a coal power plant. Nothing new here.

Also the decryp.co site states "Lake water cools the 8,000 computers used to mine Bitcoin within the gas-fired plant in the bucolic Finger Lakes region of New York." This is factually False.

NBC News states that water is used to cool the turbines. It's clear by the NBC News footage that the miners are fan-cooled, NOT liquid-cooled.

Bitcoin Mining Is Turning New York Lake Into a 'Hot Tub', Say Locals

Bottom Line: The maxim that “Any press is good press” arouses controversy in PR circles. Most PR experts reject the saying as a myth. But research indicates that negative media coverage helps meet business goals – at least in some situations for some products and companies. [Source]
