Ren All-In-One Thread

Ren

What is Ren?

Ren is a privacy layer for blockchains, powered by secure Multi-Party Computations (sMPC) and zero-knowledge proofs encompassed in a general purpose virtual machine, RenVM. That is, a virtual machine that allows anyone to perform private computations in a decentralized network without revealing information to anyone.

Ren is an ecosystem for unstoppable privacy that allows for transfer of tokens in zero-knowledge, trustless swaps between blockchains, dark pool trading and many more privacy preserving applications.

What is RenEx?

RenEx is the first decentralized exchange built on Ren, designed to facilitate dark pool functionality and cross-chain trading with atomic swaps and serve as the first useful application of Ren.

What happened to Republic Protocol?

Republic Protocol was rebranded to Ren to reflect the enhancement of the project’s capabilities with the generalization of our privacy technology with RenVM. The original capability of the project is found within Ren’s dark pool functionality alongside the new enhancements and use cases which are only possible with a general purpose privacy virtual machine.

Old posts and discussions can be found on the Republic Protocol Reddit

RenEx

RenEx is the first decentralized exchange built on Ren, designed to facilitate dark pool functionality and cross-chain trading with atomic swaps. RenEx achieves this through utilization of secure multi-party computation supplied by RenVM - to match orders without exposing the price, or volume, of the orders and atomic settlement through the SwapperD wallet integrated into the exchange.

The key purpose for RenEx is to provide an initial use case for building on Ren, allowing us to properly test and validate RenVM with a real world application and bootstrap liquidity. This will ease the process for other parties to build decentralized exchanges on Ren once the functionality is available. Furthermore this will help the number of Darknodes in the network to grow which is important for enabling further use cases for building on Ren and increasing network performance. Future releases will also have zk-settlement available, allowing the entire process of trading on RenEx or any other exchange built on Ren to be completely private.

SwapperD

SwapperD is the atomic swapping tool and wallet built for trustless cross-chain trading on RenEx. SwapperD is integrated directly into RenEx and facilitates all trades to be settled atomically, including allowing Bitcoin and other HTLC based chains to be traded alongside Ethereum based tokens.

Any decentralized exchange or application wishing to add cross-chain capability can utilize SwapperD and should approach the team for further support for integration.

You will be prompted to download SwapperD when using RenEx. Otherwise find the details on Github.

Darknodes

Darknodes are the physical machines that power RenVM, where every machine contributes CPU time for compute power and its disk space for storage. These are that machines that form the P2P decentralized network (not a blockchain) that cooperate to run secret multiparty computations.

It is important to note that programs executing on RenVM are hidden from the Darknodes that run the virtual machine.
