What the crypto industry gets wrong about marketing, and what Algorand can do differently to be more effective.

So this is a post I've been wanting to make for some time since the subject of marketing has been a hot topic in this community as of late.

Over the past couple of years, crypto companies and specifically blockchains have been trying to put on marketing campaigns to get into the public consciousness. Notable examples for Algorand include the Drone Racing League, chess championship, banners as Boston Celtics games, sponsoring that women's soccer team, etc. Other companies have also tried to market at sporting and entertainment events.

Yet all of these have failed and are a waste of money for a single simple reason:

No one outside of the crypto space understands or appreciates what makes one blockchain different from another one.

Not a single person watching the drone racing league, chess championship, basketball or soccer games understands or cares about what makes Algorand different than Bitcoin or Ethereum. Therefore all marketing towards these people is completely useless.

The only people who can understand or appreciate what makes Algorand superior are people already within the crypto space. So if Algorand wants to be more effective we need to market towards other people within the cryptoverse. Sponsor conferences, host panel discussions with other crypto leaders, anything that lets other crypto people know about Algorand.

This is what both the Inc. and Foundation need to focus on moving forward. Stop trying to market to people who aren't your target audience. It's really that simple.
