PSA: scammers capitalizing on Russian-Ukraine invasion

Hello to everyone in this sub. A reminder to all to remain vigilant of scams, especially when major world events are occurring. With the current Russian-Ukraine invasion, it is prime time for scammers to come out of the woodwork to try and capitalize on people's generosity and desire to help those in the greatest need.

If someone asks you; especially unsolicited; to send donations towards those in need in Ukraine, proceed with caution. Especially if they are asking for donations through untraceable, or non-refundable means like Bitcoin, Venmo, or other payment processors. There are many people out there making legitimate personal requests for help, but there are unfortunately many others out there hoping to make a quick dollar off the crisis.

There are plenty of legitimate charities out there if you are looking to donate to those in need. While this sub cannot make any recommendations, you should do due diligence in vetting orgs: check domains (scamadviser.com can run a quick and free check of any website you put into it), read through reviews, and look for any documents the charity provides that outlines how they use funds so you can make an informed decision.

This post is not meant to be a political debate, but simply to be a PSA to all about scams that may crop up due to the current political events happening in the world.
