Dissatisfied with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's claims about Bitcoin's energy consumption, rugby star Russell Okung is campaigning against the event with billboards.
Russell Okung is a successful former football star with 11 seasons, one Super Bowl win and two Pro Bowl titles. Over the past few years, he has become virtually known as a Bitcoin enthusiast, converting half of his salary into BTC and launching a Bitcoin education campaign.
In a debate on the topic between professional athletes and social media today, Okung announced the launch of his "Stick to Space, Elon" campaign, aimed at pushing back SpaceX and Tesla after CEO Elon Musk's statements about Bitcoin and the environment in recent weeks.
The campaign will feature billboards in Miami, Florida starting tomorrow, ahead of the start of the Bitcoin 2021 conference later this week, along with mobile billboards near SpaceX's launch facility in Brownsville, Texas and Tesla's facility in Santa Clara, California.
Each billboard will feature Okung's image along with the message ""Stick to Space, Elon." The two-week campaign will also include an online component. These billboards are intended to provide a gentle reminder to the public that Musk has only been on Bitcoin for a few months and is not an authority in the field.
Okung is one of Bitcoin’s most outspoken athletes, not only converting half of his 2020 base salary reportedly $6.5 million into BTC, but also supporting promotional efforts. for the "Bitcoin race car" to appear at the prestigious Indy 500 race.
