why there won’t be as big of a sell off

Everyone is aware what happened on December 17th of 2017 and 2019. And everyone is scared it might happen again.

But, this time around is different for a few reasons

1) Institutional/Professional Investors

This year we have seen a lot more influx of money that will for sure stay in the market. These big chunks of change we seen move into bitcoin recently only provide more stability as these investors are in it for more of a longterm (something the younger crypto generation doesn’t really understand or do well. it’s easy to panic)

The institutional investors also have built a different kind of hype atmosphere compared to 2017 that I believe is less susceptible to crash. I feel like the retail sector still hasn’t noticed bitcoin as much as they did in 2017 mainly do to things like covid, the election, and other major world political events being huge distracters right now and also the combination of the stock markets continued increase. After news of bitcoin breaking 20k I think retail investors are going to pay more attention and that combined with continued institutional hype and investment will keep bitcoin from experiencing another major crash. I do expect there to be a pullback sometime but nothing like 2017

2)Increased adoption and technology

Covid has definitely shifted us to an online world which has had an awesome affect on bitcoin. Now that everyone has been forced to familiarize themselves with the internet and all its ins and outs more people are going to be comfortable with the idea of an online currency. similar to the increase in retail investors in the stockmarekt during the lockdown, i think crypto will be the next craze assuming biden puts the US in a lockdown again, and if not I believe the necessary hype is there for the previously mentioned reasons. On top of the shift in sentiment towards the internet and its uses in general, we have also seen more adoption of crypto to a point where it is easy for anyone to figure out how to get some and there are actually uses for crypto now. the technology is here and ready for wide scale bitcoin adoption. it was not in 2017 and then general public sure as hell was not ready.
