RDA Recap - June 17, 2019

Greetings Earthlings! I am the semi-conscious, semi-literate zombie formerly known as SilverKappa. I won't bore you with a lot of faff this week. You know the drill. This is your weekly RDA Recap, and u/Am_I_Devo was a tremendous help - let's dive in.

INTRO

what my eyes do when RDA starts

City Mouth - "Sanity for Summer"

Nash has some fun before bringing up the lights. "Hi Dad. I'm in dark."

Gryph got a new job, at a vet's office, on the track to becoming a vet-tech. Further upside: She can bring Loki to work with her!

Nash, meanwhile, is still dealing with medical stuff. He is getting better, but is still having some issues. "It's working, and it's good."

Crossovery stuff: Linkara's Secret Project, A Voice From the Dark, is released! Also Nash is going to be on Luke Spencer's podcast.

Jessica Jones Season 3: "Spoilers: I have Thoughts."

THE INVISIBLES

Remo Drive - "The Grind"

Engine Summer - "Exit"

Slaughter Beach, Dog - "Good Ones"

Dead Sara - "We Are What You Say"

Nash is working on projects! Kull the Conqueror is on the way, hopefully out before Con Bravo, but Nash had an Idea over the weekend. A computer building thing, aiming for a completely silent (and portable) setup!

SET 1

Isle of Rangoon - Rangoon Riffs: Thunderbolt the Wondercolt

Ben Folds Five - "Army"

The Donnas - "Get Rid of That Girl"

so do my roommates, but they haven't broken the lease yet!

Glove and Boots - The Tooth Fairy

Bad Ronald - "Let's Begin (Shoot the Shit)"

Thus begins a somewhat reluctant floofbreak. He purr.

"Let's talk Jessica Jones. Let's talk the end of an era." The Netflix/Marvel mini-franchise started out fantastic. Their Daredevil was exquisite - very real, very grounded, but still a comic book. They even had the costume there at the tail end. Then came Jessica Jones, another street-level hero, and it made sense to include her - and it was a wonderful adaptation of her original comic. Luke Cage came next, and his first season was pretty good! Then Iron Fist...yeah.

So it's no surprise that Jessica Jones season 3 just does not work. Characters jump the rails, stories are stretched to breaking. Too much focus is put on characters that can't carry the show. And a 'superhero costumes are silly' gag that absolutely doesn't land.

SET 2

Pale Waves - "Television Romance"

Blue Oyster Cult - "Godzilla"

Leningrad Cowboys - "Sweet Home Alabama"

Voices from the Dark, the massive crossover event led by Linkara, is up and live and...already getting hit with spurious Content ID copyright claims. Fuck's sake. FIX YOUR SHIT, YOUTUBE.

WTFIWWY

Not-WTFIWWY: Star Trek Starfleet insignia found on Mars. Nash would like to know who is responsible for this.

In other news, one of the Stranger Things kids - the one who plays Dustin, specifically - is starting up a prank show. The concept: Make people thinkg they've gotten jobs, then Lucy that football right away from Charlie Brown. Jesus fucking Christ.
