Okay so, i'm going to start this post off by saying that i am nowhere near calling myself a developer, i'm not a coder or anything, i play videogames so this is a guide to simply get involved in the LN in the easiest way possible for people like myself with zero technical background but still want to dabble with the new technology and test out transacting and stuff.
First Off I will not be able to answer a lot of questions i am only comfortable talking about what i have experienced with (not a lot) so far.
Secondly the first things you will need that i used is an Android Device. You need to download the "Bitcoin Lightning Wallet" ( here is the direct link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lightning.walletapp&hl=en ) Running a LN node or software on the PC or through a terminal can be quite overwhelming and this android app has simplified the entire process down to an easy to use and understand UI and also the ability to scan QR codes on your monitor makes it really handy to make payments
Thirdly you open the app and basically create a new wallet but this wallet is what you need to connect yourself to the LN it is basically your bridge to the LN, you deposit Satoshis into your new wallet on your Android (traditional transaction) from there you can then create channels to "connect" yourself to the LN, I created a channel to one of the biggest nodes out there (one with the most channels connecting to it) for my first ever channel and it required a minimum of 300k Satoshi.
Fourthly by connecting yourself to a major node i found that i have been able to make easy payments with every site i've tested it out on so far so i'm not sure if i will need to open new channels anytime soon, you can only spend as much as you have in the channel and i have not needed more than 300k sat so far.
Lastly, You dont really have to do anything else to my knowledge i have not had any problems with closing the app my funds are still in the channel and live every time i re open the app and make a purchase and nothing bad has happened so far.
Some sites to get involved with the LN would be Reddit as we now have the lntipbot you can fill up with satoshi and tip people.
